Why You Should Be Thankful For “Girl Power” Songs

This catchy Pink song is about her breaking up with a long-term boyfriend. These types of girl power songs have at least two of the following three components:

1. How she was a great girlfriend.
2. How he wasn’t that good of a man.
3. How easily she was able to move on.

Here’s component two of the Pink song:

I won’t miss all of the fighting that we always did,
Take it in, I mean what I say when I say there is nothing left
No more sick whiskey dick, no more battles for me

And now component three. Take a look into how she’s going to get over a man she obviously loved:

I’ll dress nice, I’ll look good, I’ll go dancing alone
I will laugh, I’ll get drunk, I’ll take somebody home

Pink is telling impressionable young girls that if things don’t work out with your man, to dress hot, get drunk, and quickly sleep with another guy. Who does that benefit? Men looking for easy sex! We need to encourage the idea that the best way to get over a boyfriend is to bang a lot of guys.

Taylor Swift had a similar song. Take a look:

We are never ever ever getting back together
We are never ever ever getting back together
You go talk to your friends, talk to my friends, talk to me (talk to me)
But we are never ever ever ever getting back together

Does having more single women on the dating market make it easier or harder for men to meet women? Easier. All these songs that promote dumping men in favor of freedom should be embraced by those men who like casual dating. So don’t judge me when I’m blasting Pink—I’m doing it to benefit men.
