         28. I think it’s important to differentiate between Arabs and Muslims. As I mentioned before I don’t necessarily have a problem with Muslims per se. In countries like Germany there was been Turkish Muslim communities in the country since the 1960s. They seem to have integrated well and generally get along with the host society. It’s interesting to note that none of the radicalized ISIS fighters appear to ever come from these Muslim communities. This is also similar with Iranian Muslims.
             The issue isn’t one necessarily of religion but of ethnicity. In particular this pertains to north African Arabs who seem to have an incredible resentment towards the west, and the most violent ISIS fighters came from this region or were naturalized French citizens of Algerian extraction. I also think there’s a huge degree of hatred and mistrust between different branches of Islam, which, makes the religious argument a little too simplistic.

             For starters, what you call the fall of the Roman empire was the fall of merely the western half of it. The other half, the part from which Christianity originated and had the most followers in, survived another thousand years before falling to the Muslims in 1453 (but not before having passed its culture, faith, and legacy onto Russia “the Third Rome.”). The city of Rome was reduced to a mere 10k or 20k people (for centuries) while Constantinople had 1 million plus. If not for the Muslims then the Roman empire would probably able to reconquer the depopulated rural west from the Germanic barbarians eventually (a project begun under Justinian). The Arabs can hardly be credited for preserving “Roman and Greek” culture when they were the barbarians who spent a millennia destroying it. The mosques in China look nothing like mosques in other countries and in Middle East.
