Floyd Mayweather Vs Conor McGregor Fight Thread

Via Variety:

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. and UFC champion Conor McGregor will step into the ring for a 12-round super welterweight boxing bout this Saturday and what promises to be an event the likes of which comes around almost as rarely as a total solar eclipse.

The matchup, which will take place at the 20,000 seat T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, has the potential to be one of if not the top-grossing combat sport cards in history. Estimates range from a more conservative $300 million all the way up to $1 billion, factoring in domestic and international pay-per-view (PPV) sales, merchandise, and ticket sales. For those wishing to attend in person, the cheapest tickets currently available on StubHub are going for over $1,200.

“There’s never been an event like it before and there may never be one like it again,” former HBO PPV head Mark Taffet told Variety. “When you look at these type of events, they’re more than just sporting events. They’re true entertainment spectacles. This has all the characteristics of a great spectacle where people can get together in large numbers and watch together like a Super Bowl party.”

Mayweather knows a thing or two about big spectacles, considering he has been part of multiple record-setting pay-per-views in his career. Mayweather helped set new standards in the pay-per-view buys arena with his fights against “Canelo” Álvarez in 2013 (2.2 million buys) and Oscar de la Hoya in 2007 (2.4 million buys). But both of those paled in comparison to Mayweather’s bout with Manny Pacquiao in 2015. When all was said and done, that fight did an astounding 4.6 million buys, generating approximately $400 million in domestic revenue. For his part, McGregor has been part of some of the biggest UFC pay-per-views as well, with his rematch against Nate Diaz at UFC 202 drawing 1.65 million buys in August 2016.

Fans can shell out $99 to watch Saturday’s fight on Showtime PPV in HD, or $89 for standard definition. It will also be on multiple digital platforms, with CBS and UFC making the fight available on their streaming services for the same price as PPV in a major boost for digital viewership of live sporting events.

    1. Big Pimpin’, for sure. I like both these guys; crass money grab or not. At least they aren’t SJW Antifa pussies.

      1. Not to mention, yet again, the populace didn’t learn their lesson. Paying that kind of money for another fight that could be a borefest?

      1. He’s calling Mayweather the coward and McGregor the midget.
Tho McGregor is taller than Mayweather.

  1. more interesting is what happens after the fight.
i think McGregor breaks the UFC monopoly by suing to be recognized under US Federal Law as a boxer … which invalidates the UFC exclusivity contract.

    1. Didn’t think of that. How much you wanna bet Dana White starts dismantling those contracts in lieu of putting up more spectacles like this one. Who knows, maybe there might a possibility of having a female MMA fighter actually fighting a male boxer or MMA fighter? Just like good ole days of UFC, when we watched wrestlers, jujitsu, and sumo wrestlers going at it. Won’t make the $300 million minimum this will make, but it will still draw a crowd nevertheless.

  2. Just watch the try-hards and wannabe’s come out of the woodwork at local pubs and sports bars today. These fights seem to attract the dickheads like flies to shit.

  3. Am I the only person in the world who doesn’t give a single solitary shit about this fight?

      1. If that is true, then your wife is truly a find.
Not many hot girls would be willing to stay in on Saturday night and drink beer / watch television.

        1. BBQ?
You cook that over there in the UK?
I figured it was cheap gin and fish and chips over there…

    1. Too expensive to rent, assuming I had internet or cable, which I don’t since by themselves it’s an extra cost. I could have gone to Twin Peaks to watch it, but too many obnoxious drunk douchesand perhaps a few drunk skanks. Plus I bet there’s cops throwing sobriety checks randomly, which can’t blame them, given the above. So yes, right up there with you buddy.

      1. “Twin Peaks”, huh?
Isn’t that where those two bike gangs had the shootout a few years ago?
Is it a chain or something, like “Hooters”?

        1. That’s the one. Gotta love the metaphor of comparing two mountains that look alike to bewbs. At least the mountains are always firm and majestic on old age. Also, you can ski on them and in between them and they don’t complain. A motorboat if you will.
Not to be a dick towards bikers, but that’s another reason not to hang out there. I don’t care of they give toys to children on Christmas, I don’t hang around 1%ers

    2. Its a giant money making scam, just like the Disney Star Wars movies, and it was just as fake as those.

    1. Apparently Mayweather won in the 10th round. Now I have no idea if he dominated or not, but kudos to McGregor for making it that far.

    2. Mayweather won. McGregor looked alright until the middle of the 3rd round and then he started to show all of his weaknesses. It wasn’t obvious to Floyd until the 5th round, who was still dealing with McGregor’s longer reach and habit of using his raised hand to hide his strikes. The stamina was sorely lacking for McGregor who started to hug a little more than necessary. From the 4th round on, the fight was Mayweather’s to win when he wanted to.

  4. Easy Money for Both, but Mayweather clearly got this, only an idiot would pick Mcgregor or a person who doesn’t know shit about boxing

    1. Getting washed at the amateur level and deciding to practice MMA instead.

    2. Pursuing real careers. Far better odds and you dont get brain damage.
Also, inner city kids have more access to steroids.
Also, sporting scouts get a higher commission on a dumb dude from thr streets, vs. a suburban kid who nrings his lawyer to the first contract submission (thats why the major league goes after guys from latin america. Cheap labor, higher ROI if they become pros. They can sign them at 16 years old too.)

    3. Tyson Fury, Golovkin, Lomachenko, Billy Joe Saunders and Carl Frampton, just to name a few. There’s always some if you look.

  5. Boxing is in trouble if gimmick fights like what we just had becomes the norm.
Perhaps it’s already in deep shit…

    1. Boxing has gone downhill since fighters like Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield left, the best boxers these days are not even Americans. Its become more international. I notice that these days the best heavweight boxers seem built more like NBA Power Forwards rather than a more Olympian physique. The shortest current heavyweight fighter that I can think of is 6-1, which was Evander Holyfield’s size.

  6. Featherweights are not fun to watch. Its just not a big deal knowing the average bouncer could kill either one of these guys in a street brawl

    1. It’s only the heavyweight fights that are worth it and the scene in Rocky 3 between Hulk Hogan and Sylvester Stallone was more interesting and both were fake.
It would be interesting if they allowed Connor to fight like an MMA fighter and Mayweather like a boxer, doing what each does best.

  7. Just watched – as predicted, McGregor quicker and more awkward than some of the doomsayers had it. But no punching power at all with 8 ounce gloves
Mayweather slow, rusty etc … but still too much boxing IQ and snap for McGregor.
Not a terrible fight tbf, but hopefully the end of this crossover bullshit

  8. To anyone who cares to answer….My understanding of this fight is a Mixed martial Artists champion (McGregor) thought he could beat a world champion boxer (Mayweather) at Boxing?!. That would be like Mayweather challenging McGregor (or any MMA champ) to a MMA bout; you know where you can kick, elbow strike, and of course grapple; very likely Mayweather (or any boxer) would lose, unless he got in a lucky punch early on or something. So why did McGregor think that he could beat Mayweather at boxing? Allot of what he knows how to do & is used to doing from MMA he now can’t do; why was he so sure he could win?

        1. The final earnings including purse, gate, endorsements, etc mcgregor walked away closer with 100 mil. Mayweather – who knows maybe 200?
Dana white also took home a light 15-20 from mcgregor as per their contract terms.

      1. She was the best rock em sock em robot ever allowed to fight with Cyborg, or whatever the lady’s name was, from Brazil.

        1. I never really followed her career except all the hype in the press. Cyborg looks scarier. I suppose she could always tried to grapple mayweather to the ground, but McGregor obviously didn’t have that option

        2. Cyborg looks scary because her accent is thick and she’s ugly. Doesn’t mean Mayweather wouldn’t light her up like a Christmas tree if she got too close. Had this been an anything goes kind of fight, the odds would favor McGregor. Even so, Mayweather has no reason to challenge McGregor in MMA because he couldn’t raise his value any more in that field. The MMA purse is not worth it and he would be beaten because he is an amateur at grappling, submissions, etc.

        3. well of course they would never meet, so (in Rousey’s case) there’s no need to restrain the pre-match trash talk , since there can never be a match. I don’t follow MMA but it’s interesting to consider the different outcomes. It’s not unthinkable that one of those girls could get Mayweather on the ground if different rules applied. He’s not big after all. Interestingly Rousey just got married yesterday I believe. Her husband is massive, and physically dominating. You’d think it might be the other way round but it never is

        4. That and is a gassed-up gorilla too. What an ugly mug that she-beast has.

  9. “We’ll have Mayweather win this one, on a 10th-round TKO, just to keep the Black Superman myth alive. Oh, and bring me those 2020 presidential candidate profiles, too.” – Don Corleone

    1. You’re saying the fight was fixed, because of some racist conspiracy?!
      What a retarded faggot!

    1. A MexiGinger if you will. Which is what happens when you throw cinnamon and Jameson in a hot tamale.

  10. LOLOL
    The outcome was decided
even before the fighter were chosen.
    It’s that hard to see?

    1. Yea but as he said “who wouldn’t dance around a ring for $100 mill”.. I’d do
It against mayweather no question and I’ve never boxed a day in my life. If it was Mike Tyson, maybe not.

    2. not when the ref made it clear that he wasn’t going to penalize Floyd for timidity and cowardice.
6 punches thrown? for an entire round? and not only no point deduction, not even a warning?
Floyd rested for the first 3 rounds ( not more than 12 punches in any round, 28 total through the third ). if the ref is going to let Floyd rest for three rounds then he ought to let Conor rest for three rounds.

  11. As a black man. Good thing art didn’t depict life.
    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DINtkHEVoAEQEaK.jpg
    BOXING IS SYMBOLIC
That’s why people hate Floyd Mayweather hate because he’s a black man who’s unbroken. Floyd was one of our last great black champions and it’s good that he had his squad up and stomped the white boy out.
Ever since the advent of MMA, white and other non-black men have become more confident. They feel empowered when they see a non-black man kick a black man’s a.s.s in ANYTHING; especially fighting.
The thought of kicking a black man’s ass and stomping him out in hand-to-hand unarmed combat is their chief motivation of non black people. Because they are looking for any confirmation that they can get that they are, somehow, manlier than what they perceive black men to be.
Floyd Mayweather was a representation of the masculinity of Black Men.
This fight showed that MMA power is very overrated and MMA chins are very weak. Even if they would have let Connor use his 4oz mma gloves, he still couldn’t hurt Floyd.
Floyd did something Conor hadn’t seen before : stalked him down, stalked him, stalked him, stalked him.
He didn’t let Conor get the separation he wanted for his longer punches and counter punches, made him miss, and basically didn’t have to throw for 3 rounds.
Despite being smaller, older, two years away and carrying those brittle hands, literally EVERY punch Mayweather landed snapped Conor’s head back and everyone was saying Floyd punches are not gonna hurt Conor because he’s accustomed to taking shin bones to the face.
Yet every punch Floyd landed snapped Conor’s stupid potato head backwards. Once Floyd turned up the pressure, Conor was out on his feet.
Conor has never heard the ref in a fight say
    “Round 7”
    “Round 8”
    “Round 9”
    “Round 10”
So Floyd simply took the Irish bitch into deep waters and drowned him
