A fellow commenter on ROK requested I write an article for younger guys heading into the corporate world. My gut says to tell you “Don’t do it!”, but I realize not everyone is an entrepreneur. There is still safety, security and money to be made in corporate America, but you have to play the game and conform to corporate culture. With rare exceptions, innovation, creativity and thinking outside the box are stifled, not rewarded.
I’ve worked for corporations from utilities to manufacturing since 1981. It has paid the bills well. If you can handle politics and diplomacy, you’ll probably do fine. If you are careless, arrogant or even highly principled expect trouble. Here are some lessons I’ve learned over the years.
One “Awww-shit!” wipes out all your “Attaboys”
The great job you did yesterday doesn’t matter if you screw up royally. You are only as good as you are for the day and no one is indispensable. Working in a corporation is like putting your finger in a bucket of water. Pull it out. See if it leaves a hole.
You are there primarily to generate profit or to support the people who do. They are not your family; you are a “human resource.” Don’t forget that. If you get sick or injured they will forget about you like a broken toy and replace you. You are also there to make your superiors look good. What you do reflects on the people that hired you, so be punctual, conscientious and knowledgeable. On the other hand, don’t do such a good job that you are perceived as a threat by your boss.
Don’t get your honey where you get your money
Live by it. There are attractive women in most corporate facilities. If you are remotely attractive, they will flirt with you. You will want to flirt back if you are a normal male. If you aren’t careful, things may escalate and you will find yourself in a relationship that will probably end up in the toilet within six months. Then you have to look at each other every day. It will be uncomfortable.
I have seen work place love affairs end careers; in one case even a senior executive’s. Be polite to the ladies, be nice, but remain aloof and stay out of office romances. This warning also applies to keeping HR off your back for sexual harassment charges. I don’t care how horny you are or how hot the girls are, leave your love life at the door. It will save you a lot of trouble.
Beware of CLM: Career Limiting Mouth
I had a chronic disease as a young man: Career Limiting Mouth. When someone came up with a stupid idea, I couldn’t shut up. I’d point it out and it didn’t matter that I was right. What mattered was that I alienated people. That will be reflected in your performance reviews, no matter how good a job you do otherwise.
You have two ears and one mouth. Use them accordingly; listen twice as much as you talk. You will learn a lot from the folks who know what they’re doing. You will also learn a lot about those folks who are doing things they shouldn’t. Simply do what your supervisor tells you no matter how stupid it seems (unless it’s illegal or dangerous). Just be sure to document it. If it blows up, go back to your supervisor, explain what happened and ask, “Now what do you want me to do?”
Write everything down
Keep a notebook or journal. If you must keep an e-log, then back it up to your personal flash drive. The same with emails. Whatever you’re told to do or see going on that is questionable, document it! Include times, dates, names and places.
Journal entries reign supreme, because you’re not relying on memory. If you’re Machiavellian this can be a handy tool for future “leverage.” It is also a very useful self-defense weapon, especially if you become a whistle blower.
If you want a peaceful mediocre existence in a big corporation to get your “thirty” in and retire, don’t be a whistle blower. If you have principles, balls and don’t mind getting fired for doing what’s right, then be sure to write everything down. Trust me on this.
Your skill set is very important
Some trades and disciplines are quite rare and valuable. Try to find a niche. For example, there are a lot of IT folks on the market so competition for jobs is fierce. But if you can write code and administer networks, you can easily learn to work with Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI).
Automation skills are always in high demand in heavy industry and manufacturing. My niche is instrumentation and control systems. There are numerous jobs and never enough techs to fill them. Field service work pays good money and you get to travel as much as (or more than) you want. Plus you’ll have more autonomy than the standard corporate drone.
If you’d like to cruise along doing minimal work, find a job at a utility. They pay you to be on hot standby a lot, because when things are running and nothing’s broken, you can’t touch anything. You will work outages and maintenance shutdowns periodically which can be hectic. But you’ll get plenty of overtime and the money’s good. With big utilities, once you’re in the door, the bar is so “high” if you pick up your feet you won’t trip over it.
If you are in a skilled craft, your supervisor may ask you to do a “government project” from time to time. For instance, I recently had a request to make a crossover cable so a supervisor could transfer data on a couple of his home computers. Don’t balk, just do it. You’re getting paid and it goes a long way when you need a favor in the future.
Do yourself a favor: Conform!
If you must get tattoos, keep them where you can cover them in normal attire (including short sleeves). If you show up for an interview with full sleeve and neck tattoos, a steel pimple in your eyebrow and ear gauges, the hiring manager probably won’t be impressed.
It’s all about conformity in corporate America. If you “stand out” you won’t get in the door. If you’re already in and to go non-conformist think of yourself as that nail sticking up out of the back deck. You will get pounded down. If you won’t stay down, you’ll get pulled and replaced. Hygiene and appearance are very important. Always be neat, clean and well dressed even if you’re in a craft.
Be nice to everyone you meet from the janitor to the CEO. Having a reputation as a nice guy is an asset. Always remember that the toes you step on today may be attached to the ass you have to kiss tomorrow.

“..don’t do such a good job that you are perceived as a threat by your Boss.”
Especially if your Boss is a woman (I found out the hard way.) Also learn how to diplomatically say “no.” When management finds out they have a competent employee on the payroll, they will start coming directly to you instead of your Boss.
“Having a reputation as a nice guy is an asset.”
I would have phrased a bit different. Be pleasant and approachable to everyone while remaing aloof. Being a “nice guy” can also be perceived as a fool to be taken advantage of in some (office) cultures.
PS – Congrats Boothe!
Good distinction about being the ‘nice guy’. A thin line between solid guy and doormat
Thanks John. Yeah I knew I might catch some flak for using “nice guy” but there is a word limit and I figured we could hash it out in the comments. IOW, be nice, polite, courteous & helpful, but never be a doormat. One of the hardest things for me was learning how to firmly say NO.
“One of the hardest things for me was learning how to firmly say NO.”
Same. However I found that people later respect you more as you demonstrated that you recognize that your time is limited and you are able to prioritize. If you cannot say “no,” then you will eventually end up dissappointing everyone (and everyone will claim their issue has priority).
In short, check your honor and dignity out the door before you enter office. You are not a human being but a mindless drone whose only purpose is to obey orders.
I understand that self-employment is not possible for everybody, but damn, that is soul draining hell, right there. I thank my father everyday for making me enter sports instead of turning myself into a wageslave.
Are you a college coach or something?
I’m a chess player. I can’t say anymore without risking my identity.
No wonder you are so meticulous with your word usage! I’m a game player but honestly, I merely like games that employ strategies where I have specific moves that work around me outplaying and outthinking my opponent. Don’t play chess currently but loved it when I did.
beware of concussions…
Bobby? Is that you Bobby?
full contact chess! only on SpikeTV!!
I will very likely delete this account if I become famous. Wouldn’t want the leftists to associate me to a pro-rape, white supremacist website now, would we? LOL!
I would be the most confused non-white guy on earth!
Guess I need to rename myself GhostOfFischer!
Fischerman!
thats awesome. a friend wants to play poker to make cash once he retires. He figures he can net 60-70k playing smart and part-time. Not big cash, but he’ll have a pension
You should contact lolknee offline, he’s a chess aficionado.
Well, looks like I revealed too much already!
just dont tell him you have AIDS
I am an officianado for sure, I get the sense talking to @disqus_BoQZLLzisE:disqus that I would be out classed by a number of degrees. I don’t think chess is a mere avocation for him. COuld be wrong, that’s the sense I get.
Don’t have to tell me. I can look a person in the eye and immediately know if they have AIDS. Just part of my situational awareness.
Give a man a Fischer and he will Queen’s Gambit for a day, teach a man to Fischer and he will Ruy Lopez an entire life
(I do believe that is the best chess joke I’ve ever made)
Chess boxing is a legit sport in Germany. Google it. You can watch whole matches. 3 minutes of chess, then 3 minutes of boxing, back and forth until either KO or Checkmate.
I thought it was an old Wutang Clan jam
You a psychic or something? You’re right, I’m a professional.
I get that sense from some of our exchanges. I would say that I am a good amateur player. By the standards of great amateur players not so much and even by the standard of bad pros I probably seem pretty shitty lol
You’d probably do alright against the women’s pro circuit…
In anything Taignobias…in anything.
People here say physiognomy is real and I was thinking about this. If being a good-for-nothing, basement dwelling, fat loser manifests on the face, is it possible to reverse it?
In other words, is it possible to make this guy
http://c0.nrostatic.com/sites/default/files/uploaded/obama-pajama-boy-white-house-r.jpg
more masculine?
I think this faeg lives across the street from me.
Get out of Canada, man!
The damage he’s done will never be fully undone (some of it is related to testosterone at certain stages of development), but he can be salvaged.
Drop him in the military and he’ll get that ineffable hardness most military guys seem to get (even the more effeminate-looking can improve this way). Beating the crap out of him until he starts fighting back will have a similar effect.
Get him lifting weights and he’ll bulk up, which will help reduce the baby-fat look. He’ll also start looking less like a smug prick when he fails to measure up to his own records a few times.
Ditch the soy lattes today, and he might be able to produce testosterone.
My answer is just my gut thought and not something I have really spent a lot of time or contemplated a long amount of time, but I would say “no but” I think think you can turn the basement dwelling loser or this hipster fag into something more than he already is. I think they are, baring something truly exceptional, totally lost causes. However, the but is that I do not believe these were predetermined destinies. While I think that if you are a total worthless fucking loser or a hipster fag by the time you are 25 the chance to ever make any meaningful change is almost zero, I do think that it didn’t have to be that way and you could have been better.
Fair point. I don’t believe that anything is fixed and cannot be changed, unlike some people here. This guy is a fag, but deep inside I think he can change himself provided he makes a dedicated and concerted effort.
While that may be so what happens with guys like this is that they see themselves as superior so the massive effort and dedication that change takes is counter indicated by their world view. The first step is that they need something to make them want to change. This has to be totally fucking life destroying. If that happens then they need to actually survive it. If that happens they need to correctly diagnose themselves as the problem rather than blaming everyone else. If that happens, and it rarely does, then they need to realize there needs to be change. If that happens they have to focus on changing for the better rather than making changes for the worse (escapism, MGTOW and other weaknesses) THEN they can begin the process of making a concerted effort which may or may not be successful. So I will say that it is not impossible but incredibly unlikely.
Hard to respect a man who wears PJs; even harder to respect a man who weres PJs with feet on em
‘Too late’ is a real thing. If the foundation is fukked up, there’s very little you can to do what’s on top of it.
Sometimes the foundation really needs a man with a sledge to break off the bad parts and install a working replacement. Some men need a few dozen beatings before they can straighten themselves out.
Right, and you have to tear the structure to pieces to make this kind of repair.
It’s something I’ve observed. People really love the concept of limitations as it is an excellent excuse to abdicate responsibility. For example, a guy with an IQ of 70 will pretty much resign himself to manual labor. But I don’t care for such stuff. I couldn’t care less if my IQ were 70 or 160, I will improve my life in every way I can think of. Any supposed limitation I may have will not even register to my consciousness.
That’s because you seem capable of recognizing your own fallibility. Lolknees point is that these people have spent their lives thinking that they are perfect and above everybody else that they may not ever be able to develop the ability to acknowledge their own weakness. Or such as I understood him anyway.
The larger problem is the psychological one, not the actually physical or mental limitations which I do believe can be over come in most cases. Freud talks about reaction formation and I think he is spot on with it. In a very condensed nutshell, reaction formation is when one forms an extreme counter opposite reaction to compensate for the fact that if they had to actually face the truth of their situation it would annihilate their psyche.
The classic example that is given is in closet homosexuals who wind up being incredibly hostile towards gays because their own homosexual tendencies are so abhorrent to their mind that their formed reaction has to over compensate to the point where they really want to just kill people for being gay. Another example would be like people who live in Long Island. They have this insistence that anything and everything from long island is just the best (cf Billy Joel) because if they had to come to grips with the immensity of shittiness that long island actually is it would crush them that they live there.
In our case with the hipster fag or the basement dweller, truly looking at what you are would be psychologically devastating and so the defense is created not just that it is ok, not just that it is superior but that everything else is massively inferior. As long as the basement dweller or hipster fag has a formed reaction where it is pathetic and contemptible to be anything other than what they are they will never sow the seeds of wanting to change and huge, life altering events (losing everything in a divorce, seeing horrors of war, nearly being killed by a mad man etc) are the only things that can get through such strong psychological defenses. This would mean that our basement dweller or hipster fag needs to literally (hitler) hit total rock bottom and survive before they will even be able to understand that there is a problem let alone have the desire to change it.
That makes a lot of sense. This seems to be the problem plaguing most people, not just liberals.
It’s a very common issue, one that I’ve struggled with myself the majority of my life(and in some ways still do). Like lolknee said above, you really need to hit rock buttom or get slapped in the face literally in to actually get shit done.
Yes indeed
Best example of this was that closet faggot, and I mean faggot, who went on a murder rampage in an Orlando gay establishment. It was later to be found out he was dipping his dipstick into other compartments while he was married to a woman with a child.
We had a consultant come in to one place I worked to find out what was wrong with our morale. I got to be pretty good friends with him. He explained that everyone resists change and to cause anyone to make major changes in their life usually requires an SEE or Significant Emotional Event. Seeing someone die, financial ruin, having a gun pointed at their head, etc. I firmly believe what you describe is true.
You have to make of it what you will. The best thing, if you can swing it, is to work for a soulless big corporation but also get yourself into a telecommute type position. That’s what I’ve done for years now, and it is *fucking epic*. No office politics, no gossip, no HR bullshit, just you sitting at home getting shit done while wearing shorts and a t-shirt listening to oldies on the radio. Highly recommended.
I’ll take your word for it, because I have no idea how a job system even works. My father suffered greatly as an employee, so he brought me up to never work under someone.
It’s exactly like being self employed, except without having to worry about any of the issues of being self employed. I work, shit gets done, and money gets deposited into my bank account. I don’t physically interact with a single corporate drone, and on beautiful days I can do my work on the deck outside. The best way to work, ever invented.
Is your work related to programming?
Yep. I do C#.NET, C++ and Java programming. I have almost no ability to interact with my professional peer group, because they’re all introverts, flabby and nerdy. So working from home is just peachy.
I run a tech company in the UK considered *extremely* geeky, and can count the number of Masculine, ‘Alpha’, or ‘built’ guys in tech on the fingers of zero hands (myself excluded)…
I worked for an airline once many years ago, and we had three “blue collar” programmer guys, myself included, and the rest were exactly what you picture with the stereotype of programmers. The girls on the 2nd floor would always put us three “on call” specifically to come help them with “computer problems”. I mean we were freaking C++ programmers and we’d be called to do help desk level stuff by hot 20 something chicks. Which, really, was pretty cool.
Yup! seen it…
in fact it’s even more mind-blowing when you violate their conception of what a ‘computer guy’ is like!
Its fun to fuk up peoples stereotypes.
’tis an ill wind that blows no minds!
A note on this for us younger guys: always have a backup plan when telecommuting. I lost my job a little while ago because I was good at it (and, thus, finished a project just in time for a round of downsizing) and not “fully integrated into the corporate environment” or something.
Not a huge deal – I’m working contracts and have a few buyers lined up for my talent. But I’d be a bit happier financially if I’d kept a few plates spinning on the side.
Given my profession, and that I’m a native born citizen and can speak English perfectly, and that I live in Whitetopia, if I’m laid off in five minutes from now, I can have calls and interviews set up by EOB today. Since I only really have 4-5 more years that I plan to work before I retire (way early), everything is smooth and clear.
Wise advice. Hope you find something better!
Good on ya! I’ve got all that, but the corridor I live in all had bad quarters, apparently. Fortunately, I’m discovering that a lot of people out there don’t really give a damn where I live if I can get the job done.
Just to throw it out there, if you’re ever looking for an overseas full-stack dev or firmware developer, you know where I live 🙂
I’ve cut the gym a bit too often this past year, but I was still perhaps the strongest guy in the office. There were a few runners and bicyclists, but they were obsessed with modern brainwashing television and generally pretty pathetic. Every one of them had some variant on cuckface (or backpfeifengesicht, for the German readers).
Can you be more specific with what you develop? without hopefully completely giving my identity away my company works entirely with Open Source software…
I generally find IT irredeemably leftist, as you say ‘brainwashed’, and completely fallen inline with the female imperative (ironic since most women won’t give a second, or even first, glance to most IT guys). In fact I’m starting to wonder if this explains how technology is almost completely aligned with the feminine imperative today?!
I worked on developing C-based firmware for industrial servers (the million-plus dollar ones). A lot of my projects revolved around building security into the platform using TPM, SSL, and similar technologies. I’ve also got some embedded experience and have built websites on a number of platforms (for the record, LAMP with PHP is my jam).
I think a lot of the IT brainwashing has to do with the sort of people who become IT. Most of us are pretty unsocial by nature (introverted, but without learning to adopt elements of extroversion to balance). That tends to mean we’re focused on what we do when we’re working, and when we’re alone we do things one can enjoy alone (TV is a popular favorite).
It only takes one extroverted SJW to stir up a mess of trouble in an environment like that.
Seem to be so many programmer/athletic types here…
Ive been in the c#.net for about 14 years
The introversion is real. I literally cannot, outside of work topics, even begin to get these types to talk to me when I communicate with them. Office “parties” are highly uncomfortable, because I’m the only one who will walk around and talk, while they all mingle in groups of 2-3 whispering about the latest API.
We should definitely get in touch offline. We only work with big stuff (Government and Big Corporate) and you have skill overlaps… Question is how? Do you have a ‘safe’ burner account? (I haven’t set one up yet, this is the first time a fellow RoK-er I don’t already know has suggested contact).
Still better than my office parties. It was just about always work topics or silence at those things. The younger guys would usually sit around (for some, around their chairs) and talk about some show or YouTube reveal, but I just can’t get into that.
I’ve a theory on that. Having actually seen some guys here in real life/offline, my take is that most of us are part of a subliminal “Apollo Project” (not the moon landing) where we’ve developed ourselves both mentally and physically and more or less have striven most of our lives to achieve a really high ideal of masculinity. Just a hypothesis of course, but it sure as hell is what I’ve done most of my life.
It makes sense. Different aspects of maximizing ones SMV. Athletic pursuits address the physical self, and IT/programming/computery stuff is a good way to get one’s financial house in order.
ALSO, both things rely on pragmatism, logic, discipline and hard work. Neither can be faked, negotiated, begged, or stolen.
It’s weird, true. I just set up a burner at mail.com (one of Roosh’s recommendations from way back).
mailto:[email protected]
will email later…
You a developer? Nice to meet you, tribesman!
It needn’t be that way. Granted you lose the pride of ownership, but the Work is still your own, only without the distraction of having to find people to pay you to do it.
I dig wage slavery. I’ve no mind for running a business but I have skills and a work ethic for which companies will pay nicely. I get a decent paycheck, a flexible schedule, and at-will employment. I can negotiate a better deal at any time with a different company and if something goes south, I can walk away scot free.
Are you a consultant? That’s the only job I can think of that fits the description.
That’s the way to be! I’m pushing sixty and still receive solicitations for jobs regularly. I have acquaintances in my field that are still traveling in field service well into their seventies and being paid handsomely.
I see people retire and watch them quickly decline both mentally and physically. It seems the healthiest thing to do is work as long as you can.
I think just staying busy and social does well, not necessarily working. My father has been retired nigh on 10 years and spends his time golfing, shooting trap, riding his motorcycle across the nation, etc. and he’s doing fantastic.
I think there are only a small subset of people who are motivated enough to get out and stay active without the impetus of work. Good for your father for being one of them.
He’s very extroverted and generally happy go lucky, his personality is where I get mine. He spends so much time with male friends just out doing every kind of thing under the sun that it’s hard for me to believe he’s going quickly on 70.
The man you describe is basically my father too!!!!
We am brothers!!!
Given his rather…fun….ways when he was younger, you may well be technically correct. Heh.
Remember now I once told you my father hung with that certain group you have connections with, so…..
yes and no. ‘work’ and ‘job’ needn’t be the same thing. Lots of people dive balls-deep into other, more satisfying ‘work’ after retiring from their ‘jobs’
It’s true. If you have a hobby you can make into a part time gig after you retire you’re in a sweet spot. It’s having something to get out of bed for that seems to make a difference.
any reason to repost this!
As an employee of Bank of America, I cannot stress the importance of this article enough to those of you who grind in the Corporate life. I have one more addition, however.
7. Keep all Political comments and statements to yourself.
In order to viewed in a positive light by the media, corporations are plagued with progressive values. Along with those values come progressive hirees (mainly women and non-caucasians). Despite the shareholders and executives being dominatingly white males, corporations hide this by promoting progressive “values.” Do yourself a huge favor; don’t get in a political debate with a black female.
I have found that it doesn’t matter (especially if you are a white male). You may not talk politics, but if you are remaining silent during the 2-minute “Trump-Republican-nazi-racist…” hate rants–they figure it out.
Just smile and wish them luck.
THAT’s where I’m at. As the sole non-SJW I’ve felt the crosshairs on my neck since the damned election…
The SJWs are in *that* position at my company – I’m well known to be pro-Trump, pro-Brexit, ‘alt-right’, red pill… quite a dilemma for them, bless…
I’m actually on the top rung of the hierarchy (small firm), so no guff from the plebes. My peers are actually intelligent and decent men and even the one who seems to have a problem remains professional, so it’s fine, but thats how it should be (used to be).
When Bush was elected in 2000 and it became apparent to my European colleagues I wasn’t bemoaning that fact, it was amusing. When he won re-election in 2004, it was a surreal watching the meltdown– from the bar room to the board room.
All those years of standing in welfare lines have taught the she-boons how to use the system…
Right – once that head starts going side to side you’re DONE.
This sounds like 100% legit advice across the board. I cannot critique one thing on it. Well done, sir.
So much this. The problem is that women have unrestricted reign in the corporate world and they WILL get very sexual with you without any fear of reprisals. I worked for a company where the boss gossiped with other women, many other women, about me in a sexual way. It was so bad that it got to the point where we’d have company outings and if the boss didn’t show up the other girls would call/text her to “come over to XYZ bar, Ghost has his shirt off!” and they’d all laugh and wink at me and twirl their hair and other bullshit that I as a man could NEVER get by with, without losing my job. While normally I would be flattered it really was extreme and over the top on all of their part and they knew…KNEW….that there was nothing I could say or do to stop them. Fucking bitches man.
I learned the hard way. Never sleep with the hottest woman in the office. All the women hate her, and all the men will hate you once the word gets out. No fun being the office scuttlebutt
Oh, I’d never do that. I just felt like the office involuntary male stripper. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not bitching so much as noting the vast differences in how men and women can act under the supposedly same set of rules.
We had an office party where we were supposed to come in, in costume. I wore my entire kilt with regalia do-dad and women were openly whistling at me when I’d walk by and then giggling. I do that to some corporate broad, and no matter the situation, I’d be called on the carpet post haste.
I know you wouldnt, but I was young and dumb. I was ignoring her bc she flirted with everyone, and she of course had to find out why I didnt give her the time of day
Some of the talk from some of the women in my office would make a hooker blush. Having had business law in college and seeing some of the case studies of sexual harassment, I don’t compliment any women on their appearance int he work place. “You changed your hair, it looks nice” is about the limit. The women however, tell jokes about dildos, and openly gawk and make lewd comments about the firemen that come in periodically.
If you keep it in fantasy mode it lasts forever with no fallout.
hard to resist when a 9 comes onto you. First and only time it ever happened to me at work(a 9 hitting on me)
Dude, I refuse to live a life without fallout.
http://gearnuke.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/fallout-4-1-11.jpg
https://i.imgflip.com/1rl6qg.jpg
I really don’t game much, especially in summer, but man, Fallout is MY franchise. Love that shit.
I’ve taken an interest in cyberpunk recently. Plenty of conspiracy and socio-political commentary.
Can’t wait for Cyberpunk 2077 to come out. It’s made by CD Projeckt Red.
I liked how cyberpunk and steampunk kind of mingled in the 90’s. Steampunk always (and still does) fascinates me in a weird way, although I’d never do the “let me dress up like that” thing because, hey, “nerdy”. But some of their stuff looks really epic cool.
Steampunk is an interesting aesthetic, because it at least superficially acknowledges how things might physicality work.
I appreciate that they gave Patrick Stewart’s character a billowy head of hair.
Yep. And while some of it was goofy, there are some actually interesting ideas that *could* work, had we not started using electricity.
You know, Mickey left Minnie because she was fucking Goofy
she liked it doggie style

My respect for you went up now that I know you like the Fallout series.
Mine didn’t, but to be fair it’s hard to go up from “programming biker guru” in my estimation.
I was on that game from day 1, literally. It just meshed so well with the world we GenX types were told we were going to inhabit after Russia and the U.S. destroyed each other, that it just clicked perfectly.
I is scientistic!
That does sound weird when I read it. Huh.
Fallout and Elder Scrolls, man. Modded to the gills
You know, I was thinking of a comment when it struck me: we need a DOOM 2016-style remake of the old Jedi Knight games.
KOTR?
DOOM’s soundtrack is epic!
I honestly think those are fine as-is. Sure, the graphics could use an overhaul, but the story is still solid and the gameplay can’t really be changed without fundamentally changing the games.
(I just replayed through them, so I’ve had them on the brain)
I wish they would make KOTR 3 or update the graphics/animations for the first two. Or both
Did you ever play Republic Commando? I thought it was pretty good
Disney declared them part of the massive non-canon SW universe, so I doubt we’ll ever see KOTOR 3. It’s just as well – BioWare hasn’t wowed me since The Sith Lords.
It was ahead of its time, like all the Star Wars shooters were.
Like this
Hell, with how bad modern Bioware is, I count it as a blessing that they haven’t touched anything Star Wars recently.
Yeah, I do Skyrim too from time to time. Same engine underneath I think as the Fallouts from 3 forward.
It’s hard to imagine how it could be worse than Disney, but I had trouble believing Disney could fuck up worse than edit-my-famous-works-and-add-Jar-Jar Lucas.
Now that I think about it, if anyone could fuck it up worse it would be “My face is tired” Bioware.
It is. I downloaded the Special Edition in October and modded it like the video below. I actually prefer Skyrim to Fallout because I love the Medieval setting, but Fallout is my #2
The melee combat of the current Bethesda engine just never felt right to me. Fallout always beat out TES for that reason until I switched to pure-bow combat.
I prefer Bethesda simply because of the modding community. Sure, they put out games with bugs, but what massive open world games don’t have them? At least with ES/FO I know the modders will fix it and make the game beautiful.
That’s me. I use my bow 99% of the time. I hardly ever have an enemy touch me
Stealth Bow is the single easiest non-cheat cheat code to Skyrim I think.
Why someone would run through dungeons with a sword baffles me. It’s sneak, sneak, sneak with me
I only run stealth anymore when I edit the movement speed in console. It’s just too slow otherwise.
Honestly, non-stealth bow can be pretty ridiculous with the right enchanting and smithing skills. You have to go out of your way to find crafting materials at lower levels, but long-run it’s worth it.
I still remember UESP for Oblivion. That patch was almost as long as the game, but one by one the bugs were fixed by unpaid laborers.
It’s crazy. There is also a group making a mod to let you play Oblivion using Skyrim’s engine
Skyblivion looks so promising. I think they finally wrapped up Skywind (Morrowind on the Skyrim engine).
I never played Morrowind. Oblivion was my first. Is it worth buying?
Republic Commando was easily the best Star Wars game I played. I enjoyed it more than KOTOR 2. The latter game’s light/dark side mechanic was pretty bad. It’s impossible to be neutral and you’re forced to be a goody two-shoes or a baby stomper to get the morality benefits.
Check out Beyond Skyrim too
It’s really hard to find a game that does moral choices well. The Witcher series probably does it best, but from Bioshock to Mass Effect the morality systems just don’t work the way morality does in life.
EDIT: Come to think of it, any improvement to KOTOR would be found in improving the morality system. That is a change that could be positive.
Tyranny is the only good game in recent memory that actually got morality right. Evil isn’t about killing people for fun, it’s a choice like any other with its own set of pros and cons.
Why the hell did they close Reaxxion? The least they could do is post video game article in RoK.
It’s particularly strange in Star Wars, where the Dark Side is well explored. A “dark side” choice is simply one that serves you without regards for ramifications, though it can also be a deliberately evil act. In the same way, a light side action isn’t just saving the puppies but also striving to analyze perspectives to benefit as many as possible.
In a good Star Wars setup, all playstyles should be valid. If you can keep a balance between light and darkness, there should be a perk for that. If you go all light, a perk for that. If you go all dark, a perk for that. You could even go a bit deeper and give perks related to HOW you took those paths (e.g. a Grey Jedi who gains light for trying to benefit his allies but dark for punishing his enemies).
Not enough content creators to sustain the site, IIRC. There’s only so much you can say about video games without becoming either straight-RoK or TechRaptor, and you need enough writers to post a few articles a day.
where is the mod exactly? I was expecting a monster truck or something
I like that. Personally, I live a neutral life. I take no sides or align with no group. This perspective has to be reflected in video games.
Remember that Ostagar part from Dragon Age? Your choice in regards to the wounded soldier in the beginning is to heal him, ignore him or kill him. LOL! That was pathetic.
Not sure if serious……..
That’s okay. They can post video game articles once in a while. Like how they post articles about movies.
Honestly, I don’t remember a damn thing about Dragon Age. I’m pretty sure I played through the story of Origins, but for the life of me I can’t remember any details (except that the goth chick was pretty hot).
“except that the goth chick was pretty hot”
Agreed. I always romance the redhead in game so I can bang the goth chick in the end. Two for the price of one!
What’s a fallout?
Honestly, probably exactly what you expect. It’s a video game series set in the US following a nuclear winter.
Because of my addictive personality about video games, I make it a point not to play anything complex. Zumas revenge is about as far as I go.
I have that same addictive personality issue. I was losing so much time that I simply quit altogether. That was back in the days of Doom.
I have pretty much the same problem. In college I had video game consoles, but I made it a point to only hook them up when I had free time (a rare enough thing for an engineering student).
Online games are a problem, as well, which is why I never play subscription-based games. When you have thirty days of playtime, it’s even harder to set them aside for a few months while you work on something important.
Actually…..
It’s a video game series set in the future U.S. where the culture is exactly like what 1950’s America saw the future looking like, which then gets nuked.
Shiny 1877 gatling please.
But being evil in video games is the best. I love going the evil route
Ah yes fallout
I was 31 banging the 19 year old secretary a few years back. Even today, ex coworkers will ask me how I pulled it off.
You didn’t tell them how did you? I had a 26 y.o. engineer that was a seven all day long without makeup do everything she could to get with me when I was 48. (dolled up she was an 8+). The silly girl wanted me to marry her! I was her dad’s age! I even asked her how she thought that was going to work at holiday get togethers. We spent a week together on a remote job site and I pinned her down on what turned her on about me. The biggest thing was self confidence. That is apparently lacking in most men these days.
Among millennial girls, I’ve found just maintaining eye contact is enough to soak their panties through.
Something must be seriously wrong with a lot of guys out there.
LOL!
No joke, I had two same-night lays with sober women based on little more than eye contact and a cocky smile in the past year or so.
I’m not unattractive, but I wasn’t even really playing the Game those nights. I’m not a natural, so how bad must the market be if I can score that simply?
Hey, aren’t you a Christian? I even read an article on your blog, where St. Paul admonishes fornicators…
He also says to confess our sins to one another.
Damn, that’s quite the loophole…
I’m not saying what I did wasn’t sin, but I also won’t say I haven’t sinned since I got out of bed this morning (frankly, I probably sinned in thought while sleeping). It’s the nature of sinful flesh, and while not a godly thing it is natural.
In confessing our sins, we acknowledge to one another that we have sinned. In this acknowledgment, we basically have to own up to it and help hold each other accountable.
Of course, on the loophole side, we can always point out that David had many wives (one of whom he quite literally took from her husband), as did Abraham and Jacob. Yet these were all loved by God. So it is that we know we can be forgiven a multitude of sins.
I cannot argue the Bible with you as I’m not a Christian. But if you commit a sin and you are forgiven after you confess, doesn’t that defeat the concept of sin and punishment entirely?
I am forgiven even before I confess. We confess because we are ashamed that we have not done as the Lord commands. As Paul writes, “Who shall free me from this body of death?” And, as Jesus said, “The Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
We are justified by Christ wholly independently of anything we have done. He calls us and justifies us, and our confession is more a side effect of the call than the justification. Imagine a man gives you all his wealth, offers his counsel, and tries to help make you the best you can, and you shit the bed he gave you. He doesn’t take away his gift, mind you, but you still feel bad.
That’s the sort of shame a Christian should feel when he sins, and so we confess to God and our brothers.
I see. So when you were engaging in casual sex, you were aware it was a sin and you confessed accordingly. Do you still engage it that behavior now or have you changed?
I resist. Those girls want to go another round, but I don’t want to for the sake of my Lord. That doesn’t guarantee that I won’t engage in fornication again (as I said, the flesh is weak), but I do not desire to sin.
I understand. Thanks for taking the time to explain.
Not a problem. I love every opportunity I get to give an answer for the hope that is in me (I want to say…1 Peter?)
candy?
The worst was one of my attractive co workers who was also the boss’s mistress showing up intoxicated at one of my band’s shows. She had no idea I was a musician nor that I knew she was banging the owner of the company (of course she would not stop talking about it being she was so trashed). I ended up having to drive her home, even worse, refuse her advances. That was a tough Monday morning to say the least
I worked with a very muscular guy. It was that every day. One day, our females co workers crack joke while the HR was here.
My comrade ‘smile then exploded. “If i did the same joke to you, i would be fired immedialtly, he shouted coldly.”
“This is because i’m gay, isn’t it ? And you, the HR guy, you’re doing Nothing ? You ‘d better do Something before i report to GLAAD !!!”
Electric shock. It was like an icy blizzard get on the office. There was one of those famous reunion. My pal refuse to press charges, but ask for a non – hostile environment. The girls in the office were mortified.
Later, i asked my buddy
– I didn’t know you were gay, Mark
– I’m not. It’s not about what is true. It’s about what they fear.
“It’s not about what is true, its about what they fear”
That man is redpilled beyond belief.
He would be surprise to be called that way. A ‘natural’ one, i guess.
Once you put cunty HR banshees in their place they will be feeding from your hands. A perfect example of this happened to me over the phone with a YOLO HR chick from the system. The phone call ended up with her offering to double her payment to me without any real effort or threat on my part.
The guy in your example by calling out the double standard so blatantly is one form of action but I have to say there are better forms that can be more profitable when you need to exercise justice.
HR banshees? I was called to the Manager’s office on my first day of work for a “talk”. I know they want to get rid of me because of a back problem that I have. Across from me was the resident HR woman/man with her Allen Edmonds on. Meanwhile, she had an obvious disability and it wasn’t her shoe confusion.
Love it ??
Remind me of a French film I have seen some years ago ??
That’s a good one. Myself, I would just pull the race card. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/ed65d9905e7102da1c96c5cf8c949a9679bfbc35e443ab4bcbf60119b5b67bfb.jpg

how many gigs is the folder now??
hahahahahah
still holding at 2.8. That’s an oldie
Thanks Ghost. Yes it has been my experience over the years that women in the workplace know exactly how the game is played & that the deck is stacked in their favor. If you don’t put yourself in a compromising situation it’s unlikely (although not impossible) that you will run afoul of HR. Hell, I got called in for saying “Good morning, Sunshine!” to a particularly sad lady on an assembly line. Then she wondered why I would never talk to her again.
This sort of thing has always amused me. I had people who, for years, couldn’t comprehend why I wouldn’t talk to them after they stabbed me in the back in a big way (sided against me in a legal matter that could have royally fucked up my life – I was in the right and won, anyway).
Glad to see you’re writing articles, man! Look forward to reading your content.
Thank you Champ. I’ll try to come up with some more…what did Carlin call them…”brain droppings” for you, lol!
Vaginastan.
Ghost, back in my twenties I was working at a secure facility that had double chain link fences and an “e-field” security system between them. I had to do some work on the e-field and had two armed female security officers with me (fives at best). They opened the gate and let me into the perimeter and watched everything I did. On my way back in, protocol required one of them to frisk me. So I assumed the position with my hands on the fence. The first one frisked me…thoroughly…and told me to wait right there. Then the second girl frisked me…even more thoroughly. So I asked “What do you call this?”. The black girl said “This what we call double security.” I said “Yeah? This is what I call getting felt up!” We all laughed. Can you imagine how that would have played out if it had been two armed males and a female tech?
You work with your shirt off? Do you mow the lawn?
Good Article Boothe and all solid points. Found being congenial and aloof is a saving grace and gladly second your point on documenting everything. Being Machiavellian by nature is a big help, but where I disagree is on bedding women you work with. There are a few rules to that trade that I guarantee most men do not know, but all your supervisors do. I may write an article about it since that is a whole untapped market where some people are leaving ‘money’ on the table.
Thanks Red. Hey, I have known men who banged every chick they could on the job and got away with it. But I have seen it blow up enough to believe it’s not the best plan. But every man has to figure out what is the acceptable risk to reward ratio for him.
As an engineer that works for a utility i agree with all points above. You will be surprised how little work it takes to be viewed highly. And most of the time just shut up and do what you are told regardless of how stupid it sounds.
Amen!
I can’t do that, I resigned from a place just because of that! I cannot stand stupid bosses who squander resources with no hope of payback.
I hear you. I pick my battles but i know when its not worth fighting. The guys that cant do that get passed over for promotion and get labeled as not constructive.
First rate article Sir! Let us hope the first of many…
Your opening point is well noted – better to be an entrepreneur, but not everybody is cut out for it.
It may be that experiencing the corporate world as you describe it (which is indeed how it is, on this side of the Atlantic too) will give that push needed to find the entrepreneur inside.
In building my own company I wanted to create something the very opposite of what you describe here. Of course the regulatory environment pushes for this shit, and accidentally recruiting SJWs can be a real pain, but to an extent we can avoid it and create something…. different!
Be careful about being baited into saying something you shouldn’t. Especially if you are not PC
Indeed. The problem is that there are some really top notch master baiters in the corporate world.
‘master baiters’…. Indeed!
Work at a small company. Small companies are more about fit and culture. You are more likely to be treated like “family” than at a big corporation. Knowing the owner on a first name basis makes it tougher for him to lay you off come a downturn. Psychopaths exist but if you have any bit of EQ you will be able to identify the psychopath.
Plus you have a huge opportunity to develop yourself and even help shape the company…
Yeah that and they don’t really give a shit about diversity and all that horse shit. They only care if they 1) like you and 2) if you can do the job. The have bigger problems than meeting racial and gender quotas. Hell one guy at my company was fired from a larger corporate because of sexual harassment. So you have some fallen angels as well. Red pilled boomers (in a way)
There are a few of us 😉
Your description is apt… I spend plenty of time figuring out how to avoid the stupid fucking blue bill legislation arsehole governments inflict on business…
and yeah, I’m a fallen angel (Corporate Banking… made me fucking puke!)
And do it quick-like since small companies are going the way of the dinosaur…
Just need to find the right niche….
It has its advantages to be sure. One downside is they typically can’t pay as much as a big corporation. But you will be a big fish in a small pond and can really shine. I worked for a small outfit for 5 years doing field service and loved it. But the money they promised never materialized, so I moved on. But I can say it was the best job I ever had.
How about ALL men refuse to goto work for just 1 day, then see how society runs. Let the woman do it, they are so empowered and independent so they don’t need men to goto work. I amagen heaps of garbage left on the side of roads, power failures everywhere, and general service breakdown being the norm if ALL men as a collective decided FUCK YOU! It’s unbelievable the damage Feminists have done to the relations of men and woman. These woman should be hung.
Keep any jewess at arms length. Do not speak to unless absolutely necessary. Better to come off as cold and impersonal.
the day they hire that shit here I’m OUT
While this is true, the same goes really for all people. As a for instance, in my youth I got a whole bunch of tattoos. I think it would absolutely shock the people who I have worked for and with for years and years. Create a work persona and be that person at work. You aren’t paid for your personality, you are paid to do a job. Who you are as a person, your feelings, goals, aspirations etc….all that is no ones business there and only serves to hurt you if people know it.
I agree 100% but it is tough to put on a charade (fake persona) for 40+ hrs a week.
It took me about 3 months to cave into my natural self here. Must be the right place because they still keep me around.
I did it just about every minute for four years (college). Of course it’s not fun, but it can be done if you make a game of it.
My favorite was learning to sound like I agree while actually disagreeing. If you phrase things JUST right, they always hear what they want to hear.
I used to think so, but I changed the way I view it and it has become easier. Essentially (and of course this may just be self justification) there is a job which needs doing and I am well compensated to get it done in the manner I see fit (so long as It gets done). The best way for me to get that done, the path of least resistance, is for me to be lolknee the business man. The reputation I have cultivated both in my company and in the industry in general, the connections I have formed and maintain, the work I do every day is simply easier for the persona and that persona isn’t a lie or a charade…it is just me giving the absolute bare bones of my soul and nothing more to my employers and my work life which, fortunately, actually makes the job easier.
Anonymity helps.
I meant here, at the job, not here here. I am loud enough to be anything BUT anonymous.
oh lol
I think finding the *right* place for you is the only true way to have success in a corporate environment. I could not make it at a company the is more globalist/left leaning in general. Most people at my place of employment voted for trump (even the women), and especially the important people. And when you have found that place… hold on for dear life! As the saying goes: the devil you do know is better than the devil you don’t know.
I actually left once, looking for Greener Pastures. I was back here in 9 months.
I swear it goes back to “fake it until you make it”. I’m very artistic by nature (taught myself to draw, paint and make jewelry quite young). So technical work always felt forced and I hated it. But I just hung in there and eventually through sheer determination and experience got into the “Oh well” mode and pull down better than six figures just cruising on auto-pilot now. I plan on retiring after my house is paid off (in 4 years) and then pursuing my real passions of art and writing. It’s never too late unless you’re dead.
I just realized who wrote this!
Well done Boothe!!!
It’s always *great* to see a commenter make the jump to writer! A sign of the vitality and authenticity of RoK one feels…
Thank you Marcus. I really respect Roosh’s commitment to restoring masculinity and turning back the “progressive” tide. Part of that is surviving long enough to become financially secure so one is able to speak one’s mind without fear of reprisal. I hope this will help some of my fellow men achieve that goal if they are slogging through the corporate swamp.
This is why so many of us are here!
I completely respect this view you express here. I am fortunate to be able to do this in my own life, and in my own Company, and just hope it brings some other lost Men over to our side. Lord knows we need it…
Oh shit, maybe we need one on the military careers too…
That was how I got my start, USAF avionics. After four years I walked right in to a “civilian” nuclear power plant. Of course that’s when I discovered I had actually joined the Navy because 80% of my coworkers were former Squids. However, the empire fed me, clothed me, housed me, trained me and gave 3 years of hands on experience. All I had to do was keep my nose clean for four years (or at least not get caught). No student debt, veteran’s status for hiring, plus an understanding of how big bureaucracy works. I probably would not do it again knowing what I know now, but it was a good gig for me when I was 17. Maybe that will be the subject of my next article unless you want to write it.
I really suffered because of that – not having my believes aligned with my actions/words. Since doing so would mean getting fired and alienating people.
I used to be very direct in my opinions, but it didnt feel good – you just make people mad/resentful toward you.
Haha I think we’d have to compile a few of our experiences for a full article. Mine is on the other side of the fence since I commissioned and I’ll have to get some more experience. I’m on a similar track to you, though.
Thanks bem. A fellow commenter called “Niagara” requested this for the younger guys here. I doubt they’ll listen to an old fart (I know I didn’t) but at least it’s out here for them. Plus it was a lot of fun writing this.
I wish I’d had more ‘old fart’ red-pill advice when I was a young man… would have saved me from my biggest (all women related) lifetime disasters!
One piece of old fart advice I wish I could have told myself is to hold on to male friendships. Once you get married, it becomes very difficult to do, much less make new male friendships. 10 years go, and you realize you have nobody but women and children to talk to.
It’s hard enough making solid male friendships for millennials, anyway. Everywhere you turn you see what are probably men (even with a beard, it’s sometimes hard to tell) without a shred of value to add to your life.
Honestly, that’s part of the reason I’m here. I’ve got one (singular) male friend who’s worth a squirt of piss.
Indeed. My ‘friends’ here vastly outnumber the ones in real life.
“If you can count your true friends on the fingers of more than one hand you are fooling yourself.” – Gandhi
same here, just bought a new house and moved so I have to do it all again. Takes years as they are busy too.
Our group has shared so much on our Telegram channel over the last year that I feel like I know y’all better than I do most of the people that I’ve interacted with for years in real life.
Remind me to set Telegram up. Your chat sounds like a hell of a lot more fun than most things in life.
Ok.
Set up Telegram.
Mission accomplished. Heh.
It is a hoot.
If I may offer some advice?
If you haven’t, look into UPROMISE and get a credit card that feeds into that. Then put your mortgage on the card and pay it off every month by cheque.
Your kids will thank you for it.
UPromise is pretty cool. I signed up everyone who would listen. Free money.
I’ll look into it. We have a 10 year loan so we should get it paid off by the time our second oldest goes to school/
Using that, I was able to give both of my kids $60k each for college. Both will graduate with almost no debt at all.
YES. 1000x yes.
I’ve got a client who is in that boat, I went to his house a while back and met his lovely wife and four daughters. After a few minutes he whispered to me, “Bob, let’s go out on the porch, there’s too much estrogen in here…”
You still communicate via telegrams?!?!
Keep up with the times, grandpa!
We have a whole mess of guys on the channel actually. It’s fun.
I don’t believe in telegrams.
same here!
and its a trap! they also end up controlling the ‘family friends’…
when I saw I set out to create my own group of (preferably RoK-aware) male friends…
What channel?
I had to shun my old pals years ago because they were not on the path I wanted for myself. I saw destruction in theirs. Some ended up going to jail for pettiness.
Friends are important but choosing the right ones is critical.
What bugs me is the endless chatter when we are in company. You have to rudely butt in to say a word.
Very true. Im in a 2 year relationship now, and already barely keep in touch with my old friends. At least in the gym I get to have some “guys” conversations.
Make an effort to reconnect from time to time. If too much time goes by, you will have little in common. I did the same mistake.
Excellent article boothe and one I find not just relevant but also absolutely true. Between this, Larsen’s cardio article and AV8Rs tremendous post wall women article ROK seems to be climbing out of the pity party is was having about the end of the world for a while.
Oh shit, you just jinxed it bro.
Naw! This is our reality and jinxed ain’t gittin’ in th’ door! 😉
Blackball, no erasies
Thanks Kneeman, that means a lot to me. Yeah I get tired of doom & gloom. One of the first things I discovered when I started down the rabbit hole was a mirror. When I peered into it I discovered the source of most of my problems, lol!
Beautifully said Boothe. So many people think that “taking the red pill” is all about seeing what is going on out there in the world as it really is and forget to peek with their red-pilled eyes into the mirror first.
Reminds me of this:
“Although one would like to change today’s world back to the spirit of one hundred years or more ago, it cannot be done. Thus it is important to make the best out of every generation. This is the mistake of people who are attached to past generations. They have no understanding of this point.
On the other hand, people who only know the disposition of the present day and dislike the ways of the past are too lax. Be true to the thought of the moment and avoid distraction. Other than continuing to exert yourself, enter into nothing else, but go to the extent of living single thought by single thought.”
—-Yamamoto Tsunetomo, Hagakure
The content on ROK is determined by reader submissions. There is no objective to publish a certain kind of article. If readers only submit doom & gloom, that’s what you’ll see. If there is an article you want to see here, consider submitting it yourself. Ask not what ROK can do for you, etc.
And that is my favorite part of this big tent…just commenting on patterns.
If you’re the new guy, you may be tempted to allow this dreadful phrase to escape your word hole, “Well that’s not how we did it at my last job.” I’m amazed at how many people make this mistake. You will instantly be put on the shit list. Don’t do it.
Right – if you know a better way, show it through your work and explain later.
I imagine my former coworkers will start adopting elements of my style when they start maintaining my code, assuming they get their heads out of their asses. A young buck like me shouldn’t be known for turning in thousands of lines of optimized code every couple of weeks, but everything that I do to make that possible is apparent in my code.
So true. My favorite snarky response to that is “You’re not in Kansas any more Toto!”
If you start at a corporation on the bottom rung, don’t expect to rise far and fast. Work for a few years, get the hot management certification that makes you marketable when combined with some work experience, then start over with a new company at a mid level position.
From there, much better pay, benefits, vacation, promotions and respect can be expected.
Even better, if you can swing it, do some equity contracting on the side. It takes a few extra hours of work a week, but startups need skilled workers willing to get their hands dirty for the potential of profit. Sometimes you can get hired for positions tiers above your corporate status simply because you’re the one who looks like he can get the job done (an acquaintance is a CTO at 25, and he’s showing some aptitude).
100% agree, and it’s not soul crushing work.
“From there, much better pay, benefits, vacation, promotions and respect can be expected.” – You get the respect you deserve. If you have to change companies to get it, you didn’t earn it in the first place and it’s probably why you didn’t get promoted at the first company.
No, when your new, companies offer lower wages and benefits knowing entry level employees have limited options. Again promotions typically come with flat dollar or small percentage wage increase.
Swithcing jobs a few years in with the righ certification, you can easily get a 30 to 50% bump in pay, better title, and a week or two more vacation.
If you think respect at the bottom rung is relevant you have a lot to learn.
Respect is relevant everywhere. We hire boys right out of college who prove they can do the job well and they’re promoted in less than a year.
But do you increase their pay by more than 10% at a crack? At the lowest level if a corporation can keep you in the 2 to 3% raise per year, breaking into 6 figures before turning 40 is very difficult. Respect doesn’t mater if your not paided well.
Some really fine articles around these parts lately – excellent!
Attend college + Incur massive student loan debt + Become a corporate drone = A life of slavery
(Disclaimer: The author of this comment did not intend for the equation to be an all-encompassing absolute. Outcomes will differ, depending on the individual who attends college and racks up the student loan debt. However, in the vast majority of cases, it is the eventual outcome for most collegians these days. Meaning, they become debt slaves and spend their lives on a corporate ladder to nowhere. But, there are exceptions.)
you forgot marry a terrible woman
Attend college + Incur massive student loan debt + Become a corporate drone + Marry a terrible woman = A life of slavery
(Fixed it.)
You forgot “have children” and “get divorced”.
Isn’t that implied with “marry a terrible woman”?
Attend college + Incur massive student loan debt + Become a corporate drone + Marry a terrible woman +Have children + Get divorced = A life of slavery
(This formula is starting to look like one of Einstein’s…except his didn’t make any sense.)
Not necessarily. Sometimes she could stick with you just to make your life living hell.
Sometimes, I hear, the divorce reduces the degree of slavery. An acquaintance swears up and down that he has more expendable income now than he did when he was married, even with alimony and child support (she lived beyond their means, but the state is charging him well within those means).
She must have really been into those shoes and designer purses.
Your acquaintance sounds like an optimist. I like his attitude…
That student loan is some really nasty shit. I have a cousin who got stuck with it when he was a teen. Now, even with a high paying job he can’t rid himself of it.
That loan will leech out half of his life. Poor fucker…
It’s downright amazing how many kids we push into college without educating them in detail about the impact of the debt they’re taking on. School loan debt can’t be erased in bankruptcy and can ruin your life as fast as knocking up the school doorknob.
If I were to divorce today:
No debt, the house is almost paid off, so it would be sell and split even, and we have no loans or other debt.
No alimony
No child support
Splitting up of stocks, 401k’s and other financial assets
Walk away single, in shape, a millionaire and with a pep in my step
Divorce doesn’t have to be a bad thing, but if you have little kids in the picture it can be a nightmare.
It’s not a life of slavery. It’s the life of a mercenary. Companies pay you for getting a job done. You can always negotiate a better deal with someone else after the job is over. If you do good work, they seek you out and they pay handsomely. You own nothing but your reputation and you owe no one.
That’s how I see it. The slavery part comes in if you incur a lot of debt that forces you to suck it up and work at a place you hate. Without looming debt, you can pick and choose as you wish and there is no threat of “or else!” from some corporate HR bitch that bothers you.
The only debt I carry is my mortgage. Everything else is paid. It’s the only way to roll.
Truth right here. If you do school smart and are capable you will have your debt paid off very quickly and make a lot of money.
I chose a vocational school instead of a 4 year degree. That left me with a much more manageable level of debt than most of my colleagues.
A very fair idea. I know a guy who is an x-ray welder who had all his debt paid quickly and now, with all his additional certs plus over time pulls nearly 200k a year
I rarely have a need to have my X-rays welded together. Seems that they would melt really fast at any level of heat above 150 degrees.
There was a story all over the financial “news” about some kid who was living out of a storage trailer at Google headquarters. It’s been about two years, so he’s probably got all his college debts paid off by now.
Unless you have a real hard-on and the means to pay for it (or the tolerance to be indebted to it) for a vocation that truly requires a college education, I would advise people to avoid the university route at all costs.
If you want to be an engineer, you have to get your bachelors’. Same is true if you want to teach at a collegiate level (40+ years of experience < some shit with a Masters in an unrelated field) or be a doctor of some kind.
For just about everything else, there’s a better way. If you just like computers, there are certifications and vo-tech programs (or, for the truly self-motivated, books and GitHub). If you want good money and don’t feel like you’re above a bit of labor, there’s everything from HVAC to welding programs and apprenticeships out there. If you want to run a business, go start a business (seriously, business school is a joke).
you should actually start adding “wakka wakka wakka” after these
Exactly.
Here’s some basic cost analysis on business school:
Cost to form an LLC (est.): $200
Cost to set up web presence (annual): $200
Cost of storage (physical product, annual): $200
Cost of materials: varies (for a first business, don’t start too big)
So you can figure a year running a failed business will set you back something like $1k. If you add in the cost of buying business books, assuming one non-textbook per week, you’re looking at maybe $1.2k. That’s a thousand dollars for a year of experience building a business from the ground up.
Business school is four years at between $5k and $30k per semester (and, honestly, a cheap business degree is even less valuable than none to many employers).
Business school is a joke depending on the school. While an MBA is generally useless and no where near as important as running a business, even one that fails. However, an MBA from Harvard, Yale, Columbia, The Wharton Biz School or Booth School @ U Chicago, Sloane @ MIT or Kellogg School will cultivate you serious connections which will be worth the time and money you spend on the MBA 100 times in the first year out.
For instance, Columbia Business School has a tuition of 70k per year with an average starting salary of MBAs of 150k/year. Harvard and Wharton have even better ROI. Add to that the fact that you will have connections to people who actually matter in the business world and the tuition and time is a steal. ANy other MBA from any other school, State or Private, is basically expensive toilet paper, but having an MBA from one of these schools actually does matter for a specific line of industry. Some caveats…you have to want to be in the business world…if the suit and tie corporate existence isn’t for you then this isn’t the right path.
Also, a note on connections. A very smart man in St Martin who sells incredibly expensive and hard to find timepieces and has serious connections in that world told me “everyone always says “it’s not what you know it is who you know” but that is only part of the story. The truth is, it isn’t who you know but who you know that likes you”
Point is, if you go to Wharton and everyone there thinks you are a dickface then it might hurt more than helps.
That’s all very true… but let’s be honest — everyone who does to Wharton is pretty much a dickface.
Dickface is fairly subjective. I didn’t say you can’t be a dickface when you go to Wharton I said that you don’t want the people you meet there to think you are a dickface….being well received by your peers and Colleagues is objectively important in business unless you have Warren Buffet money. Look at one of my personal heros in the biz Eddie Lampert. Yeah, there are some people who think he is a total asshole…most of those people are people who are either jealous or have been totally fucking crushed by his awesomeness. But when he walks in a room people like him, people listen and as much as a dickface as he is there has never been a point in his life that the people around him didn’t take his calls whether it was his fellow Bonesters, execs at goldman, or the Oracle of Omaha himself Warren Buffet. yeah, he is a bit of an asshole but he is in a business where you can’t succeed without it and the right people have always liked him.
I think it was more like a coffin(but with really high ceilings)
Good point and an excellent delineation about being perceived as a dickface.
I stand by my assertion, however, that everyone who goes to Wharton is an actual dickface.
“if you go to Wharton and everyone there thinks you are a dickface then it might hurt more than helps.”
But you may one day be president!
yes, everyone at Wharton is objectively a dickface. However, would you rather know a good guy with a good heart who will help you move your furniture or a total dickface who makes you Rich as fuck? Ill take the dickface who makes me rich over “friendly eddie” every day of the week
I’m currently in the healthcare IT business but I’m looking at starting a pool cleaning/maintenance business on the side. If it takes off, audios to the corporate world. I can always do consulting gigs during the off season
I’d have to agree with that in theory.
No “u” in Adios, but that’s a good way to go. I’ve found that, as a rule, there’s usually room in the market for a contractor who is responsive and provides a good service for reasonable pay.
“Business school is a joke depending on the school. While an MBA is generally useless..”
It is. I would encourage any young man who wants to go the business route, to shoot for an accounting degree and the CPA. No matter what you do later in life, the fact you understand financial statements, cash flows, budgets and tax planning gives you a deeper understanding of any industry you work in.
Shitty job really. Not sure what Trumps peers thought of him when he was there. The truth is that he has had an incredibly bad reputation in the business world for decades and only gets by because he is wealthy enough to have a bad reputation. a few billion dollars lets you be disliked by everyone. They will kiss your ass anyway. But I have zero doubt in my mind that if trump had to actually start from scratch he would be getting fired from his latest job in retail as we speak.

….unless it was owned by his dad.
what a diknose!
This is solid advice. Again, if you can pull off Yale Undergrad and then do a Harvard or Columbia or Wharton MBA it will be worth it. Otherwise don’t bother.
But…on the bright side, women enjoy sitting on his face…
Definitely. And where I’m at there is no one that provides this service so it’s wide open.
Agreed, without question.
Agreed. Unless it is a top tier school, don’t even bother and further more go to a community college in order to get the credentials to sit the state CPA exam. Keep the student loans to a bare minimum.
this is also right. It is also good advice, at this stage, for law schools. There was a time that second tier law schools would give you a very good chance at a respectable living and decent ROI but at this point if you aren’t accepted to a Tier 1 law school don’t waste your money
Ha! I was going to mention law school as well, but left it out.
That’s not necessarily true, unless you want the PE stamp. I held a senior engineering position based on my experience and skills for two years, no degree. I absolutely hated it, but I was more than able to do it.
I’ve heard being a “pool boy” has some great fringe benefits. In fact I found out my wife likes banging the pool boy. Fortunately I’m too cheap to hire it done, so I’m the pool boy. Ha!
Yeah, it’s really precise work welding x-rays together. That’s why it pays so much. Ha!
“It’s the life of a mercenary.”
That’s exactly it. A friend once asked me what I changed employers almost every 2-5 years— “because I am compensated more with each jump.” He was still doing the same gig after a decade (and admitted hating the fact I made more than him).
He who dares wins.
lateral advancement
Some guys are content with the 1-2% annual pay increase and the occassional bonus for the (illusion of) security of the corporate hive. I look for opportunity to advance and have found you make your own luck when you are on the hunt for better things. It all depends on what you are looking for and what you can offer. The rest is up to negotiation.
I was talking to a field service engineer from Black & Veatch years ago. He advised me to never stay at one job more than five years if I wanted top dollar for my skills. I was young and ignored him at the time, but from what I’ve seen it’s very true. My wife said the same thing applied to nursing as well and travelling jobs paid the best.
I am considering going independent in a few years and charge over the market prices for short term contracts. There is a market and I know a few who have found a niche.
Read this: it’s almost completely unheard of, but this book is the single best analysis I’ve ever seen on how to thrive inside a big corporation: https://www.amazon.com/Thick-Face-Black-Heart-Philosophy/dp/0446670200
I have read this and I couldn’t agree more. Excellent suggestion
I don’t see woman as humans anymore, I see them as cum rags to be used and thrown out like toilet paper, nothing more. This is thanks to feminism poisoning the well for the past 30 years, even Asian woman I don’t see them as humans..globally I see woman as sub human brainwashed fruitcakes to be fucked and chucked. This site always makes me so triggered…just like a feminist.
“Women are subhuman detritus, just like the crusty brown nuggets you find at the bottom of a fry vat.” – Gandhi
so tasty….so unhealthy….
LOL
There’s the Gandhi I know and love.
I really can’t grok that level of cynicism. Not saying you’re not entitled to your opinion, we all have our own path to walk, but I generally take women as they are by nature. Once I accepted that a woman is a certain way by nature, much as a tiger is a certain way by nature, then I realized that as long as I understood it and respected the boundaries, that I could find a lot to enjoy about being with women. True feminine positive energy is something I really like to have around (not all the time of course). It makes life pleasant and charming.
I just like to fuck woman, and throw them off my property or fuck then kill…whatever I desire. I have very low tolerance to a womans bullshit.
To each his own.
I like having feminine energy around…but I do not like to be manipulated and lied to like im some chump they can use as a puppet, the puppet mastery of woman is fast coming to an end. We know what they are upto.
See, that’s just it. I know that they try that, they really can’t help it, it’s just how women are. I’ve learned to easily deflect such attempts and maneuver around traps with impunity. Once you get past a certain stage they get comfortable with you and relax into being pleasant instead of constantly shit testing you.
Really?…My girl friend and I were together for 3 years and she was still throwing shit tests…which I totally ignore because I have better things to do than argue with a woman. The testing NEVER ends….EVER.
In all honesty I’d have to see first hand how you interact with women to give you more specific advice. I rarely catch shit from women at all, ever, once I get to know them. I mean they’ll shit test, sure, but I have some kind of verbal kung fu powers going on that disarms that stuff quick and for whatever reason they are satisfied with that. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes shit goes down the drain fast, but most of the time it’s laughably easy once you know the rules.
That’s a very self-limiting belief. Woman and man are not absolutely equal, nor are they the same in so many ways, but the differences make things very interesting.
Perhaps it would behoove you to take a summer sabbatical. Get away from people, in general, turn off all media, and focus on why you think and believe absolutely everything you do (not just about women, but every belief).
I think im intoxicated by consuming too much red pill information.
It has not been my experience that this site has that effect on people, but I do remember that starting to understand reality was painful and made me angry at times. I was coming off a false rape allegation and decades of abuse, so I had a lot to detox, but I found meditation in solitude helped me work through it.
Go take that sabbatical. Seriously, it’ll do wonders.
In 2 years I can see woman feeling the heat big time, men are turning there backs to these slags…give it time…and sorry will not be good enough…maybe men will throw them a bone…If they are lucky.
What’s going to happen in 2 years to cause such a big change?
You’ll see, woman are waking up too remember…they are waking up that they have been feed lies lies lies everyday for the past 30 years.
and they’ll do what when they’ve woken up?
It’ll be the biggest cat fight you have ever seen in your life…it’s gana be a jolly good show.
So… women will suddenly realize that they’ve been lied to since 1987 (30 yrs ago) and will wake up and fight each other. For what? For the privilege of asking your forgiveness? Yeah. That sounds realistic. Get me a couple of tickets to that show, would ya?
Yes it will happen slowly at first…then it will accelerate, get your popcorn ready.
What happens after they’re tired of fighting? That’ll take, what, 3 minutes?
Then we throw them a bone…literately.
If movies are any indication, they start MAKING OUT!
And then tickle fights. In lingerie.
I bet $100usd that Trump will get a second term.
Fuck I gota get off this site, It makes me want to start beating woman for the hell of it. Beat and fuck, beat and fuck, rinse and repeat.
What about anything on this site makes you want to “start beating woman for the hell of it” ? I’ve never seen anything on RoK that made me feel like that.
Cause I can see woman for what they really are, these evil manipulating freaks out to fuck men over any way possible. And it boils my blood.
Women are just as much of a victim of their own woman-ness as anyone else.
And that’s our fault why?…if they are too stupid to see it, they deserve everything they get, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
I never said it was anyone’s fault. My only point is that if you are letting them get to you this badly, the problem is not with them or with RoK, its with you.
Yea, true…I just feel, like I wana goto war and start killing people, im bored..and woman seem to be an easy target since they continue to rub me up the wrong way.
Go to the gym and work out really hard. Play some loud music, lift some heavy shit. Hit the punching bag. Sweat your ass off for a few hours. Stop thinking for a while. Then get a good night’s sleep. You’ll feel much better in the morning.
Everday I hope for war, I want war, I deeply deeply desire it, ill be either far away from it fucking woman to replenish the reinforcements or ill be at the front line kicking fucking ass.
I do, I smash weights everyday, im pumped on testosterone, and every suppliment possible, im taking self improvement to insain levels it’s almost like a drug, im obsessed, when I see someone bigger than me I hate that guy.
Then maybe you need to dial it back a little. All things in moderation. Maybe you’ve got too much testosterone clouding your thoughts.
Maybe…but that’s like me saying to a woman ohhhhh your estrogen is too high…see how ridiculous that sounds?
I’ve seen it. My mom had some surgery that made it so she needed some estrogen supplementation, and the dose was a bit high. It was not unlike a long PMS.
Women get too full of estrogen all the time, and it makes them even more nuts than they usually are.
True, you can mark on a calendar whenever my wife and I argue, sure enough, it is like clockwork. We are due to have another in about 2-1/2 weeks.
This one is unhinged. Or maybe just 10 yrs old. Best to ignore and not end up on his list of people to shoot some day.
unhinged…I think im being realistic…if you want to coddle woman like they are some special beings out to make your life better I think its you who is unhinged.
I don’t coddle them. I don’t beat or kill them either.
Well maybe its time we do, then they will start treating men with a thing called “Respect” I duno about you but im way past the limp wrist-ed stage, im at Conan stage.
Respect is earned. No one respects a man who beats the hell of out a woman. Least of all the woman he beats.
People will treat you exactly as you let them. If women don’t respect you it’s because you aren’t acting worthy of respect.
Women respect me perfectly fine. In fact, they more or less dote on me.
You have to learn how to tame the tiger without having to kill it OR be eaten by it. Recognize and respect its nature for what it is and develop a strategy to get it jumping through your hoops by using its own nature against it. That’s the key right there man, learn to use their nature, good and bad, for your own cause. They do all the work for you after that.
Ohhhh they will respect, brute force has its place…why do you think people in North korea respect King Kim…not because hes a weak limp wrist-ed fag.
Fear of reprisal is not respect. Fear of being beaten is not respect.
No one legitimately respects Kim, they only do what he says because they fear being tortured or murdered for disobeying him.
True respect starts from within. Start being the man you want to be. Start respecting yourself. Focus inward, rebuild yourself, become the best you that you can be. People will respect that, including women.
Yea, im just all red pilled out, its so intoxicating, no one said the red pill was easy to swallow but iv taken too many and now it’s turning me into this crazed lunatic that doesn’t hate woman but only views them as sub human fuck machines, incapable of loving a man.
I feel like Conan, I just want to see woman screaming, either in pain, or in pleasure, either one will do fine.
That will pass in time. This is just a stage. You have to start getting to the deeper levels of Red Pill where you start gaining some acceptance of what the world really is and how to find your path in it.
Find a new hobby, something that challenges you, improves you in some way. I think you are projecting outwards a lot of stuff that you are feeling inside, and it’s just not entirely rational because its all pent up and mixed up.
You just have to get out of your head for a while. Distract yourself from this shit a little and just enjoy life.
Im trying, but it’s so hard, im at the Conan stage, which is pretty deep in the rabbit hole, but I think once I hit the acceptance stage I will see a new level of self improvement.
You will. Focus on thinking like that. Focus on what you can do to better yourself internally. Step out of your comfort zone. The Red Pill opens up your potential — use that to move forward. You’ve got all this energy and stuff going on — start burning it off in constructive ways.
Stay positive. Take a sabbatical from women for a little while if you have to. If they aren’t adding value to your life right now, then you don’t need them right now.
Do you ever read any of Rollo Tomassi’s stuff on Rational Male? He has a lot of “next level” Red Pill stuff that can help you start to move from the anger phase into the acceptance phase.
Seconded. Rollo’s stuff helped me move forward, as well.
Wish I could upvote this more. Rational Male is some next level, high quality content.
Well I have everything, I have gold and silver, I have rental houses and land, I have stocks, I have multiple income streams, and I live in a shitty 1 bedroom apartment and fuss over spending $1 on something that’s probably not worth it…im a millionaire and I live like an animal pretty much, all this consumerist bullshit does not interest me, very minimalist, I don’t watch tv, I just smash weights with my personal trainer at the gym all day, take lots of supplements, I have accepted that 99% of the people in the world probably hate me by default, I have a son, I have everything…but I still feel incomplete, I feel like something is missing.
It sounds like what’s missing is purpose.
Nothing wrong with being Scottish about your money.
That sounds like it reaches the heart of things. You have an emptiness inside you that needs filling, but you don’t know what it is. How can you solve a problem you can’t identify?
Seek that answer. This is your quest – why do you feel empty?
Dude, you’re sounding a bit like Yoda. A few word order reversals and I swear I’m going to read your posts in his voice.
Very true. Most women are not evil in themselves, they are who they are. You can choose what path to take, depending on your phase in life. Same with politics and other matters.
I did watch Empire last night…
Yea…I mean I could goto the beach do a baywatch and fuck many many girls…but I see other men doing that and it’s just a continuous cycle, I had a girl friend but she done the old classic “The spark is gone” so I told her to goto hell, cause as long as people are spending MY money they live by MY rules, and if that means I goto the lady bars at 2am to fuck random sluts then so be it, I do not tolerate woman coming into my house telling me shit like “You cant have other girls over or in YOUR bed, I don’t accept that shit, im the man I pay the bill if woman don’t want to play by MY rules they can fuck off.
If a girl tells you “The spark is gone”, dose her in lighter fluid and throw a match at her saying “No, here it is”
Ok, that’s not helpful, sorry, but I felt obligated anyway. Don’t listen to my advice, heh.
Funny thing was I actually googled “The spark is gone” and you wouldnt fucking believe what I found…ahgggggggggg (Throw’s plate at wall)
Yes…maybe I do some travelling, I have money…I can do whatever the fuck I want…maybe a safari, shoot some endangered species to outrage everyone.
Try visiting a monastery. They’re quiet, isolated, and free of women.
I like outraging people…that makes me happy…
When hater’s hate on me, it brings me joy, so it makes me want to outrage them even more, I actually get off on that…because im Unfuckwithable.
No no I want action, killing endangered species takes it to a whole new level of public outrage. And post the pictures all over my facebook showing me next to the dead bodies of tigers, elephants etc
Okay, first of all, I would start looking at what you are putting into your body. You’ve mentioned taking “lots of supplements” several times now. You should consider if maybe you are putting too much of something into your body that is screwing with your emotions or your thinking. Body, mind, spirit… all of these things are interrelated. If one of them gets out of whack, it affects the others.
Secondly, definitely look into some Rollo (Rational Male) and some other more philosophical stuff. The Red Pill is meant to lead us out of the suffering, not trap us in it.
Then you need to start figuring out why you won’t let yourself enjoy your life. You have all of the trappings of a “good life” but it seems like you are refusing to let yourself enjoy it. Something is holding you back. Deep down inside, you know what it is, but you won’t really let yourself think about it. You are projecting it outward, looking to hate or hurt other people.
I’m not telling you to go out and start blowing all your money, but maybe you should allow yourself to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Maybe you should let your son enjoy the fruits of your labor too — maybe he’d enjoy having a house with a big backyard and a pool. I don’t know you well enough to really say any of this, but it just doesn’t fit from the outside looking in that you would have so many things going for you but still seemingly punish yourself and dwell on these negative things.
One thing that has given me perspective in my life is trying to help others. Even just in small ways… reaching out to people I know could use a hand and helping them out.
That has been the most rewarding type of thing I have ever done, and it has given me a lot of perspective about myself. There are a lot of guys out there in bad situations, guys who need help, and you can help them. Show them how you made your money, help them do that kind of thing for themselves. Find a guy at the gym who can’t afford a personal trainer and start coaching him up a little, sharing some of your knowledge and insight.
Just don’t let yourself dwell in this bad place, man. Keep working, keep growing, keep progressing, keep searching for the next step to get you there. You can get to a better place.
You actually have a major weakness, here – you derive the greatest joy from the actions of others. Your joy, and by extension your own self-worth, is tied to reactions.
This is a weak and dangerous place to be. It’s like a drug – you don’t get the rush from the same level of engagement, so you start trying to provoke greater engagement. Eventually you reach a point where you need 100% engagement all the time to feel even a bit normal.
Learn to find purpose and joy within. Or, if so called, find it in Christ.
Im just tired of people trying to fuck with me and telling me how I should live my life, it boils my blood and makes me want to slice those people in half with my sword. And these people dont even have their own houses in order.
I’m not trying to fuck with you. I am not trying to tell you how to live your life at all.
I’m just saying that it sounds like there are some changes that you want to make, some things you don’t like about your life. There are ways to change those things. You don’t have to live with some of this stuff if you don’t want to.
Thankyou Yoda, and your right, I am on alot of supplements and testosterone which does make me aggressive, I think I scare people with how aggressive I am sometimes… I think I have a god complex because soon I will spend thousands of dollars on getting abs implants, and getting blood transfusions of younger blood, stem cells etc…im fucking obsessed. Im obsessed with life extension, im obsessed with body enhancement etc..
Have you ever tried to do the opposite? To really help somebody who was in deep shit and needed a hand?
You can do what you want, but I have a feeling none of that physical, external stuff is really going to help change the things you want to change.
That sounds alittle bit PC to me…we already have too many “Save the children” feminist freaks running around like narcissistic fruitcakes
Ohhhh I wasn’t meaning you, I was just meaning the media and woman, and they seem to do it subconsciously, I value the input of people on this site very very much.
Sounds like you suffer from red pill rage. It’ll pass. You cannot change what you don’t control and it takes time to accept that.
We don’t mean a general “Won’t somebody PLEASE think of the CHILDREN!” sort of help. We mean helping one person on a personal level.
My friend and I have a favorite coffee shop. We don’t drink coffee there, but the truly homeless try to find shelter there during the cold winter nights. We have a quiet setup with some of the baristas – we give them a few twenties, and at their discretion a homeless man gets a cup of coffee so the managers will let them stay inside for a few hours.
We have a lot of fake homeless, but the baristas are good at spotting the difference. One time we got caught by one of the homeless, and he thanked us with tears in his eyes (he was a recent veteran having a hard time keeping a job, and the VA was every bit as helpful as they say).
Red Pill rage…yea cause I consume red pill content day in and day out, even my music is red pilled in one way or another..and im always searching for an enemy…that’s why I keep googling war and world war 3…just hoping it all turns to shit.
But does that mean I shouldn’t be obsessed with life extension technology and the search for becoming a god like creature?..I will be getting blood transfusions of younger blood soon, and stem cells and and and….cause I like to know im not like the others…
No, I’m not talking about giving money to a charity or going to the local soup kitchen to ladle out soup to heroin addicts.
I mean that there are normal people out there just like you and me that are suffering from things you can help them with.
Shit, I remember there was once this elderly couple I saw broken down on the side of the road. Just on a whim, I stopped to help them because they reminded me of my grandparents. They were on a trip to visit their granddaughter and had a flat. The guy was too old to change the tire, but he didn’t want his wife to know, so he was back there huffing and puffing at it in the hot sun.
I offered to help, and he was too proud to accept. I could see it on his face — he was mad that I had insulted him by suggesting he needed help. His wife was sitting there, chewing on him for not getting it done.
So I asked him if he could teach me how to change a tire cause I had never did that before (which was a white lie). Changed the whole dynamic. He was glad to stand there and “teach” me how to change the tire while I did it. His wife was proud of him for showing this other man his knowledge.
When I got done, they huddled together and I could see them counting out a couple $1 dollar bills out of their trip money. They were very poor but too proud not to try to pay me for the help. I refused the money of course… but I have to tell you, helping those old people, getting them off the hot, dangerous side of the interstate, helping that old man save some face in front of his wife… those things made me feel better than any amount of money could.
I remember I actually thanked God for giving me that experience, because in spite of sweating my ass off and busting my knuckles on the over-tightened lugnuts, it was one of the best experiences I’d had in a long time.
Are you between the age 35-40 per chance?
Everything in moderation. Self-improvement can become self-destructive.
Also, you know the truth of it, deep inside you. You don’t have to convince me… but you should try to be honest with yourself. Will those things really solve the problem you are actually trying to solve, or is this just another way of distracting yourself from what you’d rather not face?
Like a fucking vampire drinking blood of the youth in the search for immortality..hahaha
It is a distraction…for what I don’t know but its a healthy distraction for now..
im 34..
Why would you want to be a god? A human mind cannot handle the scope of such matters, and the longest human lifespans are insufficient to gain the kind of wisdom required to perform the job well.
More directly, if you have such an emptiness as you have expressed, why would you want to extend your life beyond your three-score-and-ten? I could understand perhaps wanting such things if you feel fulfilled, but it doesn’t make sense to me to live miserably forever.
Then maybe, just maybe, you should try to focus on the real issues before you take some steps that may be unnecessary or even dangerous. Will ab implants really make things better, or are they just the next step to calf implants, more plastic surgery, etc.? People that start down that plastic surgery obsession — it never ends well. They don’t stop. They always end up looking like freaks.
When I first found the red pill, I was fucking horrified, now im going through stages, im at the god complex conan stage in the search of immortality.
Because for some reason misery brings me an alternate joy…like a kinda ying to the yang or whatever…
Not some organization, some individual. Charity is best done at the most local level possible. Help a guy fix his car or something.
Cool story……. I was in my senior year of high school, driving down the road and there is this 1960’s bus on the side with this little old man on top of it. I stopped to help him out. He was about 90 and could barely see (his wife was driving). I introduced myself, and he was a well known mechanic in the area, only going blind . I got a tow chain, pulled him to his shop and we worked on it, not hard, just a worn out rotor and distributer. I spent the afternoon helping him, including running to town for parts. As a return favor, he let me borrow a 1923 Hupmobile for the upcoming prom.

I hear one of the problems is that the surgery becomes a symbol of your weakness. Whenever a girl with boob implants sees herself in the mirror, she is reminded that she is just a “flat chested” girl who felt the need to have silicon injected in her breasts to feel pretty.
But is it really “joy”? Does it last? Is it really something true or is it just another endorphin rush?
Was only going to do the abs because I have an umbilical hernia so when I get that fixed in Bangkok I might as well do the abs at the same time.
Indeed. The hedonist paradox is something every man should understand and fear.
Man, you don’t have to convince me. I’m on your side. You have to look in at yourself on this.
You know this isn’t helping. Don’t you? You know you are rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, right? So let’s find the leak and plug it, or at least get into a lifeboat.
I duno…I mean I smoke marijuana sometimes, but I stopped completely now, I tell myself dont drink dont smoke just focus on self improvement at all costs, and search for the key…whatever the key is…so far the key seems to be life extention, blood transfusions of younger blood..which is proven to increase your lifespan…things like this…I think im searching for the fountain of youth…for what reason I don’t know…
I think I miss my son, I haven’t seen him for months, and the mother just turned into a bitch, but its more than that, I absolutely refuse to be emasculated, that is partly what im fighting..
Damn, man, I can’t imagine what that must be like. I know that must really hurt man. I love my kids so much, I don’t even want to think about how much pain I would be in, if I didn’t get to see them. I’m really sorry that you are dealing with that.
But whats weird about me, is im willing to write him off, I even said to myself its ok ill just make another one with a woman who doesn’t tell me shit like “The spark is gone”
Come on! Can’t y’all see you’re being taken for a ride? LOL!
Maybe you’re telling yourself that stuff, but maybe you know it really isn’t true. He is your kid, man. He is special. Even if you make another one, he’s still going to be your kid. Your son. Your first born. First born sons have always held a special place in history for a lot of reasons, but partly because they are supposed to carry on our legacy.
And here you are trying everything you can to extend your lifespan. To live forever.
To extend your legacy.
There might be a connection there, man.
Ok, well im going to Bali…getting a tan will be a good start…slaying some pussy will probably help lower the testosterone levels to a more reasonable level, then getting back to focus on my son…fuck his mother if she doesn’t want to be around or with me too bad…
I bought a beer for a veteran last year during…shit, was it Veteran’s Day or Memorial Day? I guess it doesn’t matter – now he’s my best friend.
Good for you, man. Don’t let her ruin things for you. Don’t let her being a bitch stop you from knowing your son and spending time with him.
Yea…maybe…but partly because of the many mind games woman have played on me it’s at a point where I just don’t care anymore…its like society is too fucked up for me to bother…and it is…society really is fucked up BIG time…but im trying to not let it get to me…I thank god everyday for Trump…
Honestly, if you find a bit more inner peace (and I know it’s rough from hard experience) you can probably get a legal renegotiation of your custody. I can’t hardly imagine what it would be to have a son and lose the ability to see him.
Thank god for Trump…he brings us all hope…but I won’t count my chickens..
Yup, there are lots who are more than willing to say hi and go about their way, very few times will they be willing to really help out or notice.
Uh huh. When I was 37 I took a 9 month sabbatical after receiving a huge compensation (company liquidated) and working for years non-stop. I discovered I hit a rare point in my life– I had both time AND money. Went home twice, traveled the world and did some crazy things. I also had insomnia and aimlessness that was eating me alive.
I eventually went back to work, found a woman worth marrying and had kids. Men need agency, but what that is depends on the man.
I think it is red pill rage, I probably need a few blue pills to counter balance or whatever..
Hey, focus on what you can control… your life, your son. Help him so he doesn’t have to go through the shit we’ve all been through.
And just remember… all the negative stuff you feel about your ex… she is still his mother. In his eyes, she will always be his mom and he will always need her and love her, just like he needs you and loves you.
Stop thinking of her as a woman. Stop thinking of her as you ex. Stop thinking about what she has done to hurt you.
Focus only on the fact that she is your son’s mother. Think about how you feel about your own mother. Focus on all the good things that your son’s mom has done in giving birth to him and being his mom. Anything bad you say about her or do to her… that will only hurt your son, which will hurt you.
So just focus on him, and don’t worry about her. If you have to deal with her, think of her only as your son’s mother. Treat her with the care and respect you would treat anyone that your son loves. Treat her the way you would want your son to treat your mother.
Yea but im terrified of marriage i have never seen a happily married person in my life, just misery, but not just that, I don’t want a woman telling me I can’t fuck other girls which is what men DO its NORMAL..but woman seem to not understand that shit they refuse to understand men at all and it grows old and im sick of woman never making an effort to truly understand men its absurd
Well its not a legal issue that’s preventing me from seeing my son, its that I have a set schedule, I live in Cambodia he lives in Philippines, I will see them soon, I video call them, but the mother pulled the “The spark has gone” bullshit so I was willing write them off after that…it really fucked with my head…so I replied to her “And now your gone” and blocked her messages from being able to reply.
Oof. I’ve heard Philippine women can be bitchy, but I’d never had an anecdote to match.
I think Ainigmaris Thales (no idea if I spelled that right) has it exactly right on this. I’m not saying it’s 100% of the issue, but at least a major part of you instinctively misses your son. It’s how we’re wired – we want to rear our young, to raise them up in the way they should go. And the firstborn son just about always means the most to his father, whether he wants that to be true or not (there are exceptions – my dad is second, but I think grandpa likes him best).
Well I wont be being nice to his mother thats for sure, the most she will get from me is my cock in her ass while I pull her hair and treat her like the plate she is.
I’m not telling you what to do, but I would say your son is the most important thing in this. Like I said in my other post on this, maybe putting aside the past between you and her, and just being civil to her out of respect for the fact that she is his mother, might be good for him to see.
Well I wont be being nice to his mother thats for sure, the most she will get from me is my cock in her ass while I pull her hair and treat her like the plate she is.
And actually I think she will come crawling back on her knee’s…but I will say no I don’t want to put up with mind games anymore. And I wont have a girl friend complain about me fucking other girls which is perfectly normal for most men..
The way I see it if a woman truly loves her man she will ENCOURAGE a man to fuck as many girls as possible.
I’m willing to bet you’ll be much happier as a person when you let go of all the bullshit that went on between you and her, and stop thinking of her as anything but your son’s mother. It will be healthier for you and for your son. Because she doesn’t matter in any way at all — except as his mother. Nothing she says or does or thinks — none of it matters…. the only thing that matters is your son and what’s best for him. And most kids do much better when they have two parents who can get along and work together enough to co-parent them.
“No one legitimately respects Kim”
Well, Rodman kinda does,
I am thinking that ILD might simply be trolling. No one is this dipshitty.
you need Jesus or Kratom.
That’s OK. My CZ 75 companion won’t let that happen.
I don’t care for sceamers; I prefer moaners.
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them Kratom. Are you not much more valuable than they? Will you not get even more Kratom?
Reminds me of a story Norm MacDonald Tells:
I once knew a man from Quebec. He was a man of great talent. But too often people with great talent go… unfulfilled. I knew this guy, he went by the name Jaques De Gatineau. Jaques was a great man. He was a thinker, a real smart guy, I guess you could say he was our hope. While I was scrambling to get out of highschool. Jaques De Gatineau, he was accepted to all the best universities and got three degrees. He was going to be the next great. There was Peter Leroux, Wilfred Pasteur, Jerome tsonga, the three wise men of quebec. Jaques De Gatineau was to be the next. But he vanished. So years pass, I started to travel and get around. I traveled from here to there, and to here again. So at one point in my life, I found myself at Sea World. And so I have a guy show me to where the baby dolphins are being feed, cause who doesn’t like baby dolphins? And guess who I saw! None other than Jaques De Gatineau! So I walk up to the guy, and I say “Jaques De Gatineau, I feel ashamed for you. You were our hope. You were to go to Canada’s capital of Ottawa. We pinned all of Quebec’s hopes onto YOU.” Now that’s a terrible burden, to have a town’s hopes pinned on him. So he’s feeding these little baby dolphins. And I say “I’m ashamed of you Jaques De Gatineau, you could have done so many great things.” And he said “well, I think I’m serving a youthful porpoise.”
Good choice. Had one of those once.
I traded it for a microphone.
Yeah, I think we all knew that. But Taignobias went Yoda and Ainigmaris Thales waxed deeply philosophical. Both of them wrote some good stuff that may benefit someone else, so it’s all good. But I did get a kick out of his “killing endangered species” schtick.
“I’ve heard Philippine women can be bitchy” which makes them different from all other women how? LOL!
Beautifully said!
“Women are like retarded little children who possess unlimited curiosity, while craving excitement to the point where they might eventually obliterate everything that is good in their lives; they would suck a donkey’s dick in front of a worldwide Internet audience, just to see what it’s like.” – Gandhi
Thankyou, now I feel less triggered.
My pleasure…
I always thought that was a Lincoln quote.
Hmm. Might have been. I didn’t Google it…
Careful, I believe it was Lincoln who said “many of the quotes attributed to me on the internet were not actually made by me.”
This one brought a tear to my cock
sounds painful
I’m speechless. Nicely done.
The whole office romance, amen to that. No need to complicate things in a very simple, straightforward life of ours.
Yes, generally true. Work environments can vary of course but most firms are sterile. You go there to make money and nothing else.
Also, these rules work out generally the same when you go to college now. Conform and keep your head down from the crazy leftists, don’t shit where you eat, and keep meticulous records against anything from false rape to thoughtcrime accusations. And get debt for the privilege. All this to me raises questions about whether you should go in the first place. http://masculineepic.com/index.php/2015/09/20/should-you-go-to-college/
Working in America sucks. Fuck that. I left when things were relatively good. Only 2 lousy weeks of vacation on top of that. If you want anything good, run your own business.
Only field where you work for someone else and have job security is government and healthcare. Work for a company you are a just a giant dildo.
Yes I hear its a living hell in America now, and woman are running the show…fuck that…im in the middle of Cambodia and I can smell the stench from here.
“Less is more”
That’s how I handle what I say/do in my corporate compliance job. It’s worked so far.
you’re LEAN
So red pill rage does exist…whats the cure?…alittle blue pill to balance things out?…Xanax buffet?…
Walking away usually fixes things. It’s hard to swallow lies when you see them for what they are, but you can distance yourself from both the lies and the harshness of reality for a time.
Some men go fishing every weekend or after work. Some men golf or shoot skeet. Some men go camping. Whatever it takes to detox.
Personally, while I was in the anger stage of the red pill (as we know, it tends to follow the stages of grief), I shut myself off from everyone and everything to focus on philosophy and introspection. It was a long summer, but a fruitful one as I emerged having reached acceptance.
accept your cubicle
Just so
as long as they let me read roK I’m fine
That reminds me, I learned not long ago that McDonalds’ wifi blocks RoK.
and probably starbucks too
faegs.
nah, the starbucks I go to I’ve been on ROK on their wifi
Don’t forget to fill up your TPS reports by Friday.

soul crushing.
That’s not the kind of corporate work I had in mind… Whew! Soul crushing indeed.
That’s it. I’m going to burn the building down.
Sadly, this isn’t so bad compared to THIS workplace. I’d hang out with Milton in the basement killing roaches compared to this any day:

More power to those who decide on a corporate job. This article will be helpful to you.
But in my humble opinion…fuck corporate America in the ear. It ruins men. You’ll be working around low T, beta male white knights and empowered femcunts.
You’ll either need to lack integrity or have a prescription for anti-depressants.
Enjoy.
There is much truth in what you say pale face. But it does depend on what you do in a corporation. In my case, being a tech, I got to do all kinds of interesting things like going through an air lock into an the containment building of an operating nuclear reactor. Climbing up the side of smokestacks and boilers to fix emissions monitoring equipment. Or travelling all over the country and even overseas, working on landfill gas and bio-gas systems. In those areas there are plenty of alphas around (mostly former GIs), few women (very few) and you can keep your integrity and you don’t need antidepressants. It’s not for everyone, but it’s certainly not a cubicle farm. I was never on that side of the house, but I think you pretty much summed it up from what I’ve seen.
A lot of this is true in life but a few clarifications are required from a corporate veteran. The author has some decent tips, they are mostly surface and stuff most people already know. I’m going to dive a bit deeper:
1) Don’t worry about the profit motive. Although that’s useful in terms of keeping your position around in general, pleasing your manager is number one priority. I’ve had my boss’s bosses hate me and want me fired but my manager recognized my value and kept me around. Profit is also secondary in that the primary goal of everyone at work is to make a profit FOR THEMSELVES. Of course, being profitable and pleasing everyone is a great thing but the bottom line is your immediate manager.
But note that this doesn’t mean necessarily making him happy. He just has to feel like he needs you. And yes, that is possible. More on this later.
Career limiting mouth: Doing precisely what your boss tells you won’t protect you no matter how much you document it. See rule 1 above. If your manager wants to blame you, he will and his managers will back it up since the chain-of-command overrules everything else (including profit, see above). I’ve had my boss tell me to do something one way that I knew didn’t work well and I bent the rules (carefully) and did it my way knowing it would be successful. If I had done it his way and failed, he’d have thrown me under the bus.
Writing Everything Down: This isn’t done to survive at the company but merely to avoid being fired with cause or to get a layoff package. It’s also useful in that if you do have a battle to make, you can win it. More again later.
Your skillset: It is your asset. Your company stock. It’s what you can always take out the door even if they make you take your shirt off your back on the way out (yeah, I heard of that actually happening to a pizza delivery guy). If you have a choice between working hard to make profits for the company or building up your skillset, you know which one to choose.
This all leads finally to: conformity.
Beta males think it’s safest because they see people hauled out and they’re driven by fear but this is also how sheep herders get all the cattle into the pen after being trained by the dogs.
Pick your battles and fight and win them and it’s sort of like prison (ironically, a guy who looks like he could be in prison was underneath that caption.) I go into a workplace standing out and when some b**** tries to eff with me, I have the documentation and skillset to put them into their place and the rest of the pack conforms. At times, I lost influence and I saw the pack turn on me but by then, it didn’t really matter. The bottom line is that if you try to be quiet you will get far, like a goat herder sort of, but if you want to reach the next level of success and it’s just a matter of time before some wolf picks you off to up his notch count.
You’ll have to take risks (albeit calculated ones.)
“Be nice to everyone you meet from the janitor to the CEO. Having a reputation as a nice guy is an asset. Always remember that the toes you step on today may be attached to the ass you have to kiss tomorrow.”
I wish that was so true but it’s not. Those who get ahead in this system are by definition ass kickers and they certainly don’t lose sleep over anyone they run over. If they do see someone they ran over as a superior report tomorrow, they expect that person to have run over others as well so it’s like a lawyer with sharks: professional courtesy. Only LOSERS in corporate America take things personally.
Nonetheless, I am nice to most people based upon my own system of respect but when it comes to loser douchebags trying to weigh me down, I have no problems kicking them down and surprisingly, they respect me for it more than the guys that are nice to them and take their ****.
The author left out one valuable tip: Get allies. Don’t be friends with everyone because there are as many cliques in the corporate workplace as high school. Identity the losers, dweebs and gangs and set up alliances accordingly. Some losers will be happy for your outreach and could possibly provide you with great intel and inroads into their own confidential network (after all, many losers aren’t total losers since they survived despite that appearance) and allies will stand with you in disputing claims regarding sexual harassment or to insecure management as to your value.
And finally, find your own niche. My advice and that of the author are merely perspectives. Like with PUA advice, what works is ultimately what’s best for your and your comfort level. Not everyone wants to spend most of their life at nightclubs practicing club game.
Good stuff PolishKnight. There’s a word limit so I left out a lot of stuff. The ground I was covering here was more geared to get your “thirty”, take the money and get out. I have always been on the technical side of the house, so the idea of climbing the corporate ladder was a dead letter for me. In my experience, it is unusual for anyone from maintenance or engineering to make it very far up the chain of command, especially if you are good at what you do. You are too valuable to promote. When I was still in nuclear power, I exceeded all my performance goals yet was passed over for promotion. This is consistent with your observation about being valuable to your boss.
When I finally pinned down the shop supervisor he was candid: “I can take any swinging dick in this shop and make him a first line supervisor. But there’s no one else that knows how to work on the [control system] and I need you right where you are.” What I did not realize at the time was I was one of the highest paid techs in the shop. They let me work whatever schedule I wanted and pretty much left me alone. I had the nicest equipment and two great guys doing most of the work for me.
So it was trade off. I was not just under a glass ceiling, I was in a fish tank albeit a very nice one. I wasn’t going anywhere. Ever. I ended up quitting because of that. I found out how valuable I was because they wanted to know how much retention bonus it would take to keep me. But I was beyond that. It was a matter of moral principle. People asked me on my way out “What are they gonna do when you leave?” I simply told them, “They will keep right on making electricity.” Guess what. I didn’t leave a hole.
Documenting everything also goes hand in glove with having allies. I made sure that I had good relationships with upper management at least to VP level if I could. I had one VP that would come to see me when there was a problem at our facility and ask me what I knew about the situation. He knew I would tell him straight up (see career limiting mouth, a.k.a. brutal honesty). My immediate supervisors would be pacing outside because he was getting the unvarnished truth and they knew it.
If I had a problem with one of them or another department, I (a) had it thoroughly documented and (b) always had allies in upper management. Consequently, when a first line supervisor ate out my ass one evening (in the presence of my coworkers) for something I didn’t do, I stood there and took it. On Monday morning I was in the plant manager’s office airing it out. That afternoon Mr. Get-In-Your-Face was on the carpet. I got a curt apology when he got back, he didn’t speak to me again for two weeks and never pulled that shit again. I have had several similar incidents over the years and always prevailed because of documentation, *allies* and a valuable skill set, so I really appreciate you bringing allies up. Very important indeed.
If I’d had more room, I would have clarified being a nice guy a little better. By that I meant to always be courteous, polite and helpful but don’t be a limp wristed mealy mouthed doormat.
No one respects that. You can be polite and professional while remaining firm and assertive. I’ve seen guys lose it, become very unprofessional and lose respect in a hurry. That goes back to your very valid point on picking your battles carefully. I am a whistle blower by nature and have done it more than once. As you pointed out, the documentation kept me from being fired in one case. But I was persona non grata after that I assure you.
In another case at a different company, they wanted to fire me so bad they couldn’t stand it, but had to lay me off “due to the economy” to avoid a nasty law suit. I even made HR give a letter stating that. Even though we all knew they were walking me out due to two lengthy letters I wrote to the VP of manufacturing and corporate HR (airing out all the dirty shit the locals were doing). Apparently the honchos didn’t want to know the truth. Which goes back to my point that if you want a Milquetoast existence in big bureaucracy to garner a pension, keep your head down and your mouth shut. You won’t go anywhere, but that’s all some folks want. I’ve seen plenty of men do it quite successfully, if you can call that success.
I think you’re a special case because you workplace required a specialized skill and your value was sufficiently high they didn’t dream of messing with you or most of the (skilled) Homer Simpsons in the plant. Unfortunately, in IT in particular and most of corporate America, it’s a lot more competitive. I must say that I envy you in that I dreamed of working in a nuclear power plant but settled for IT and while it has paid the bills, it can be a jungle.
In the case of much of business, they can leave holes and rarely get called out on it. I have amazing stories including 20 million dollars spent on Indian TATA consulting with nearly all of it wasted but no higher ups fired because they’re in bed together. They declared the project a success and moved on!
So my advice applies to where technical acumen and even basic decency and keeping one’s head down isn’t enough anymore. Perhaps it was for my father but no more. With the way modern performance reviews are set up in most firms, the quiet ones are eventually laid off simply because they are underperformers by definition. That’s right: NOT getting into trouble or exceptional reviews or allies means they are probably not doing anything important. Ironically, being a whistleblower for me helped my longevity because if a particular manager liked what I did with it then that helped keep me around. Ultimately, I sort of lost heart to stay in some places (see below) and didn’t want to stay there for my 30.
Sadly, sometimes the best thing to do is take a package and leave if only because the place becomes so miserable like a sinking ship the smart rats smell when it’s time to leave. Most of the former places I left either went under or became miserable when I left. That’s one of the most important pieces of advice out there: An exit strategy kind of like with women one is banging but you just don’t seem to get anything out of it anymore. A man shouldn’t wait for her to start burning his stuff before he gets her out and perhaps should start failing her shit tests so she says: “Oh, I think we should just be friends from now on!” and cuts him loose.
Generally speaking, it’s a different world out there when someone is in a trade or craft or profession where licensing is difficult to get and someone doesn’t want to engage in petty politics with you because they could have a mushroom cloud (or a flooded basement) if they don’t take you seriously. Generally, a plumber gets more respect from folks nowadays than a STEM worker with a master’s degree.
Oh man, IT! I feel your pain. That was exactly why I used IT as an example for my lead in on skills. I had a good friend that did some serious network development out of the I&C shop at one power plant where I worked. Local management loved him because he got things done on time and under budget. He was a natural and arrogant as hell about it too. But IT/IS hated his guts because he was showing them up (this was back in the IBM mainframe / Cobol / Fortran days, as we transitioned to PCs and Novelle Netware LANs) . They offered him a “sweet deal” to come to their side of the house. But I warned him it was a set up and they only wanted him there so they could cut his throat. He blew me off and took the job. He didn’t last three months and they fired him. He called me up and told me I was right, but it was too late then.
At my last job we had a sharp young college kid who worked summers for us as our network admin. He was focusing on coding, but was looking toward IT to pay the bills. I told him to learn PLC and HMI programming and VB for our applications. He took my advice and they snapped him up right after he graduated. He developed some serious automation apps for that employer and essentially made himself indispensable. If he left, they would be screwed…at least for a while. So I don’t know if I’m really a special case or not (there are quite a few I&C guys out there, just not quite enough). But I have always been in demand, so I know it’s a true niche.
The funny thing is nuclear power doesn’t pay as well as fossil does. It’s a highly specialized skill and they know your options are limited. On the fossil side, you can go anywhere and even move to places like chemical plants, oil refineries, pipelines, etc. At least for now…coal power is going the way of the Dodo bird, Trump or no Trump. So you’re right, I can probably get away with a lot more than the average corporate mercenary. But part of that is my personality and how I’ve played my cards. When someone would ask me about some stunt I’d pulled by going over my immediate supervisor’s heads, I’d warn them that what works for me won’t necessarily work for you. So maybe you’re right…maybe I am special…and riding the short bus to boot! Ha!
Hmmm, while I have you on the line, my wife has a chemical engineering degree from Ukraine but hasn’t used it in 18 years. Do you have any guys there who can advise what she can do with ti? For now, she’s doing QA IT work which is ok but I’d still like to see if it has any use. She’s also shooting for a social media analyst job with the CIA/FBI (read Putin’s troop’s facebook posts and get an idea of what they’re up to. Yeah, people post all kinds of great stuff when they’re drunk.)
‘night
I really don’t have any contacts with respect to chemical engineering. That would apply more in the petro-chemical industry and my contacts are primarily in utilities with a few in manufacturing hard goods. Having not used her Chem Eng qualifications in 18 years is definitely a problem. It’s possible she might be able to land a plant chemist job at a utility, so she should check into it. I believe they look more for a chemistry degree rather than Chem Eng, but I will ask our plant chemist tomorrow and get back to you.
She should be in high demand for intelligence / social media analysis if she speaks fluent Russian though. Probably worth at least six figures and there may very well be private sector work for her too depending on your location. The gun-vermin aren’t the only ones vacuuming up information. I know what you say is true, because people tell me all kinds of stuff when they’re drunk (and some of it is actually true). I’ve had acquaintances in the past that posted crap on fakebook that landed them in the HR hot seat. This is why I don’t do fakebook. Have a great night!
I’m about to drive three hours to interview for a maternity leave contract job selling fertiliser to sheep and beef farmers. One year of getting regular pay, driving back country roads listening to e books, and having my writing to myself rather than as a media contractor. I have a sweetener at the end of the journey which will help me act positive and excited during the interview, but I know exactly what’s ahead – a bunch of unimaginative dickheads burning their integrity at the alter of their pathetic ambition.
Thanks for letting me get it off my chest; now to dive into the swamp.
Martin, look at the bright side. Driving back country roads beats the hell out of sitting in a cubicle. I used to drive back roads just to relax and think. Best wishes to you in this endeavor.
NEVER, EVER, EVER!!!! be a whistle blower. Your life will be destroyed!! You may end up in jail. You will probably contemplate suicide. In short, you are finished. Plan to move far away and forget about your family. DON’T DO IT!!!!!
I agree with writing everything down. Purchase a small recorder and start recording (the hell with laws!!!). Catching these two faced pricks lying is pure joy! Better yet, go back and listen to the conversations, catch the inflection in their voice, their breathing, their silent pauses. They won’t know how you remember things, but you will remember through reviewing the evidence. If you have a journal to write in, don’t keep it at work. I keep small 5×7 index cards at the ready or I get on a computer and start typing points while things are still fresh in my mind. I have already started a table of occurrence for my current job. I was back stabbed on the first day of work and the HR creeper was around asking me about my back condition. Forewarned is forearmed!!!!!
Excellent article Brother Boothe! Your points are very valid and they can’t seem be repeated enough. I always enjoy your posts, and it’s nice to see commenters given the opportunity to write articles – it lends credibility. More business-related articles would be a nice addition, especially for the younger fellas trying to get a foothold.
I love this one… “Don’t get your honey where you make your money” – I’ve witnessed this far too many times in the past, and it will bite you in the ass every time. A Piece of Ass is Never worth risking your career over… So much of this also comes down to self-discipline and focus, which, from what I‘ve witnessed in the last decade or so, is terribly lacking. These principles will not only help you survive and succeed within the corporate culture, but they’re highly valuable should you decide to leave the corporate world and go on your own.
For me, being an independent thinker; having to conform was always a challenge, which is one of the main reasons I left the corporate world in late 2005, started a construction business and never looked back.
I wish every man here the very best in their conquest of the business world!
Thanks for the kudos Lou! I’m already working on my next piece, that is if Roosh will still have me…
You’re very welcome my friend! If I find the time, I would love to submit a business-related article myself. This is a great platform and I don’t think we’ve even scratched the surface in terms of potential here…
” I want you to sparkle. ” – my boss.
There are more unspoken rules than spoken rules, even with a mentor ‘telling you like it is’. You can ‘survive’ which may mean being in the top 5% or 10% of U.S. household incomes (not a bad way to live); or even thrive with ongoing advancements in pay and responsibilities. Eventually you’ll age-out of the corporate world and become a realtor or mortgage broker. So you better off skipping college and going straight to the realtor job.
Or “consultant.”
