China’s Social Credit System Copies A Video Game To Enact Systemic Totalitarianism

Long ago, I remember playing a game called Final Fantasy 12. It was an role-playing game with great visuals, but one peculiar thing I noticed was a certain obstacle later in the game. When you arrive at The Imperial City of Arcades, an advanced society reserved only for the upper class, you find that you are unable to take a taxi to access the more exclusive areas privileged for the elite and royalty unless you have earned enough “Chops”, which was basically social credit system that signified that you were an “upstanding citizen of the Empire”. It was carried as a mark of high status, a writ to transit. The alternative was to pay a sum of a million Gil (money) just to get a ride.

So instead of being able to continue directly on your journey, you are sidetracked on a silly sub-quest where you have to run around and talk to strangers to see whether they have any problems you can help them with. Tasks range from remembering and repeating tales, fetching tools, and so on. The whole thing was unnecessary, and very stupid. I remember shaking my head hoping such a system never happens in the real world. Well, that fear has now come true in 2018.

China’s Social Credit System

High-tech communism has arrived in Rongcheng, China, as they have launched a social credit system which gives citizens points for following the law and doing “good deeds”. If they fail to obey, they lose points, if they conform, they earn points which can qualify them to receive perks such as renting public bikes free for a while, Winter heating discounts, and better rates on bank loans. Businesses can also get good scores for paying taxes on time.

By 2020, the government plans to roll out a full blown national social credit system, and this has given rise to fears of losing personal freedoms. According to the system’s founding document, released by the State Council in 2014, the scheme should “allow the trustworthy to roam everywhere under heaven while making it hard for the discredited to take a single step.”

A report titled China 2030, written by government officials of The Development Research Center of the State Council, the People’s Republic of China, and The World Bank says, “the government will need to transform itself into a lean, clean, transparent and highly efficient modern government that operates under the rule of law.” It discusses everything from minimum wage, to patent filing. This document openly expresses the totalitarianism planned by the Chinese government. It is all part of a massive social experiment to rank and monitor citizens.

Just like how you are evaluated based on your FICO score, in China they are also judged on their social credit score. The government says it is being done to increase the “trustworthiness” of people in the country.

When Social Credit Goes Wrong

As humans, we all go through our emotions and sometimes say things we don’t really mean. Online however, whatever is said becomes permanently recorded in digital history, and when a customer leaves a bad review, some owners can take it too far. In one case, an owner traveled 850km to beat up the woman who gave his business a negative review, because it costed him 12 points on Alibaba’s system.

This system in China takes it much further. If you get a traffic ticket, you lose five points. If you commit “heroic” acts, do good business, and help others who are in tough circumstances, you can get 30 points. You can also earn credit by donating to charity or volunteering for the city’s program.

He Junning, the deputy director of the Rongcheng Social Credit Management Office, said, “anything that influences your points needs to be backed by official facts with official documents.” People can receive grades ranging from A+++ to D. Things like drunk driving, however lowers your score to a C.

For people like Yu Guanqing, it is making his life much harder to apply for a house loan as “It’s too troublesome.” China has been trying such tactics since the communist take over, but now they have launched this microcosm which could very well be the model of what may come in the near future.

  1. It’s just anti China propaganda based on new credit scoring systems created by private companies and startups in a giant country that had no such things so far.
People in China are much more free than Europeans, hence the massive need for propaganda.
Barriers of entry for small time entrepreneurship are extremely low to non existent in most parts of China. You won’t ever have to visit a welfare office where some feminist harpie calls you a useless failure at life and forces you to apply for jobs that barely pay the bills and any taxes you pay get used to pay for your 3rd world rapefugee replacements.
Demonized employers like Foxcon actually pay pretty well and give workers free housing. Murica’s working poor would kill for such employment options. The west has become upskill or fade into a miserable existence pretty much, while China offers more than one track to a middle class life.

    1. Eh, I think you are the one exaggerating. There is a reason many rich Chinese try to immigrate away from that place. Socially they may seem freer to the average normie walking on the street, but from a government perspective they are VERY un-free. Ironically, The fact that feminist harpies are allowed to exist is a sign of freedom. China also has a notorious problem with local government being corrupt. The central government might be “enlightened” to a certain degree and it might be doing the best job it can, but local governments (police, etc) are really bad in china…so I’ve heard.

      1. The wealthy just want to run away because they did shady shit to get all that cash. Nobody gets wealthy by playing by the book in China.
Better to have a backup citizenship when the tides turn against them.
The less wealthy just do it for the international experience and previously higher salaries but those are quickly adjusting as well in Shanghai and Beijing.

      2. So, exactly how are we freer?
Yeah, the haters on the left can scream any calumny of us they wish…..but you cant.
Chinese have restrictions we dont, but they dont give a flying rip about gays, 42 genders and ginned up racism. They just want to go about their lives. But you cant do that here.
One day, when America is a pit with the last of the prehistoric savages killing each other, the last of us will be living in China and Russia.

    2. Fuck you Larry Simmons Chinese agent of Death. Fuck the jews while we are at it…

    3. “allow the trustworthy to roam everywhere under heaven while making it hard for the discredited to take a single step.”
Was in China last year, it was a strange place, but I didn’t notice any lack of freedom. Could wander around wherever I liked, nobody was watching, following or checking up on me.
I have to agree with Larry, this story is anti-China propaganda.
Much more freedom than in the UK or Europe IMHO.

      1. John, the Chinese surveillance systems are the best in the world. They can identify you and monitor you in real time. They also record your movements and can track you back in time.
So, if you’re a political dissident, or the government decides you are a dissident, you have no freedom and everyone you come in contact with is suspect.
But sure, if you’re a good citizen and you never run afoul of anyone with influence, you really are free.

        1. Muh political dissidents.
Politics in the west are a shit show run by j*wish elites / the 1% which are largely interchangeable. You can vote between trash and garbage and anyone truly dangerous gets his life ruined by (((them))).
Democracy never works in the long run. The not so communist one party rule works best for China.

        2. LARRY
This post reminds why enjoyed Dubai so much. Nobody there complains about Jews-rightly or wrongly.
          “Ruin your life”.
Most dumb white hicks fuck their own life up and the Jews merely make a load of money off it-as lawyers representing stupid white trash who cannot sell drugs without getting caught, drink without getting a DUI, fuck without owing child support; as pornographers for thirsty Gen Y; distributing films that stupid Anglos pay to see.
Mexicans do the rest with drugs.

        3. LARRY
Jews are more clever about than Chinese in Philippines or Indonesia.
Thus far in the US we have not had a situation like the one after Suharto died.
The Chinese are pretty stupid about it-I dealt with Chinese-Filipinos.

      2. JOHN
China’s middle class is growing much faster than Americas. That is for sure.
SJW in China? I’ve heard them say some racist things.
Monitors? Well if you are not a criminal than what difference does it make if you are on camera?

      3. Key phrase, “was in China.”
If you’re stuck there, it’s a whole different ballgame.
They live in a COMMUNIST system. I think people may have forgotten that. A social points system is merely a level of communal collectivisim that serves “The People,” not the individuals that make up The People. Let’s not confuse China’s recent economic awakening, which mimics capitalism, confuse the rest of the social and political picture in China.

        1. Your laissez-faire capitalist bullshit grinds my gears.
China is literally run by an elite class of billionaires. The only difference between them and us is that the state is designed in such a way to benefit each class rather than one class at the expense of another.
This is pure Western neoliberal propaganda. The same kind that permeates a lot of the Hong Kong “pro-democracy” (i.e globalist capitalist tyranny) protests.

    4. In day to day living, the Chinese are free from many of petty, pissant laws that bedevil the West. You really are as free to do as you like in many areas, so much so that coming back to North America is to step into oppression.
Political freedom? Nope. None. You only have the freedom to praise the Central Government and not bring attention to the corruption that exists at all levels.
You have zero religious freedom, unless you support one of the state sponsored and approved religious groups.
You are free to have as many children as you like, as long as it is 1, or 2 in some special case, or more than 2 if you can afford the fines.
Welfare freedom? No welfare of any kind, so you’re technically correct
Oh sure, China does some things right, but at the cost of violently suppressing any form of dissent. And with this new social credit system, they’ll be able to apply soft pressure as well to make everyone self censor themselves. Brilliant.
The Chinese system works well enough for the Chinese and God knows I’d never want to try to manage the problems they face, but it would be an absolute disaster if implemented on us unruly Westeners.

      1. >not bring attention to the corruption that exists at all levels.
anti corruption is much stronger enforced these days
internet users regularly get corrupt local officials with flashy watches and cars or suspiciously wealthy relatives gulag’d
the big pinata days are over and if you didn’t have your share a few years ago you won’t have the chance to get it anymore

        1. Not really.
If you’re supported by the right people, your corruption goes unpunished and those that report you suffer the consequences.
Corruption is endemic to the culture.

    5. This article isn’t consistent with what I learned in my Femenist underwater basket weaving class at UC Berkeley.

    6. The Chinese government takes foreign businesses. Many a foreigner leave China empty handed. The Chinese have close to zero ethics.

      1. They don’t want to be a western colony, they want to be the colonizers.
High level politics and business are shrewd shrewd shrewd. Only the western sheeple class believes in playing fair and square while your daughter gets raped by pakis that were invited over on behalf of the j*wish elites and your son won’t even be able to afford a studio apartment if he isn’t a top 10% earner.
I have been in China on and off for a long time and I never got involved in running a local biz as it was all in plain sight to see that everything was stacked against you as a foreigner.
The only ones that came out ahead married into the right families.

        1. I had a run-in with a Chinese-Filipino I fired in the Philippines.
Chinese really run amok there-the US is essentially protecting Chinese interests in the Philippines.
Notice that none of the Chinese making Shabu are killed in the drug war.

        2. LARRY
If the Jews and the Chinese reached some sort of cooperation as the Chinese-Filipinos have with land-owning Spanish mestizos the average white prole will end up being like the average Filipino.

      2. Your individual rights and the over all system of laws that the government can change arbitrarily if they don’t like you. And when they don’t like you they take your kidneys, corneas and gold teeth.
That is a whole other ball game than pussy pedestal laws in the US, which are well defined and has due process. It is up to you to get red pilled though.

    7. I’d rather be a working class European than a Middle Class Chink living in a glorified 100-storey battery-hen unit any time.

  2. Yeah, well. It’s all fucked anyway. Why not get a free bike ride thrown in when it happens.

  3. “Long ago, I remember playing a game called Final Fantasy 12.”
The 10th installment of that series was the last truly great game before I pretty much called it quits. Then they started created fap fan-boy feminist titles like X-2, XIII, and the gameplay and stories just got dull despite the pretty visuals.
6 and 7 were the apex of the series without question, and this now goes back 20-24 years ago. The remake of 7 is gonna be a huge disappointment I’ll bet as well. It looks like they are removing the strategic elements for mindless button mashing.

  4. There’s an youtube chanell – advchina – which gives a very good picture on the pros and cons of China.
From what I have seen so far … I’ll pass.

  5. I wonder if a citizen of China can ever become so good and trustworthy that he can own a gun….
    Maybe a night out with a high-price hooker….
Or a bag of his favorite ganja!

      1. walker
        Prostitutes-they are China’s greatest export
Bag-China is the mass exporter of crystal meth.

        1. My last visit to China, (Shenzen) our tour guide practically bragged about all the prostitutes at night, due to the gender imbalance from One-Child, and divorce.
Cant verify because I was with my wife.

  6. Chinese government = Chinese police = Chinese mafia = Crime, corruption and protection of criminals
I can’t foresee any problems that may arise with this system.

    1. JIZM
Well it is one of the poorest countries in the world with an urban/rural division that makes the one between LA and Alabama look insignificant by comparison.

  7. i’ll bet if you cut off someone’s head for religious reasons that would really lower your score.

  8. That’s mental slavery for you. Errors will be made with all this Black Mirror stuff, it’s a flawed system…think about all the ways it will be manipulated or hacked, plus all the false positives this surveillance tool is going to churn out. And the social credit mandate is just one facet of a larger system — SKYNET (yes, these fucking dorks couldn’t stop themselves from naming it after “The Terminator” panopticon):
    https://news.cgtn.com/news/79676a4e31637a6333566d54/share_p.html
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4918342/China-installs-20-million-AI-equipped-street-cameras.html

They’re calling it “Tianwang,” literally translated to “Skynet.” Why would anyone name their project after Skynet? This tracking/analyzing matrix is now baked into the Chinese infrastructure…

As globalism creeps in and seeks to dismantle some of our classic American freedoms, don’t be surprised when the NSA upgrades to mandating an RFID under your skin and a digital microscope up your proverbial ass.

    1. OCEAN
      “Globalism”
Open borders means you can go where you want, when you want, how you want. That is the positive side of things.
If I was told this would happen to me, I’d move somewhere else the next day. And in my corner of the world there is no money to do this.

    2. OCEAN SON
Before that happens the reality of war between China and the US and Muslims in Europe is going to reveal cracks in globalization.

  9. Oh and let me guess China should let the jewboys from Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley set up shop so their people can be virtual debt slaves? After which China should “open”‘ its media to Hollywood Jews so its people can become morally corrupt. If that’s freedom, you can go fuck yourself. Keep democracy and freedom to yourselves especially if it comes under the auspices of a Jew offering them to you.

  10. Rongchang? Fucking where? After a Google search it’s apparently the Chinese city closest to North Korea, ergo it’s a harebrained money making scheme from an uneducated banana republic mayor.

  11. It’s “a role-playing game” not “an role-playing game ”
Even a good argument can be frowned upon if you have bad spelling

  12. The social credit system does not bother me AT ALL.
This is my 6th year living in China, I’ve also lived in South Korea, Thailand, Russia, & Vietnam.
The problem with being in a place that is so “free” is that other people do whatever the fuck they want, all the time, with little to no regard for YOU! Driving badly while smoking and texting and carrying 20 chickens. Doing construction on a neighboring apartment at 3 am. Spitting and smoking everywhere. Cutting in line. Talking insanely loudly on the phone anywhere and everywhere. Playing phone games or watching a show with the volume all the way up with no thought of using headphones.
Seriously, people act like total cunts. It’s enough to make you scream. They are raised to care about their immediate family and their immediate family only. Everyone else can just go to hell. Nobody calls anyone else out on what they’re doing wrong because no one wants to “lose face.”
Poor behavior should have consequences. The police generally do jack squat.
People do whatever they want here. They really do. It’s super free. And sometimes it is much to my chagrin.

  13. ..until you get a bad social credit for not being a feminist or bad credit for getting accused by woman of anything.
    it WILL happen.
for governments.. it is a genious system.

  14. Just like in the TV show “Black Mirror”, episode “Nosedive” Season 3 Episode 1
