Always use protection, we’re told. Gonorrhea, Syphilis, “The Clap”… they’re all real, and usually quite treatable if caught early. But the biggest, baddest venereal disease has long been HIV, and the debilitating disease it causes, AIDS. Since the 1980s, we’ve been inundated with talk of AIDS and the great threat it poses. But the truth has never been told in mainstream channels, in clear and simple terms: HIV and AIDS are overwhelmingly the province of homosexual men, injectable drug users, and the people who sleep with them.
In America, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates there are just over one million people with HIV. According to the CDC, HIV is at a higher prevalence among homosexual men and intravenous drug users, as compared to heterosexuals. Men who have had sex with men (MSM) within the last five years account for 78% of new male infections, 63% of all new infections, yet MSM are only about 2.0% of the entire population. Once you partition out the HIV rates of the various groups, using data buried in CDC tables, the differences are stark. Below, I’ve presented a series of graphics using the data from Table 17a, page 58, to illustrate the patterns of HIV infection.
Who Is Infected?
This chart illustrates who makes up those infected with HIV – for instance, a quarter of those who are infected with HIV are white men who contracted it from having sex with men. (‘Sober’ is used here to mean that HIV was not contracted through the use of intravenous drugs.) Gay black and Hispanic men are responsible for another 15% and 10% respectively, while intravenous drug users account for another 22%, 5.8 percentage points of whom are men who have sex with men. All told, some 73% of HIV infections are accounted for by men who have sex with men and intravenous drug users, groups that comprise less than 5% of the US population. Even for someone who contracts HIV through heterosexual contact, there’s a good chance she got it from a bisexual man or a needle drug addict. As you may have noticed, a very large proportion of the populace is lumped into that ‘Other’ category. Below is a pie chart of the same groups, except the size of their respective slices indicates their share of the US population as a whole.
How Common Is HIV?
The simple pie charts above don’t demonstrate the prevalence of HIV. I estimated the prevalence of each sub-group, using the CDC data, and these reveal that HIV and AIDS are very rare among straight, drug-free whites and Asians. Hispanic and black straight men are at higher risk, but still vastly below that of homosexual men and intravenous drug users. Comprehensive data on how HIV is being transmitted among heterosexuals is not available in the CDC report. But you can be sure that much of it is occurring because of people sleeping with high risk groups (a woman sleeping with a promiscuous homosexual man, or a man having unprotected anal sex with a heroin addict). Research has consistently shown that even among street hookers, HIV is rare to non-existent so long as the hookers were not using intravenous drugs.
Among men who don’t sleep with men and don’t do intravenous drugs, the prevalence of HIV is about 0.1%, while the comparable figure for gay men is 16%. Below are the rates of infection for various groups, between the ages of 18 and 54, inclusive. As you can see, straight, sober men hardly register; the only straight sober group with a prevalence above 1% are black women. Injectable drug users are represented only in the Injectable Drug Using categories, and not the racial groupings.
How Does The Rate Of Infection Compare Among Groups?
To give you a firmer idea of how the risk compares between groups, I divided the prevalence of HIV among all groups and divided them by the prevalence among sober straight white men. For example, a man who has sex with men is 700 to 800 times more likely to have HIV than a sober straight white man, the reference group. Below are four charts, one for straight men, one for straight women, one for men having sex with men, plus one chart with all of them in a single chart for easy comparison. All racial groups below only pertain to non-IDU users; IDU users of all races are included in the IDU-specific groups. Though not covered here, rates of syphilis are also vastly higher among men who have sex with men, as compared to heterosexuals, a difference of more than 100-fold.
Transmission From Women To Men Via Vaginal Sex Is ‘Inefficient’
A study of sub-Saharan African heterosexual couples where one partner had HIV found that typically only one in 900 acts of unprotected sex would transmit the virus. Stanford School of Medicine’s Dr. Mark Holodniy, when asked how heterosexual men contract HIV, responded “I suspect that some of it relates to whether these men are truly hetero or bisexual, and whether injection drug use is a risk factor.” Provided you are not having sex with men, intravenous drug users, or women who sleep with such people, the risk of getting HIV is infinitesimally small.
Why are these facts kept from the light of day? One can only speculate. Homosexuals are a favorite of the modern left, and these figures would draw scrutiny to their behavior. For instance, why does such a debilitating disease continue to be so rampant among homosexuals? Why is it still spreading, at about 30,000 cases per year among men who have sex with men? Are they really as monogamous as gay marriage advocates would have us believe? On occasion, the media will admit to tiny cracks in the nice narrative of “Homosexuals, Just Like The Rest of Us” – a study covered in the New York Times reveals that 50% of gay marriages are ‘open marriages.’ Incorporating figures like these into our mental image of homosexuals is sure to raise some thorny questions of policy and propriety, a conversation that the left simply does not want. Meanwhile the mainstream right is too cowardly to pose much opposition.

When I was in college, I worked with a few gay men and some of them told me that they lied when donating blood because they didn’t think it was fair for them to be excluded. I was a biochemistry major and I nearly blew a blood vessel trying to explain why the rules existed and that no test is 100% sensitive so it was important to exclude high risk groups. I don’t think my ranting made a dent.
I never donated blood, but I remember they used to hand out a sheet of paper that said you cant donate if you:
A) had anal sex
B) Took intravenous drugs
C) Got a tattoo in last 6 months

As to why the disinformation: It’s more the political left that’s been cowardly. Homosexuals, IV-drug users, and other at-risk groups would be better protected if they knew the facts. There are numerous studies that prove the infection rate of a mother infected with HIV and passed onto the child are around 10%.

Doing some quick statistical analysis shows that there is a large gap unaccounted for. Why is there so many children affected with HIV in Africa ? They are too young to be having sex and even if they were they certainly are not having gay sex or anal sex with other girls.

The HIV/AIDS virus is not exceptionally strong unlike other viruses such as the flu or HSV 1 or 2. For an infection to take, the initial virus load must be very high. The virus will only stay alive for an hour or two outside of a human body and transmission can only take place in mucous membranes or open wounds. Also, the human immune system has shown it is capable of fighting off an initial infection in some circumstances.
A friend of mine who is an infectious disease doctor openly questions if transmission can even occur between an infected female to a male absent extraordinary circumstances. He will say that most men who profess to have been infected through vaginal sex are either clearly lying about never having anal sex (a physical exam of a man’s anus and rectum can easily show this kind of sexual activity) or are injectable drug users (also quite easy to tell from a physical exam). He will also say that the only case of female to male transmission he believes actually occurred without anal sex or needles being involved was with a patient who had open herpes sores at the time he had sex with the woman. Moral of the story for men – stay away from anal sex with men and needles and you have almost no chance of contracting HIV/AIDS.

I am so glad someone finally posted an article and statistics on this. As someone from South Africa who had a number of HIV scares due to unprotected sex or the condom breaking, I can’t tell you how many nights I lay in bed panicking about whether I was going to die or not.
Then one day I just decided to do my homework, and found out (like you state here) that the risk of a heterosexual guy getting HIV from an HIV infected women during normal, vaginal sex is almost impossible (well, something like 1 in 2500). Your lying or just uninformed on how testing works. An antibody test won’t show positive for antibodies 6-8 weeks up to 3 months. So after your last butt bang session your test could have still shown negative. Let me break it down for you. First, let’s establish that in order to contract HIV, the virus must enter your blood stream.
Contracting HIV through contact with the vaginal fluid of an infected woman is extremely anatomically difficult–where is the infected fluid going to to? The urethra, only to be washed out by semen or urine before it ever reaches far enough into the kidneys to encounter blood? And even if it lingers, vaginal fluid contains almost as few HIV particles as snot or saliva–it’s just a bodily mucous. As you might expect, AIDS rates among lesbians–you know, the other homosexuals–are even lower than among straight women.
It’s way easier top contract HIV if you’re on the receiving end of sex, i.e., the woman or the “catcher.” Makes sense, since you’re depositing cum, which contains higher amounts of HIV particles, directly into their body. Still, though, the likelihood of HIV from semen interacting with blood flowing through the woman’s cardiovascular system (not to be confused with endometrial tissue) is low–you’d basically have to tear/cut her vag while banging.

Hello my good friends please do not see this strange cause it my life story about my healing, i was having HIV for good 6yrs. Is there a world wide statistic like that above too ? Would be nice to know, also like to know how high is the real present of gay/bi activity between same sexes but most of all I like to know who has more aids then any other by breaking it also down to which way they got aids, like by oral sex, by anal sex and which way by giving or by getting oral/anal sex and then of course by transmitting it after to same sex or opposite sex partners. Now we would come for sure to a 115% conclusion, don’t you think?

This information is not accurate…..not by far. The gay men numbers are higher because the gay men are honest with doctors and simply go to the doctor more. Heterosexual men do not answer health questions honestly nor do they get tested or go to the doctor as much. There are many more reasons why the numbers are not accurate. But do not ever forget that lfe itself is an STD.

Homosexual males (not Men) are not being honest, otherwise there would not be a high proportion of young MSM being unaware of the infection and therefore passing it on to others.

I work at Southern Arizona Aids Foundation and, tragically, I see young heterosexual lives afflicted with this virus about equal to the gay youth, in large part because they believe that they are not at risk — and/or it’s not big deal. Also, it is true that injectable drug use has the highest rate of transmission above anal sex. But keep in mind that most straight guys badger the hell out of their girlfriend to do anal. Where are the links to the research material you got those charts from? Wikipedia has links to all its references so that you can click on them and see the information firsthand. I am always suspicious of context-less charts that exist in a vacuum because it is so easy to just write everything you want on them and pass them off as legit. No I need you to tell me the names of the reputable medical scientific journals you got those numbers from, because otherwise why should I believe you when its more than likely you’re lying to me just to appear in the right.
I want to have the conversation. I really do. Because you need to learn a few things, sir.
1. The fact that HIV is transmitted via fluids is what protects hetero sexual men, not some immunity due to Godliness. It. is simply a matter of the virus already being prevalent in the gay community, and the ease of transmission through vaginal or anal sex. Once the virus gets into a heterosexual population, it runs rampant among females.
2. This in mind, instead of only looking at US data, since you are talking about a HUMAN issue, why don’t you look at worldwide data? I will not hold your hand, a man of God should be willing to learn befire he judges or bears false witness. You will find that this is only a gay disease in the USA.
3. The reason that the disease is controlled well among US heterosexuals is simple education and prevention. That should suggest to you what the issue with US gay people are. Attitudes and stigmas have placed US gays at the same level of education about sexual diseases and access to adequate prevention tools as a heterosexual in the 3rd world. Nice job there – that was people like you doing that. Hope you feel good about your victory in demonizing gay people.
4. The whole epidemic could be solved had we not defined it as a gay disease years ago, and then quit caring. If young gay men were aware of the prevalence and risks and provided easy, non-hateful forums to ask questions, they would change their behavior. At this point in time, many don’t even care because they are so hated by their families that they commit suicide more often than the 98% of straight people too.
