      One, why has Sweden allowed so many Muslim/Middle Eastern immigrants to come over. Swedish politicians know better than that, they know what huge costs integration has. But then came the Yugoslav wars, and hundreds of thousands of Bosnians were granted asylum, and nobody ever repatriated them when the conflict was over.

          1. Iran built up Isis in Iraq to undermine the US in the form of generic sectarian violence. There probably would be no isis without years of priming by them in iraq. However when isis grew it became a problem for Syria, that Iran then had to help contain, lest it end up on their border.
             Russia has always had a long term interest in Syria and alliance with Iran. Russia has always been in the market of doing the opposite of whatever the west wants, in order to gain leverage.
             As long as Assad was stable enough, ISIS represents a great opportunity to ruin the US plans for Iraq and create a western crises between allies.
             It is not unthinkable for both iran and Russia to play both sides, through supplying basic weapons and act as a means for selling energy captured by Isis. The upside is clear, as long as Assad or a pro Assad government is in power, however weak, Iran’s and Russia regional influence increase.
             But now with Iran having the opportunity to remove crippling sanctions, the economic value offsets any regional meddling. Hence the US cuts a deal, and the supply train stops for Isis.
             Russia I am sure was part of the negotiations. They are moving in now to secure Assad and end the supply of weapons. Iran will cut of its support in the south. At the end, Russia has a permanent base in Syria, Iran’s economy is back on track and the US can start to stabilize iraq.

             In other words the best defense that can be made for the US involvement is that it completely fucked up rather than deliberately set these trains of events in motion.              However after the invasion and toppling of Saddam the Iranian government actively trained, supplied and covertly made every effort possible to inflict U.S. Casualties, and increase our cost of occupation. Their main tool was pitting Sunnis against shiites. When the US withdrew active military from Iraq it allowed room for isis like factions to solidify.
             For Syria, this was a failure in US policy. The US was successful in toppling gaddafi using the same playbook previously. In that case the US was able to bring NATO weapons into it and achieve its objectives quickly. Russia was caught flat at the UN. In Syria however Russia had learned it’s lesson and prevented NATO intervention. The whole Red line on chemical weapons was the excuse that never materialised for NATO. The US was caught at that point backing up questionable allies as a matter of convenience.
             There is no doubt that this is ultimately a failure of western policy. For the US getting back to building in iraq and maybe having one victory is better than total loss of control.

             So even the CFR didn’t (and presumably doesn’t) believe Iran wants sectarian war. The cost in US soldiers lives, and sectarian bloodshed was no doubt high for which Iran bears considerable responsibility, but as a Shi-ite power, its opposition to Sunni jihadi groups has never gone beyond wishing to get rid of the US from Iraq. The Islamic state poses a continuing threat to Iran hence its continuing opposition to them, including by propping up Assad.
             What the CFR doesn’t mention of course is the fact that Iran has every reason to be afraid of US policy in respect of Iran. Don’t misunderstand me, Iran has a nasty track record in terms of human rights etc, but that isn’t the reason the US neo-cons decided way back to put Iran on the hitlist, along with Iraq, Syria, Libya etc. – (remember Wesley Clark’s revealing the US military’s plans for regime change in 7 countries.). When you compare the mess in Syria to the clean surgical intervention in Libya it still misses two things: a) the complete illegitimacy of promoting regime change / colour revolutions in the first place (how anyone could justify that policy retrospectively is beyond me) and b) the fact that the ‘clean’ action in Libya still created an almighty mess, that has allowed warlords and jihadis to take over, something that is fuelling the migration crisis the last I heard.
             As you say its a failure of US policy: but while they may well need to get back to ‘stabilising’ Iraw, it cannot be forgotten that it is US / western policy, reflecting most probably pro-Israeli neo-con priorities that is responsible for most of the de-stabilisation in the middle east and therefore for the present crises. 16. Thank you so much for writing this, Mr. Fisher. I have been following the migrant invasion thread over at the Rooshv forum and am extremely grateful for all of the European members who are taking the time to tell those of us in the United States what is really going on over there.
    We all know that the media distorts what is happening in general. We understand this in theory, and it is very maddening when it is on the level of SJWs, false accusations of all sorts, and stupid media campaigns. It is very easy for us to see this as something that is basically unpleasant, but tolerable.
    But this is the destruction of Europe! When I read the thread at the forum, it makes me feel sick inside, and I can only take it in small doses. I can’t believe there is no outcry, and that people are standing by and seemingly happy to watch passively as their countries are overrun.
    I will not pretend to be a scholar or expert in geopolitics. And yet when I read news stories many obvious questions pop into my head:
    How can you send so many refugees into countries where the people already living there are struggling themselves?
    How can you be sure the people coming to the countries are who the claim they are?
    How can people from very different cultures be thrown together under times of stress? How will it work out?
    Or, most obviously, just this: What is the plan here?
    All of these questions and more make me very grateful for your article, and for the fact that you have taken the time to organize very simple facts and present them in a coherent manner.
    Why can’t any journalists out there do the same?
    Do they really think all they have to do is wave a picture of a dead baby at the world and no questions will be asked of them?
    Why do I have to go to a website like Return of King, in a small corner of the internet to find statements like this:

    When I watch that video of the migrants throwing away the food and water at the train station it seems like a scene from a movie or something. Impossible to believe, as you so cogently point out, that refugees would show up and act like unsatisfied customers and soccer hooligans at the same time.
    It is like the world is going nuts before our eyes, and everyone in the mainstream is acting like nothing is happening.

I remember the troubles in your region in the early 90s, and we would hear about things like ethnic cleansing, and because it was before the internet, and the mainstream newspapers seemed to have no real information, we had to rely on cheaply printed pamphlets and papers by individuals, and we felt very helpless because many people wanted to help, but we couldn’t get information we could count on.

42. Last summer on the U.S. southern border there were droves of child “migrants” arriving en masse, seemingly out of nowhere. It’s not like Central America just recently became destitute. Didn’t hear much about a similar phenomenon this year though.
    And now Europe is dealing with a surge of invaders on its borders this summer. As spicynujac pointed out the war in Syria started in 2011 but all of a sudden these war refugees are fleeing in a huge wave. And many of these people trying to cross into the EU (mostly young men) aren’t even from Syria. So what’s prompting this?
    How are these two waves related? There’s no way I’m the first to notice but I haven’t read any speculation on causes yet.
