Why Cortisol Is Making Men Fat, Weak, And Effeminate

The following article was sponsored by Henry Tran

So perhaps this beta-male hormone isn’t entirely new, and it certainly isn’t ONLY associated with your belly fat…. However, it has taken a while for these concepts and ideas to fall more heavily into fitness and health-related discussions.

Today we’re going to talk about Cortisol, and how your gut can actually cause an increase in the production of Cortisol. This leads to a downward, out-of-control spiral into fat-belly beta oblivion. But don’t be too concerned… I’ll tell you how to effectively reduce your Cortisol levels so you can drop the excess fat and get a body that demands respect and submission from every single person you come in contact with.

The “Stress Hormone” = The Belly Fat Hormone

I’m sure you’ve heard about this stress hormone, cortisol, but in case you haven’t and you’re not in the mood to finger bang your google machine… I’ll just tell you:

  • Cortisol is one of our naturally produced hormones
  • It is necessary to survive, and it does some good things like help you deal with allergies
  • However, if Cortisol levels are too high for long periods of time, it can cause muscle wasting, or a loss of muscle mass… Plus some other crappy physiological things.
  • Prolonged stress and sleep deprivation are two major causes of high cortisol

Now that we’ve covered what our Wikipedia warriors probably figured out on their own (and bless you red pill poppers who actually did check the facts), here’s what you need to know. This is the information that’s a little harder to obtain from a quickie internet search, but you’ll see why your stress hormone is also your belly fat hormone, and how it cascades out of your control.

The Fat Cells In Your Gut Are Alive / Belly Fat Produces Cortisol…Which Stores More Belly Fat

I won’t get too nitty gritty with the science details, but numerous studies have noted that Cortisol directly affects fat storage and weight gain in stressed individuals. In fact, it can move fat from storage deposits in other body parts and relocate it to fat cells deep in the abdomen (1, 2), further encouraging your pot belly to protrude.

So if you didn’t think Cortisol sucked enough already, hear this: Cortisol also aids adipocytes (baby fat cells) to grow up into mature fat cells (3).

And while we’re on the road to stomach fat hell… there is also a compound in your belly fat that encourages EVEN MORE cortisol to be produced (3). So how the hell are we ever supposed to catch a break? Given this battle we’re fighting against our own bodies, one can only ascertain this simple truth:

The Most Important Quality of An Alpha

Qualities of an alpha aren’t just in how other people perceive and treat you. But rather, having complete control over a hormonal system that is designed to screw you over is the ultimate form of dominance. It’s a similar concept to being the type of guy that overcomes difficult circumstances or events in life that would tear most people down. The act of not just overcoming, but never giving up…. and coming out successful.

Having the self-discipline, willpower, and self-respect to treat your body like the temple that it is will not only give you more confidence. It will outwardly radiate to people you interact with, bestowing upon you to true essence of an alpha, rather than faking it til you (hopefully) make it.

So – Beer bellies are simply not alpha. Period. Not to mention this excess abdominal fat also suggests that you may have low testosterone, pushing you even deeper into your sad little beta cave.

3 Ways To Beat The Belly Fat Hormone Cycle

If you’re still with me and still plan on vanquishing that beta beer gut, then read closely. Earlier, we established that there are three major causes of this cortisol overproduction: Stress, Sleep deprivation, and excess belly fat. In fact, there is plenty of data that connects sleep-deprivation to belly fat (4).  And I think we can all agree that lack of sleep also encourages more stress.

Are you beginning to feel like your waistline is royally screwed? Fear not. Here are three things you can do to establish dominance over your body’s unconscious hormone signalling:

  • Stop looking at electronic screens 1-2 hours before bedtime – Phones, laptops, even TVs.

Your body may confuse the brightness from the screen with sunshine – and sunshine tells your body’s internal clock that it’s time to be awake(5).

  • Try a day of fasting – not eating a single thing except water and sugar free beverages.

Not only can fasting help regulate your digestion, aid in recovery, and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety (6)… It has been suggested in research that fasting can actually help you sleep better. (7) Let me be clear, though. I don’t recommend this often. There is a point where fasting is dangerous and can lead to more fat storage, but one day out of the week can be beneficial. And lest we forget, not eating for 24 hours BLOWS. It’s probably one of the best parts of my day…. Ranking number two only to taking a #2…. Ha! Okay, maybe that was a shitty joke. Onto the last tip….

  • Use this carefully concocted combination of naturally occurring amino acids, minerals, and herbs to help you get to sleep faster, sleep more deeply, and wake up feeling invigorated, refreshed, and recovered – mentally and physically.

I personally take this every night because research has shown these ingredients promote and encourage better and deeper sleep, improved relaxation, and even help encourage your body to release a hormone that directly opposes Cortisol… And can reverse the negative effects that cortisol has on your body.

Not only am I in it for the mental improvements that result from a good night’s sleep, but I’m not about to settle for a beta beer belly;  you shouldn’t either. Especially when the fix is so simple.

So I’ll leave it up to you. If you want to reach your peak alpha status by finally winning the battle against your belly fat hormone, you have my respect and I’ll raise you this:

  1. Longer fasts can do wonders for your health. I find it’s easiest when you’re already used to a low-carb diet as your body will not experience the typical low sugar symptoms. The longest I’ve fasted was 3 days. The benefits of fasting didn’t really hit me until day 2. I felt like a livewire with boundless energy even though I slept like shit the night before. The hardest part is getting past those first hunger pangs. Once they go away, it’s pretty steady going until the more deep, instinctual hunger pangs come. These are the ones you really need to listen to.

    1. Is this reccommended for people slightly below the normal BMI? I don’t know if my body has enough fat reserves to pull a day of fasting.

      1. If you’re healthy and don’t have any pre-existing issues, I don’t see why not. If you’re nervous about it, start off slow and work your way up. There’s no inherent benefit for fasting for 3 days over, say one day. I just did it to test my willpower and to see what the effects would be.

      2. If you are hyperactive too it could be a thyroid problem. Selenium supplementation and putting cold pressed castor oil on you thyroid for a week can get rid of abnormal overproducing cells.

      3. I don’t know if it would be good for you but remember that:
        · 1lb of fat: +/- 3500 cal
        · Average man estimated daily caloric needs: 2500 cal (for maintaining weight)
As usual these are averages and need further research on your part.

    2. That is going through the alkalosis phase of fasting. Just drinking alkaline water made me go through the same thing for about a week. I called it beast mode.

      1. Most say to eat a light meal with plenty of fruits and veggies. I usually eat a light meal of whatever the hell I want. I would, however, avoid overly processed foods as you’ll feel like garbage.

  2. intermittent fasting also works. Eat all your food in a 4 or 6 hour period. Morning cardio (fasted), weights in the afternoon or evening. 8 or 9 hours of sleep minimum. Burn more calories than you take in.
Had put on a lot of fat at university. Bad diet, little sleep, lots of stress. Decided to hold off on work till I got my health back in order. It does burn off, but takes work, and takes time.

      1. I accidentally started IF at the end of a period of sloth. I’ve now tweaked my diet a bit to time my intake precisely, gone back on the weights & supps (nothin crazy) and its working tremendously.
        Recomp is real.
        And Kratom is for BITCHES!!!!!
(That includes Nykratom or whatever variant this guy tried to make me read an entire sponsored post to find out about.)

        1. From what ive read you havent even depleted you glycogen or food in your stomach until the third day.

        2. I’ll probably try that down the road, but I find it difficult to go a whole day on an empty stomach.

        3. True. Just getting down to 2 meals was hard, I found it was something I had to ease myself into, otherwise I just end up thinking about food all day.

        4. Yes, 1-3 days for liver glycogen.
Like all things science, it gets complicated from there but it’s a good ballpark.

      1. Mr. White: Toby? Toby Wong. Toby Wong? Toby Wong. Toby Chung? Fucking Charlie Chan. I got Madonna’s big dick coming out of my left ear, and Toby the Jap… I don’t know what – comin’ out of my right.

    1. Yup, Mike Chan… now pushing an extraordinarily shitty, overpriced sleep-aid, because getting to bed an hour early really makes those abs pop.
If I wasn’t snorting Kratom on the daily, I’d still be getting scammed by that Asian Tony Little. God bless the Krat.

      1. “A compound that encourages more fat to be produced” so not necessarily produces the cortisol itself but puts off another chemical that can cause more cortisol production.

  3. It’s probably one of the best parts of my day…. Ranking number two only to taking a #2…. Ha! Okay, maybe that was a shitty joke.
    lol
I really like seeing a fasting article here though. I fast once or twice a month; personally, I do dry fasts and don’t drink any water at all.
If I drink, I get hungry and it’s more difficult to go about my day, but with a dry fast, I get through the day without feeling hungry at all. And I don’t get thirsty either, my mouth keeps itself well hydrated and thirst isn’t even an issue.

  4. Ah yes another article which uses a pilot study of 13 participants as a reference…well done you

    1. Well to be fair drug companies have completely gamed to double blind studies so it gets real hard to figure out what is or is not bs.

        1. People experimenting with their own health is ten times better than the nonsense spewed by doctors. Studies are of limited value. High fat works like fiber for eliminating toxins from the liver. How does momentary high blood sugar harm you? Look up osmotic pressure..a change in saltiness of a fish tank will kill a fish just as it can crush your cells. Glycated A1c is a good measure of that pressure because its glucose hammered onto red blood cells from osmotic pressure.

        2. real doctors use science – others pretend to be doctors : see homeopathic medicine, chiropractors, etc
anyways, HBA1c tells you the percentage of glucose or mmol attached to your RBC during the last 2 weeks, it doesn’t measure “momentary” pressure, yeah of course momentary high bp can kill you – it’s called malignant hypertension which is very well known in the scientific field and is not some unknown gem waiting to be discovered.
As for the liver….uhhh the hepatocytes (the cells that make up the liver parenchyma) work to clear toxins, maybe you meant clear cholesterol – which LDLs (low density lipoproteins) do, but HDLs deposit cholesterol into the liver.
But at the end of the day, everyone is different genetically. Most medications work because of the placebo effect. I mean the effect is so strong that it even has effects on the inflammatory markers produced by the body i.e. c-reactive protein. This one size fits all approach is changing, personalised medicine will become more common

        3. Yes science based medicine seems like a good idea, its just not practiced much in the US. And I suspect when one day you actually have some strong direct experience with it, you’ll see the fraud that most people discover. Think of how crazy it is to insist that the right way to do something can only be figured out by studies. Just look at game, men went out and just trying different things and comparing notes, came up with great theories on how to effectively hit on women and get them into bed(plenty of confirmation bias, and placebo effect). Then came studies that confirmed those theories. In Ayurveda and TCM men have been hammering out methodologies for health for over a thousand years. They have the goods, and modern medicine mocks those practices. Its no different than a feminist claiming game doesnt work despite the two hot girls hanging on your arms.
Osmotic pressure is different from blood pressure. You mean 2 months not 2 weeks. Read about enterohepatic circulation to understand why toxins aren’t readily excreted in the feces as they are from the kidneys in urine. This is a major major problem.

      1. Taking too much Kratom actually sends you back to before you took too much Kratom (or does it move the universe forward?).
But since it is impossible to take too much Kratom, this sets up an endless time paradox.
The only sound heard in this state is the sound of one hand clapping.

        1. not true. the constant sound of one hand clapping in this state is not the only sound. If you listen closely you will also hear the sound of millions of tress falling in abandoned forests far from all civilizations.
In a land without space and time there was a man, on a mountain, at noon.

        2. You know the Hadron collider? It would be like using that to create a black hole that actually produces light instead of sucking it in.

      1. Actually we all have it wrong.
As long as Kratom exists – there are no problems, only solutions.

  5. Kratom is the enemy of belly fat. The Zionist/Monsanto/Oil Company Coalition recently got Kratom banned by the FDA in order to promote a nation of fat betas by taking away their Kratom.
All three literally got into a Nixon-esque smoke filled room and plotted this conspiracy. If you don’t believe me, you are a brain-dead moron who just believes everything the MSM/cuckservatives say. If you deny that they literally got into a room and plotted this, you are a closet Clinton supporter or, even worse, an MRA.
Want to hear more pandering to the RoK audience? Go to my blog and buy my book titled: “My Kratom Romance: An Alpha’s Struggle Against the Jews”

    1. You forgot to mention that your book comes with a free anal-dildo, but only if you act right now, operators are standing by.

  6. If I were an Asian half-ling, I would likely not show my face to introduce an article, lol.

    1. What do you have against Asian men brah?
I’m not Asian, but what do you mean by this, for real?

      1. It is a stupid picture to show on a US website.
A white female should be looking at a white male.
In fact, in the US, even if they showed as Asian female, she should be looking at a white male. We built this society, and we deserve the spoils.

        1. I feel that this is the kind of thinking that is a big reason behind why white men are such colossal failures right now.
Some white men built this society. You did not. I did not. No one deserves one fucking thing that they did not earn. We have the tools to be great. But if we put them on the bench and expect a pay day because other people like us have been great then we would be no better than the jigs that want muh benufuts.
I would strongly urge all men to reach down, find their dicks and go and earn their own spoils. Complaining that you shouldn’t have to compete is not masculine. Competing and winning is.

        2. Did you or I invent the automobile, airplane, skyscrapers, etc? No, clearly not. But we do contribute to society in a way that a lot of inner city types do not. I think a more fair breakdown would be Producers v. Parasites. Some black men are middle and upper class and contribute. Most white men work a 9 to 5 in some form or another. Asians, same, etc.
Those who Produce do deserve the spoils and privilege. Fuck the parasites though and their childish demands.

        3. Absolutely right GOJ. No question about it. And I am proud of my contribution and am hostile to ALL people who are parasites. Race doesn’t play a role in that for me. Producers will always deserve spoils.
The people who really annoy me though are the parasites who had producer ancestors who feel that that entitles them to spoils as well. This, imo, is the bottom of the barrel that is shared with the SJW slime along with muhbenefuts

        4. Agree 100%,especially on the parasites. End all great society programs now. Deport the illegals and there will be millions of manual labor positions, many in agriculture. The welfare recipients will then have a choice. Go to Ca. & pick lettuce or starve.

        5. Of asians? What fucking planet do you live on where asians aren’t doing well financially.
Look I won’t argue that we pay way too much money in taxes. And I won’t argue that it goes to support a whole class of lazy shits.
But I don’t see loads of Asian welfare people.
My problem is the thinking that your race in some ways entitles you to anything. It doesn’t. What you do personally is what makes you a man.
And by the way, involuntarily giving money away doesn’t make you a great man and isn’t an accomplishment

        6. On another note, have you been to many non-western countries? I have been to 2, India once and South Korea 4 times. In either of those two countries, you would NEVER see a poster of a female admiring anything but an Indian or a Korean. Those countries, especially Korea, revere their males, and the media builds them up, never tears them down.
It is only White Western nations that tolerate this type of thing.

        7. Yes.the media does a good job of shitting on white males. I get this and don’t disagree with you. But this level of being triggered is fundamentally an effeminate behavior.
Who gives a shit that it’s a chink doing a pull up with a woman staring at him. She is probably a whore any way.
This is the same kind of penny ante shit that feminists go nuts over. I didn’t even notice it until you pointed it out. Don’t be so sensitive and insecure man.

        8. “My problem is the thinking that your race in some ways entitles you to anything.”
          – I do not think it entitles me to anything. I am merely saying that the American media should respect White American men. See my other reply to you. This type of photo would be extremely rare in a non Western country.
“involuntarily giving money away doesn’t make you a great man”
          – Never said it did and never said I thought I was great. See some of my other posts on this site and you will know that is not the case. I am very honest about that. I wish I had the [email protected] to not pay taxes and challenge the legality of it. Despite my RR beliefs, I actually respect Wesley Snipes for doing that.
BTW, I have nothing against Asians.

        9. Look the media is a total fucking shit. I agree. I don’t mind the mid race shit they shove down our throats because I know from experience that if a man maintains frame he can get through to women on a level even deeper than the advertisers find. I am pretty oblivious to stuff like your pointing out only because I have chosen to be above kt

        10. And about non western countries. I have been to India. It was a terrible shit hole.
I’ll take our media over their dysentery any day of the week.

        11. There you have your typical alt right whore. See when SJW get triggered when theres not enough color or it’s not diverse. You just did the exact same thing.

        12. Right so they can support their men all they want. I will take Postmates delivery, Uber and clean water.

        13. My wife the other day “Have you ever considered us going to India?”
Me “No, but if you like that kind of thing, there’s the county sanitation plant right down the road”

        14. Tell me about it.
Many years ago I was complaining to a co-worker (he has 3 kids and his wife does not work) about the 40%. He only paid 15%, and he made more than me. How? Deductions for his wife, kids and mortgage. Meanwhile here I am, living alone in a small apartment, taking NOTHING from society, and I am getting destroyed.

        15. Hello (even though you used somewhat insulting language). A lot. over 40%. I own no property. Not married. No kids. I am an IT consultant and work my a** off. Been doing this for a long time, and been getting destroyed by taxes for a long time. If you ever find yourself in the same situation, do whatever you can to keep as much for yourself.
Regarding your choice of language. Do you understand that one male calling another male the “b” word is nothing more than an imitation of black prison vernacular? In other words, it is emulating the worst of the worst and the lowest of the low. I sunk to your level with the “go ‘f’ yourself” comment, but I now realize that was inappropriate as you are most likely much younger than me and may not know better. Be better than that. Be better than those animals. And keep your earnings from the corrupt fed as best you can!

    2. Absolutely agree. How dare they Asian men try to get attention from white female. Doesn’t it make your blood boil?

  7. Should I also stop drinking beer totally? I only drink on weekends but truly a lot.

    1. Its a waste of time and money, on top of the negative hormonal influences of excessive alcohol consumption. And I would recommend that you start practicing will power, maybe just have 3-4 drinks tops if possible.
If you bust your ass in the gym and sleep well, you’ll have a lower alcohol tolerance anyway. Excessive drinking isn’t at all good. My strategy has been to calm down on the quantity, and enjoy the drink when I choose to drink. I like wine and high shelf stuff, especially good whiskey more than beer now.
I have more fun when I drink now too, better focus in social situations when I drink, I don’t look like a stupid asshole in front of people sometimes (my former problem, not necessarily yours) and no hangovers due to this change up.

      1. whiskey is awesome but will give you a gut unless your drink it straight. Its the coke or other mix that add the calories and a lot of them.

        1. I would never waste a decent whiskey in a mix drink.
You’re right, most don’t consider that sort of thing when they order drinks.

      2. Sodium bicarb or activated charcoal before drinking reduces hangovers 85 percent. I’ve outdrank Russians. Gotta show them a little American superiority.

    2. To me beer is ok except that it is usually made with fluoridated water in the us.

    3. I feel that beer is a bad value.
So to me, I like the taste of scotch. But if I am drinking I am drinking for the effect. The alcohol content of a 6 ounces of scotch versus 6 ounces of beer is just a better trade off for the amount of empty bs calories.

      1. “The alcohol content of a 6 ounces of scotch versus 6 ounces of beer is just a better trade off for the amount of empty bs calories.”
It’s the ethanol itself that holds the calories though. Most of the remaining stuff in beer is water.

        1. Yes…but I just looked it up. 6 ounces of beer and 6 ounces of 86 proof whisky have essentially the same amount of calories….70 That said, 6 ounces of whisky will get you closer to the desired effect of intoxication. If you aren’t trying to get a buzz just drink a glass of water with lemon in it.

        2. I tend to prefer a prolonged, mellow buzz lasting till late in the night rather than an immediate harsh buzz followed by falling asleep. It’s my way of relaxing during the weekend.

        3. hey if it is your thing it is your thing. For me, I would rather order a couple scotches and drink water. But I wouldn’t worry too much either way. If you don’t drink during the week and you are really concerned do what I do.
Rule 1 of drinking on weekends is that we finish a full gallon of water before our first drink of the day
Rule 2 Sat and Sunday must contain at least one hour of cardio if we get drunk….and drunken cardio sucks

        4. I drink a min gallon of water daily and never alcohol before it’s finished. Dehydration is deadly

        5. Maybe you’re in a hot climate. I tend to be aware when I need to re-hydrate so it’s not too much of an issue. It might help preventing a bad hangover though.

        6. Not in a hot climate at all. I think people are generally dehydrated.

      2. Same here. I only drink liqour straight, typically gin. I don’t see the point of drinking sugary Cola drinks that are otherwise used to melt rust off sewer pipes.

        1. Other than Seltzer which I actually really like and ginger ale which I drink when I am ill, I can say I do not believe I have had any soda in at least 10 years.
Have you ever tried Bols gin? Its embossing to ask for but it is delicious

        2. Nah but I’ll have to try it sometime. Tanqueray is typically the gin I can sit and enjoy.

        3. I am a big fan of Tanqueray. Boys Genever is a very old brand and has a very distinct taste that people either love or hate. Always worth a sip to see which you are. I like off beat stuff. My taste in scotch runs to the Peaty single malts of the Islay Islands and my taste in wine is usually south american wines that are very strong and dark red and almost sour

  8. Its kind of nonsense to call cortisol the stress hormome seeing as adrenaline noradrenaline testosterone and thyroid hormomes all spike during stress.

    1. I have thought about this. I am not going to argue because I really don’t know (after reading all sides of this argument) but I will say that it makes some sense because the adrenaline and testosterone and thyroid spikes during stress even the cortisol yes…fine….however, does the stress of, say, paying bills or dealing with some issue at work trigger the kind of test spike that, ya know, running for your life from a sabertooth tiger does.
There is a lot of shit going on in us that is millions or even billions of years old. The stresses of the last 100 years just aren’t accounted for in a body that evolved over millions of years.

      1. The only difference is the degree and duration. To me the best proxy for it is checking heart rate. The thyroid hormones seem to be the oldest clocking in at around 700 million yo. T3 and T2 even work in insects who dont have them.

  9. I always assume a fitness article on here is written by Larson Helleck, but very quickly I realised “HEY! You’re not Larson, you’re a cunt!”

    1. He’s visiting Biggus Dickus and won’t return until next week.

  10. Run fast. Lift heavy things. Fuck regularly (Not to be confused with making love) & Eat whatever food in it’s most basic form.

    1. Was going to post basically say the same thing, then read your post below my pre-post.

      Exercise.
Magnesium (cuts stress and almost everybody is highly deficient of it)
      Eat well

        1. Green veggies, almonds and in small quantities in meat. but it won’t hut to supplemet it directly with Magnesium chloride diluted in water, and I mean almost homeopathic levels of dilution, just add water until it tastes like salty coconut water. For some reason they told me to use only glass jars and wooden spoons to mix it, no plastic, no metal, I don’t know why, perhaps it’s not important, but better safe then sorry, anyway google about it before doing anything.

  11. “…..pushing you even deeper into your sad little beta cave.”
    o dear god.
Midriff fat-fukkism has plagued me all my days.
I’m not dead yet, though. I MUST prevail!

  12. I read about kratom. I think it would be best to read about any side effects in any dose and/or with other substances.

  13. The hormonal system is not designed to screw us over. Please. Stress used to equal eminent threat, or starvation. The body adapts to this by storing reserves for starvation, and by using adrenaline for a fight/flight response.

  14.
