Another Overreaction Over Race Leads To The Dismissal Of ESPN’s Colin Cowherd

On Friday afternoon, ESPN announced that their #1 radio talk show host, Colin Cowherd, would be taken off the air because of his comments regarding the educational system in the Dominican Republic. They mistakenly listened to the outraged masses who took his comments as a racial slur demeaning the intelligence of Major League Baseball players that hail from the small country in the Caribbean.

Here’s how it happened:

Thursday morning as I was driving to a local 7-Eleven listening to The Herd with Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio when the host, Colin Cowherd, dropped this little nugget:

It’s baseball. You don’t think a general manager can manage? Like it’s impossible? The game is too complex? I’ve never bought into that, ‘Baseball’s just too complex.’ Really? A third of the sport is from the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic has not been known in my lifetime as having world-class academic abilities. A lot of those kids come from rough backgrounds and have not had opportunities academically that other kids from other countries have.

As soon as he said it I chuckled to myself: “Well that’s gonna piss a few people off.” But after that I never gave it a second thought because a) Cowherd was already on his way out having signed a new contract with Fox Sports and just playing out the string with ESPN and b) I knew he didn’t insult anybody.

Well I was wrong about the latter. Usually I can see faux outrage coming but this one blindsided me to be sure. The first person to stoke the flames of Colin’s “racist rant” was Toronto Blue Jays Outfielder, Jose Bautista who is Dominican.

Bautista

What followed was the usual incredulous overreaction to a comment that was not only not racist, but 100% true. The Dominican Republic does have a shitty educational system, and Cowherd simply pointed out that if Dominican players who come to this country with fifth grade educations can dominate baseball, then baseball isn’t as complex as these so-called baseball “purists” would lead you to believe. It’s as simple as that.

Cowherd was back on the air on Friday and addressed the controversy head on, as is his M.O. He stated that a number of people had reached out to him for clarification of his comments the day before including ESPN Columnist and television personality, Israel Gutierrez, who is of Dominican descent.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYeplpTZhDQ

He even called on Jose Bautista himself to come on air with him to discuss the issue with him directly. I wasn’t able to listen to the whole program but as far as I know, neither Gutierrez or Bautista made an appearance on The Herd. That didn’t stop Cowherd from clarifying his remarks on air:

…I don’t think I should be defined by 16 seconds of a minute rant edited on a site owned by a blog company currently in a hundred million dollar law suit for airing improprer audio and video tape…

…I’m not here to double down. But I think I have a right to run the entire tape.

…can we stop with the “I don’t get the sport because it’s too complex?”

…I don’t think I have to be Steven Hawking to understand baseball

He later added that sometimes his tone stinks and that he gets that. But he clarified that we are lucky to be in America, whereas Dominicans are unlucky to hail from a country with economic strife which creates educational hurdles.

There isn’t so much as a hint of a racial undertone in his narrative, yet, headlines from sea to shining sea read “Cowherd fired because of racist comments about Dominicans.”

The difference between “uneducated” and “stupid”

The sad truth is that people throw around the word racism any time anyone uses a group of people from a different race as an example to make a broader point. If I were white, and said that “black people aren’t as educated as white people in this country” there’s no doubt in my mind that I’d be met with the usual lynch mob calling me a racist and that I called black people stupid.

But if people would take a minute, read between the lines, and show some temperance in squeezing the race trigger, they’d realize that I didn’t call black people stupid, but rather said they are simply less educated.

And therein lies the disconnect. There is a huge difference between uneducated and stupid. A college degree doesn’t make someone smart anymore than the lack of a degree makes one stupid.

Having this doesn’t make you smart

Case in point: I worked for a mattress company in Atlanta before coming west. My job was to drive a 24′ box truck and drop mattresses off at various warehouses around  the city. The man I worked for was nothing short of brilliant. His business acumen, attention to detail, and rock solid frame earned my respect very quickly. To this day, I’ve never worked for anyone as smart as this guy.

His education level? He dropped out of high school after his sophomore year and never went back for his GED.

I’m a pretty sharp guy who went to college and fashion myself a pretty intelligent individual, and it has nothing to do with my education. I still don’t hold a candle to the high school dropout I worked for in the ATL. Not even close.

The point is that Cowherd didn’t call Dominicans dumb, he called them uneducated. There is a difference. SJWs should all be smart enough to know the difference before they stupidly start calling for people’s jobs.

The truth hurts

It’s silly that SJWs and Dominicans have lost their minds over a statement that rings true. Forney recently pointed out that remarks don’t piss people off unless there’s a measure of truth to that statement:

if you feel shamed over something, it’s an indicator that whatever you’re being shamed for is something you hate about yourself and want to change.

The hard truth is the Dominican Republic ranks extremely low in educational ratings worldwide. They score extremely poorly on any objective measurement of education or human development, making Cowherd’s statement spot-on. People aren’t beating down the doors to the D.R. to get into any prestigious schools on the island, and that’s a fact.

American children will never have to attend class in a shipping container.

Dominicans are outraged and upset because they know Colin’s statement rings true. Yes, the poor economy presents educational challenges to Dominican residents. Yes, those challenges translate into Dominicans coming to the U.S. uneducated and yes, this means they don’t have the book smarts we have in the U.S.

All of this is true even if it seems impolite to point out and unfortunately for Cowherd he stepped into the truth landmine and it blew up in his face.

Can anyone be honest anymore?

It’s clear that pundits in this country can’t present truths without their statements being taken out of context and characterized as racist, sexist, or intolerant of the LGBTXYZABCLMNOP community. The “racist” trope even comes out when the person is not talking about a race!

The reason for is simple: They’re afraid of retribution by their corporate overlords. Nobody’s trying to get fired and lose those fat salaries and generous bonuses over a 30-second sound bite.

I touched on this very element a while back:

Now I understand that men in the media have to fall in line with the feminist agenda in public. Their livelihood depends on it.

…Feminism hadn’t infiltrated sports media on this level when most of the notable journalists, media members, and sports anchors started so I’m not going to pass judgment on men who have to toe the line in order to continue making a living.

Often leading the charge for these fake controversies is limp-wristed SJW pussy Craig Calcaterra, who regularly makes a name for himself (and trolls for page views) by white-knighting for all of the precious, blameless damsels in distress out there.

What else could you expect from a man parroting corporation-approved, equalist, feel-good pretty lies like these:

Anyone who simply says, out of hand, that there is no way a woman can play major league baseball competitively is just guessing. And, in all likelihood, voicing some level of prejudice, be it conscious or subconscious. Because the fact of the matter is we have no idea how women, in numbers, stack up. As Emma Span noted in her excellent New York Times piece back in June, girls and women are systematically steered away from playing baseball. The fact that a small handful play is neat, but it’s totally useless as a predictor for how they’d do if there was organized instruction and play for women that produced a critical mass of women baseball players from which the professional leagues could scout.

This woman would never fuck Calcaterra because of his “courage.” And she’ll also never play shortstop for the Mets.

Calcaterra and other similarly liberal SJWs with white guilt coming out of their pores are consistently falling over themselves to build their street cred on stupid throwaway statements like the one Cowherd made on Thursday. All this does is keep the narrative one-sided.

What did we learn?

Not much. While Cowherd’s dismissal is a bit of a eyebrow-raiser given the circumstances of his impeding departure from ESPN for Fox Sports, its not surprising that his remarks earned him an early vacation.

I’ve said before the Colin Cowherd is easily one of the most talented sports talk radio hosts in the country so I can’t imagine that Fox Sports would reprimand him, or tear up his newly signed contract over something that the public at large will forget about in 48 hours (or less).

That said, I’ve been wrong before.

  1. I’ve said before the Colin Cowherd is easily one of the most talented sports talk radio hosts in the country so I can’t imagine that Fox Sports would reprimand him, or tear up his newly signed contract over something that the public at large will forget about in 48 hours (or less).

I wouldn’t be too sure about that. Men have been thrown under the SJW-shortbus for much less than Colin’s offhand(and 100% true) comment.

  2. Sports are for idiots.
Seriously, who would waste their time watching other people having fun and making millions? An idiot would.
Fuck sports and anyone who watches it is a fucking idiot. Fucking braindead meathead stupid fuck.

    1. Ha ha. I hear you. I wish I could walk away from it but I want black America to have SOME value since my taxes have paid for all of their meals. I want to get some return for all of that food/clothing/shelter that I’ve purchased for our beloved high melanin children. I enjoy some sports, i must admit. But I hear you. The best version of me does not watch a bunch of twenty somethings play children’s games. Stay your course. You’re doing what’s right.

      1. Who in their right mind sits behind the TV watching other people play for millions when they could easily get off their ass and PLAY the sport, while enjoying its benefits?
Unfortunately, this is true especially of younger generations, who may be good players for their high school teams but would rather be watching the Rangers game that will never matter to them several years later in their lives.

        1. In my day they use to play video games, now the kids watch other people play video games on youtube. Confuses the hell out of me, the controller is only 3 feet away.

      2. Given the vast majority of welfare goes to corporations you are watching the wrong sport.

  3. I see this kind I shit in Toronto every single day. Our newspapers are saturated with it, commercials, social media bombardment, and as soon as you question anything you are a social outcast.
It forces me to wonder how it can be so easy for the majority of people to buy into this shit. Am I a madman with delusional ideas?
What that coach said was completely clear. He wasn’t bullying those people, he’s just saying you don’t need a phd to understand baseball. Get a grip.
A blue pill MLB player ratting out a coach for making a statement that might have sounded a little off if you read into it too much.
Why call out the coach on social media? If you had a problem with what he said, why not contact him and sort it out? Bautista wouldn’t have said shit if he didn’t have an entire SJW city backing up his childish attack.

    1. I read last week some guy — I think in Toronto — lost his job and jail time for disagreeing with feminists online. Apparently the feminists claimed “harassment” and successfully got his employer to can him after concocting a bogus harassment case which the authorities took up.
I know feminists are endeavoring to make questioning of their “stats” or views a criminal offense. Years ago we would have laughed at this idea. Yet here we are. People are losing their jobs (and now facing jail time) for daring to speak the truth. This present day insanity is occurring courtesy of spineless companies like ESPN who immediately give in to the slightest grievance brought on by these Social Justice Wankers.

      1. Exactly right.
If you simply ask questions it can be deemed harassment.
The only reason Toronto functions is because we are importing poor foreigners to work and rich foreigners to buy real estate. The natives are just useful idiots for the politicians.
Toronto can rot in hell. My real fear is that this stupidity is spreading around the world.

        1. “The only reason Toronto functions is because we are importing poor foreigners to work and rich foreigners to buy real estate’
I think this needs to be extended to the US…and England….and australia…

        2. I’m sure you probably know that the same goes for Vancouver. I have this feeling that the Canadian economy is going to be in big trouble when all these would be immigrants wise up and realize Canada offers them very little opportunity aside from fast food and hotel cleaning staff. The Canadian government is desperate to beef up the tax base to keep all its broke social programs going for the next generation that is already paying into them. Like any good Ponzi scheme the only way to do it is with more and more people. Nobody moves to Canada for the great weather and interesting culture, they come here for high wages and “free” medical. Now that it’s all drying up and costs for everything are through the roof, people are looking elsewhere or just staying put in their own country where they can increasingly live a simple, comfortable life. I hate to admit it, but Canada needs poor immigrants just to keep the ball rolling.

        3. You can only run a country on money laundering and real-estate speculation for so long.

      2. Dude, that’s pretty scary.
At least in the States we have the 1st Amendment…/sarcasm

  4. That is the tactic to make good bad and flip society. The truth cannot be tolerated, one must walk through a mine field to say anything. And when men are afraid to say the truth the lynch mob rules and it’s even more sensitive becuase it can start on with a guy typing a tweet over the toilet. It doesn’t matter what was actually said if it offended someone other people automatically are offended for that person and demand blood. And firing is only the start, like watch how that cop In Texas gets charged for manslaughter even though he didn’t make her commit suicide. The county will cave, our president has appeased the mob to much making rioting a useful tool. You are looking at the start of a reign of terror. Where overly sensitive people hold the power

    1. The Cop in Texas was an Asshole, and never should have let the situation escalate to the point he escalated it too. She should never had been arrested. He could have handled it a lot better, and no one would be dead. This is a basic between how Blacks and Whites see the Police. Whites say she brought this on herself, and I have been Military Police, and I say, No she did not.

      1. Even if he de-escalated that whole situation, she would have kept coming at that officer the way she did. You know how to find Huff Post right?

        1. yeah, right,…sheeple…you give a Policeman a little grief, and you deserve to die..?? Or is that only for Blacks..? I’ve been a Policeman in the Military, and this was totally unnecessary…I suppose you think she was a threat to him, and remember this was only a Traffic stop..NOT a Felony stop.

      2. We are just going to have to disagree because she didn’t have to react the way she did. I felt as if he was really was in the right, cops have stopped me before and acted worse I just remained cooperative and made it home. He didn’t break the law at al

        1. There’s no law which says she has to put down cigarette or a cop can arrest solely based on not liking ones attitude. Her crime was failing to use a signal which only warrants ticket.
Besides seeing people get fired courtesy of the PC Police, it’s also alarming to see people’s RIGHTS being denied and trampled on by police arresting or killing when they dislike one’s tone.
The last time I was pulled over was like 12 years ago and like you, I was respectful and recognized what I did. But imagine being respectful to the cop and him being an ass, escalating a non-threatening situation. Knowing my rights and the law, I too would develop an arrogant attitude and not comply with his unlawful requests.
Frankly I’m sick of people saying folks should just ignore their constitutional rights and comply. It’s no different than SW states unlawfully demanding CITIZENS of US crossing state lines show ID and telling where they’re going. Love those guys who record this crap and exercise their rights knowing there’s NO LAW which warrants cops to engage in such behavior.

        2. “The last time I was pulled over was like 12 years ago and like you, I was respectful and recognized what I did. But imagine being respectful to the cop and him being an ass, escalating a non-threatening situation. Knowing my rights and the law, I too would develop an arrogant attitude and not comply with his unlawful requests.”
When you encounter a cop everything is stacked on the cop’s side until you are in the system and can lawyer up, if you “develop an arrogant attitude and [do] not comply” to what you feel are unlawful requests, well then you’re asking for a beating or death over something trivial.

        3. So your idea is to allow COPS to engage in unlawful acts and to comply when you know they’re unconstitutional.
          Fuck. That.
Any COP who thinks they have OK to beat me after respectfully excercising my Constitutional Rights is going to welcome their jurisdiction to a nice big lawsuit.

        4. “Any COP who thinks they have OK to beat me after respectfully excercising my Constitutional Rights is going to welcome their jurisdiction to a nice big lawsuit.”
Well, now you changed your tune to “respectfully” rather than, “I too would develop an arrogant attitude and not comply with his unlawful requests.”
Maybe if you’re black or some other protected class then you (or your family at least) could win the ghetto lottery if you get yourself beaten/killed that way. If you’re say “white” then there are different rules and nobody will be rioting if you end up dead or beaten and/or ruined by a criminal record:
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lRWoThpv8s
Now, the teen above would be alive today if he’d simply said, “Oh my mistake then officer,” when the cop told him that he didn’t have his brights on. If the cop had still had wanted to see his papers then he could have said, “Sure thing, officer” and produced them.
Having the Constitution and intent of the Founders on their side didn’t save the southern states from being conquered when they tried to leave the Union. What makes you think those “Constitutional rights” will help you in 2015 when “THE United States” was born from the abrogation of that document? Have you missed the developments of the last 25 years in particular?

      3. I’m white and I hate the police. Years ago, when I lived in California, I was on the receiving end of police harassment. Pretty much because I was poor, lived on the edge of town, and the police didn’t think I was a good fit. They did everything like kick in my door at 2 AM (I was alone) saying they heard screaming to stopping and frisking me when I’d walk a mile to a convenience store saying that they received calls that people thought I was casing the place.
The police do not give a flying fuck about rights or doing the right thing. They only exist to support the wealthy (in my case land developers with Chinese investors, trying to run all the renters of my landlord out).
Pulling a lady from her car, smashing her neck for failing to signal and wanting a cigarette in her own vehicle, and then charging her with “assault on a public safety officer”? More bullshit from the police!

    1. Man must ‘commandeer’ his home (dwelling), rehabilitate his vehicle (transportation), OWN his culture and finally ‘steal’ a woman (never pay for a woman).
So many have it all ass backwards or cattywampus. They try to ‘rehabilitate’ a used slut into a wife, lease a vehicle and borrow for a residence.

  5. “Can anyone be honest anymore?”
No. And that’s it in a nutshell, we are suffering a war on the truth. SJWs can’t allow truth to exist as an uncontrolled concept because they are seeking totalitarian rule. One thought, one voice, one mind, they only use diversity so long as it is a useful smokescreen for their true intent or to give them enough weight to affect their desired changes to a system.

    1. but why? i don’t get it. i’m winston in 1984 when he says, “i understand HOW; i do not understand WHY.”
what is the ultimate goal of though policing the world into a state of totalitarian rule under the guise of “equality and acceptance”? are they plotting or are they just useful idiots? is it for more dem votes? power for power’s sake? something else?
anyone with a good answer as to WHY, let me know.

      1. It’s to create sheeple, garner power, and make $$$. The public education system is specifically designed to brainwash unsuspecting kids into being leftists. If people were educated as to the truths of the world, instead of blindly accepting the PC garbage talking points being shoved down their throats, they would quickly realize how unnecessary government really is beyond establishing basic order in society.
In other words, critical thinking is dangerous to maintaining political power and influence. Politicians do their best to keep the sheeple in line by kowtowing to the SJW mob instead of building a stronger country.

        1. Progressive thought is implanted in higher education for sure, and most teachers from all grade levels are going to be democrats or progressives, but the books they assigned in grade school are surprisingly anti-progressive.
Take for instance the 1984 reference above. Assigned in sophomore English class. Another example, written before 1984 and which I find superior, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Others include: Farenheight 451, The Giver, Lord of the Flies, Animal Farm, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?… etc
Many or all these books were assigned or recommended in school which leads me to speculate there is some power struggle in the education system with some good men who seek to impart real knowledge on the masses against the PC and progressive minded SJWs.
Of course it would take a great teacher to translate the books meanings to the students who can not understand (Utopia is impossible and human nature is absolute, and in some cases evil) But, like many of us who read them without our teacher explaining that the authors were warning against a PC dominated socialist state, they imparted some wisdom that maybe would have been missed had they not been assigned. A great teacher can really change the way a young person thinks, same as a shitty one.
Its the ones who are becoming the teachers that are motivating the progressive brainwashing of the youth, not the system itself. I would say most capitalist free thinkers or libertarians are seeking self employment, independent research or other enterprise which puts them in a world far away from the impressionable youth.

      2. Winston gets his answer in room 101.
“The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from all the oligarchies of the past, in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just round the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.”

        1. And thus the secret sauce is revealed. Much like chess, the individual move is less important than the moves that one move allows or hinders.

        2. Kudos to you for the timely reminder of George Orwell’s classic dystopian novel `1984′. He is a prophet who sagely predicted the abhorrent and pussyfied culture that reigns supreme today.
In this screwed up generation, worthless feelings are more important than solid facts. The losers are mollycoddled while the winners are vilified for daring to be successful.
And of course all men are rapacious pigs and all women are ass kicking heroes with sharp intellect.
          Truly sickening!!!!

      3. Money – feminism is perfectly suited for the ever constantly increasing intrusion of government into our lives – for our own good of course – and behind government are the corporations who actually run the show; the more governments control us the more powerful large corporations become and they are the ones who set the agenda while we play with our plastic beads and squabble in the dirt for the crumbs flung at us.

      4. Clark Kent gave a very thorough response. I would only add:
        1. Thinking in terms of Dem or Rep votes for a political party is very limited. The truly powerful, or those with designs on power, only use simple concepts like partisanship because they are easier to relate to the average masses. It’s why a good slogan can beat a multi-step plan. “Yes, we can!” (But wtf does that mean?) “Change we can believe in!” (What change? Who makes the change? Why the change? How to change?) Most people don’t like to, don’t want to, or aren’t capable of asking those deeper questions, and especially in social groups, going with the herd is easier and more enjoyable. (Suggest reading: The Menace of the Herd by Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn)
        2. It isn’t a binary equation of plotting or useful idiots. It is both in tandem. The plotters manipulate and prey upon the weak-minded, (or willed), idealist, activist, cause-ist (what I call people who feel a obsessive/compulsive need to stand for causes simply as a means of self-determination), etc. to achieve their own ends. In all groups there are leaders and followers, it’s a natural hierarchy for mankind. In fact very few hold the positions of actual, and not simply symbolic, leadership, most who follow SJW doctrines really believe they are doing “good.” This is especially important because this belief lends itself to fanatical obsession and loyalty to the cause making them difficult to reason with and giving them strength to withstand scrutiny (because their cause is “righteous”, in their minds.
        3. The “Why” of it is as our illustrious Mr. Kent says. But I believe it is also because there are two kinds of people, those who thrive in chaos and those who must have order, with varying degrees in between the extremes. Those who seek absolute order require absolute power to maintain it. The end goal for the idealist, et al, may be some vision of a Utopia, Shangri La, or Eden (replete with maximum freedom, diversity, comfort, and safety), but for their masters that means secure, sanitary, stagnate, and orderly. That is where “useful idiots” comes from as the dreams the idealist hopes to achieve are irreconcilable with the means used to impose it and the creation of the state to maintain it.

        1. Agree with you on the Dems and Repubs. Let’s not forget about the other slogans on the other side as well: Bush in 04 (Safer World and More Hopeful America)….during our ongoing war on terrorism (still costing taxpayers years later). Bush to Obama….nothing has changed and we’re still paying the tab.
I agree that everyone needs to see both of these parties as one big party….and we (the people) are not invited.
Both parties has done a great job at dividing the people, exporting the country and removing nationalism for the greater globalism (for the few at the top with money and power).

  6. Famous video game creator Sid Meiers described a game this way: “A game is a series of meaningful decisions.”
Using that definition baseball sucks as a game because there are no decisions to be made. You do one thing and stand there until it’s time to do that one thing. It’s lacking any real depth of strategy. Compare it to basketball where a judgement must be made every split second. A person can have no reading or writing skills but still have a high “basketball IQ”. There exists no such thing in baseball when the only decision is when or when not to swing a bat.

    1. Intelligence isn’t a requirement for being successful at baseball. Except for the pitcher, the catcher, and the coaches, a player can dumb as a box of dirt and make the hall of fame. Most big time sports are like that now. Dominica or Detroit, doesn’t matter.

  7. Wait a minute… you describe the difference between intelligence and education, yet Cowherd apparently doesn’t know the difference. He’s saying that Dominicans’ relative lack of formal education proves that baseball isn’t a thinking man’s game? That’s either a really stupid statement, or a genuinely “racist” statement disguised as a stupid one. Does he really mean to say that Dominicans have lower IQs than whites of European descent? That would be a logical argument. All this other stuff is evidence suggesting that sports commentary isn’t a thinking man’s game. Nor is writing for Return of Kings.

  8. Sport talk radio was great back in the pre internet days because it allowed dummies to vent and rant about rather trivial shit. Next day? All forgotten. Twitter is sports talk radio on steroids(and kratom). Dummies ranting and raving 24/7, and it doesnt disappear the next day.
It really is a dangerous platform and I wish it never existed.

  9. I suspect there are a large number of men now, who understand the truth and want to speak it, but seeing how powerful the SJW’s are, they just don’t do it, for the fear of losing their jobs and/or becoming social outcasts. And just as the author of this article says, I don’t blame them. They are just trying to survive in a world ruled by insane people.

    1. Right. But the Social Justice Wankers NEVER should have become this powerful. They’re only now in a position where they can successfully get one canned at snap of fingers because of companies who’ve given them what ever they wanted.
It never should have gone this far but has thanks to spineless companies who bow down to these tyrannical assholes. This pure insanity would stop if organizations and companies simply did what should have been done with these degenerates from the get-go: IGNORE THEM.

      1. blame social media. gave them a place to congregate behind hashtags. unbelievable on paper, but true in form.

      2. Yeah you are right. However, what the SJW’s can do in most cases is to take it to the internet to stir up a storm. It’s not like they have the audacity to do the heads of these companies some real harm, if the companies did now bow down to their pandering. In most cases, these SJW’s can’t even get the law on their side. After all, freedom of speech is a right, not a crime. So, to put it plainly, the SJW’s can’t really do anything apart from moral policing on the internet.
Thus, it is ridiculous that the companies will listen to them out of any fear of legal action. Instead companies listen to them to save face, and to appear moral. It’s a way of saying to their customers, “look we’re not bad people, and we take action against people who hurt feelings of others. Thus, don’t boycott our services or products.”
And that’s exactly the problem. These companies think that a whole lot of their customers are SJW’s, and they have to make them happy in order to stay in business. I suspect that a lot of their customers are not SJW’s, but sane men and women, and although these sane individuals may not be the majority, (considering the way the media and social conditioning have rendered so many people, to become crybabies who are offended just over anything), they certainly are are a considerable minority, or maybe roughly equally in numbers. The reason, that these sane individuals do not make much noise over the stupid protests of the SJW’s is that sane people have a normal amount of self control, and are not triggered to scream and shout and everything. SJW’s being the lunatic side, shout louder, and thus people and companies are tricked into believing that they are an overwhelming majority.
If these companies began to take a stand against the SJW’s, I wouldn’t be amazed if their businesses weren’t much affected, because the sane customers’s demands wouldn’t decrease, and the SJW’s who are actually cowards, and don’t have the courage to stand on their own, in times of difficulties, and have the conformist herd mentality, will silently begin to follow the sane ones. All it requires is for a few companies to unite together and decide that they will not buy into the SJW hysteria. They make actually be surprised by their results.

        1. This type of stuff only matters during times of peace. When people have other things to worry about (like living, eating, clean water, etc…) then all of this bullshit falls to the wayside.
It’s happened before and it will happen with this bullshit as well.

        2. Exactly. In the third world countries, where people have to worry about, actual poverty, starvation, extreme terrorism, illiteracy and unavailability of medical care, they cannot afford to get upset, because someone said something that they don’t like, because men are not dating them due to their obesity, or about manspreading.

      3. This is what happens when you negotiate with the unreasonable; they are never satisfied, and they will only ever take advantage of any good intentions. The only way to deal with such people is to be firm in convictions, and to never compromise your integrity; in short, to never negotiate.
“We do not negotiate with terrorists”.

      4. It’s hard to ignore these complaints when a billion dollars worth of media assets amplify every moment of insanity. Their bitchfests on Tumblr mean nothing until the MSM focuses the attack and makes it mean something. Those who control the media control the beast. They created it. They lead it.
Social Justice is merely a tool. You have to look beyond them and see who’s holding the sword.
        SJW is the Weaponized Jew.

    2. What you are going to see (and it’s happening now) is these SJWs turning on each other and their own system turning on them. We’ve seen a couple of cases, recently, where one of these “victims” was thrown to the wolves by their own.
You only have to wait for the destruction of this system. In time, it usually happens.

  10. Fuck him. ESPN has already showed its stripes in a thousand ways before this. He should have been a man and walked away from ESPN a long time ago like Dan Patrick did. ESPN firing him is the sports broadcasting version of ‘The Scorpion and the Frog’. ESPN is being run over by SJW sentiment and he stayed with them so fuck Colin Cowherd.

    1. ESPN has been a leftard thought factory since its beginning, but you knew the final nail in the coffin had been hammered in when they gave Caitlyn Atttention Whore Jenner a courage award. What s/he did takes no more courage these days than buying a bag of chips at 7/11.

  11. I would care, but this is just Cowherd’s chickens coming home to roost.
Several years ago, Cowherd outright stole college kids’ comedic bits and then refused to give credit to them: http://deadspin.com/162730/why-your-national-radio-host-sucks
(yes it’s the fags at Deadspin. sorry)
So this is just another corporate p.o.s. getting what he deserves.
Shades of Bill Simmons being fired from ESPN….after being a lefty political booster/black apologist for years, including trying to get Obama on his podcast during the 2008 run. Simmons also curled up in the fetal position when he was scolded for making fun of trannies.
They both rejected masculinity and fair play to be little corporatist/lefty losers, I hope they go bankrupt and watch their children become prostitutes (in Simmons’s case, there’s a 75% change his daughter will be a train-run NBA groupie).
It’s humorous that these corporate p.c. douchebags get their comeuppance. No matter how much they towed the party line and burned all the other heretics, it didn’t save them or give them a Mulligan when their names were on the chopping block. Shades of the many “purges” in the Soviet Union, when those who ran the last purge were the ones purged in the next wave, to much wailing and nashing of teeth.
In any event, you shouldn’t be listening to sports talk radio except as a goof. It’s mindnumbingly stupid and takes your focus off important goals.

    1. But the real problem here is that the idea is under attack (not so much these corporate sellouts). I agree with you that many of them deserve it because they are sellouts.
My problem is that the very idea of telling the truth is under attack. We should all be worried about it.
Cowherd made two statements (two facts): Baseball is not rocket science and the DR has poor education.
Anyone with an once of common sense (any man I should say who can look themselves in the mirror) should agree with both of those statements (and tell women to shut the fuck up and sit down – like the old days).
There is no room for feelings when facts are presented.

      1. True, but this is the rabbit warren eating its own. Any K who tries to stick up for Cowherd will not get Cowherd’s loyalty; he’ll go right back to bashing un-p.c. ideas (and stealing kids’ comedy bits) if he gets financially secure again.
Again, like sticking up for the truth in Stalin’s Soviet Union, you’re only giving them notice at who should be part of the next purge…and giving Cowherd, a rabbit, someone to denounce so that he can save his own skin amongst the rabbits. Better to get out of the Soviet Union (re: corporate jobs) and start your own business and criticize from a safer space like a Switzerland or 1980s U.S.
Cappy Capitalism is a great start to running your own joint.
Again, just consider truth already dead in corporate land, and unrevivable. Build life outside it.
Guns, gold, and higher ground gentlemen. And fuck rabbits like Coherd, who’s getting part of the poetic justice he deserves.

        1. Honestly I don’t know anything about this “entertainer”. I don’t listen to his work on the radio and I only know his name from a few articles here and there. I try to keep the important things in focus…like I said…the truth being spoken was under attack.
I could care less about the man (he’s only in it for the money). The concern comes from the trend that could continue whenever anyone wants to speak the truth.
It’s similar to the military: you don’t salute the man, you salute the rank. If we can’t speak the truth, then we all lose.

        2. I don’t agree; you only salute the rank when the army as a whole deserves your respect. Cowherd is a corporatist stooge liar and theif who was part of a lefty corporation and will go on to be a corporatist stooge, liar, and thief for the next people he works for. None of that deserves respect.
In fact, if we give trash like him no sympathy and laugh at his misery, it would actually help to encourage other lefties to see that they can’t play with wolves like that any more.
Rabbits get off thinking they can force wolves to play by the rules they don’t have to. If the wolves stop defending rabbits—if we make it so we only play by the rules when its wolves v. wolves, but with rabbits we will use rabbit tactics (see Alinsky)—-then rabbits will react with fear, and some will toe the wolf line.
The more respect you show a disrespectful person, the more disrespectful they become.

        3. Nah…I agree with you that this person is trash. But, we have to recognize and uphold a whole system or it’s meaningless. This particular person deserves what he gets (or what he got). My concern is if he’s on “their side” then we’re in trouble.
I will gladly call out anyone who is trying to shout down truth, fact, science, etc….because SJWs, today, want everything to be equal “just because”.
Fuck that…I’ve worked too hard for too long to just let everyone else “in”.

        4. The system, at this point, is meaningless.
Let me say this: find a survivalist group in the next year or so and ingratiate yourself. I’m not kidding. waiting 5 years is too late.
Good luck, where ever you are. It’s hard enough for me up here in the North East.

  12. Domincans certainly have an inferiority complex when it comes to education or being perceived as dumb. I think Colin unknowingly stepped on a landmine that most people aren’t aware of unless they have dealt with dominicans directly and committed that faux pas.
I have two examples. In high school i was in the football team. One of my teamates on the JV squad was Dominican, and we had an art class together. Me being the arrogant brainy kid, back then, displayed my knowledge in front of the guy. I forgot what I said, but I remember his reaction in exact quotes; “stop bringing knowledge to this table!” I wasn’t even trying to upstage him or intimidate him on purpose. But his fear and reaction was the same as if I was a 6 foot tall senior trying to scare a scrawny, wimpy nerd.
The second example I read in the Beta Times years ago. It’s about former Domincan player Manny Ramirez. Here’s the passage:
“Mandl had always assumed Manny would help out his old team, though he made a point of not asking him for anything. The players desperately needed new uniforms, at a cost of about $7,000. One of Mandl’s former assistant coaches put in the request to Manny. Manny said, “Sure.”
But then he stuck Mandl with the bill. That was around the time he stopped talking to his former high school coach.
It seemed to stem from a misunderstanding that started when sportswriters asked Mandl why his former star committed so many wacky errors in the field. Mandl gave what he thought was an honest explanation: Maybe Manny had attention deficit disorder.
Mandl did not mean it as an insult. He would never hurt Manny. He was sure a lot of major league ballplayers had A.D.D. Mandl even wondered if A.D.D. had been his problem as a kid; maybe that was why he could never focus on school or anything except baseball.
The comment was tabloid news, and somehow it got translated back to Manny
that his high school coach was telling everyone he was stupid. Manny was
sensitive about his intelligence and easily hurt. Mandl became a
nonperson. Mandl wished he could talk to Manny, explain things to him.
But you did not call Manny, Manny called you.”

    1. I think the best line I heard about Manny Ramirez being an idiot was this:
“Even if Ramirez did use steroids, you can’t punish him for it, because you can’t prove he knew it was steroids. Manny’s too dumb to even know what steroids are. He probably thought he was eating candy while someone was pinching his bum.”

  13. Wait a minute! Hold on just a minute! Colon Coward is a PC, cultural-marxist creep who attacks Christians for not wanting to bake cakes for homosexualists. I’m GLAD to see the arrogant creep hoisted on his own petard!
    Admiral Ackbar!

    1. Love the cereal. “Your tongue can’t repel flavor of this magnitude!”

    2. At a restaurant.
      Woman: I’ll have the calamari.
Akbar: Well, I guess I’ll have the insensitive bitch with a side of fuck you!
      Robot Chicken is awesome.

  14. Fuck baseball, all these sports are circling the drain, and it’s pretty damn boring at that. This guy is at least not being apologetic, I’ll give him that. Fucking retard SJWs twist everything a man says!

    1. Any perceivable threat to the narrative must be quelled post-haste, verbal comprehension be damned.

      1. ‘Diversity’—- “Don’t ever be the first to stop applauding — OR ELSE.”

    2. I encourage you to read “The Glory of Our Times”, it is truly an inspiring book about the ballplayers(granted, all these guys played from 1900-1930, but still, these were honorable small town guys who made it to the show).

  15. Well well well. Apparently it wasn’t enough for the leftoid SJWs of ESPN’s management that Cowherd towed the line with their ridiculous Courage award with Caitlyn Attention Whore Jenner. Any deviation from the Cultural Marxist plantation can get a good beta boy prematurely dismissed from most media outlets. Who knew? Anyone with any awareness of our current political climate, that’s who. No need for them to worry, however. They still have Mike “I never met a black athlete who had an IQ under 400” Greenberg and Mike “I better not say anything against even the sluttiest woman or my ugly wife won’t fuck me tonight” Golic to be PC shills for the network.

    1. Affirmative Action leads to females in executive positions by legal mandate. ESPN would be a sitting duck for lawsuits if they don’t oblige. I don’t know who the execs are at ESPN but I would take 10 to 1 right now, sight unseen, that there are at least a few females at the executive brass level. Naturally those women forget all about the intended product (you know, sports) and make a beeline to the progressive warpath. That’s what happens when you reward victimhood. The victims get handed power and then just double. triple, quadruple down on the only thing that gives them any value; victim status. There’s no talent, ability, competence or proven performance. That’s not what got them there so they cling to what did. Dance with the one that brought you. It’s happening everywhere in advertising. It could be a freaking rootbeer company and they’ll inject misandry into their advertisements. GHOST TIME. This shit is so stupid.

      1. I really believe that ESPN is fucking themselves and they are going to create their own competition (who will eventually put them under). Women are not loyal and men will turn to another source for sports news or entertainment.

  16. If you are a public figure, and white and male, you should never discuss race and ethnicity, ever, if you want to keep your job.
You cannot be honest. You can’t make a joke. You can’t even make a mistake.
Today’s puritans are fear-driven, illogical and merciless.
The answer is frankly to double down. To say, “I stand by my remarks. They were meant in a light-hearted spirit, but I forgot in this day and age, we live in a humorless, puritanical time where anything said on race and ethnicity costs you your job. I hope my critics are as pure of heart and thought as they demand I be.”

    1. He should come out as polyracial, and claim he was identifying as black that day. Then sue ESPN for racial discrimination.
The only way to defeat the Social Justice Jew is to use their own weapons against them.

        1. You know if you stopped pretending you’re black, they might let you in StormFront.

  17. If these DR baseball players feel that their homeland lacks the educational opportunities and are embarrassed by it, why not donate their some of their fat salaries back and improve the conditions there. Then come on Cowherd’s show and tell the audience what he’s doing. That’s what we call constructive criticism.
You don’t get mad at the person who said the truth about you that you are ashamed of, instead you can thank him/her for enlightening you so you can improve.

    1. and there lies the truth regarding the whole matter. But, it’s easier for these baseball players to get on their computers to whine about a statement made about their country. Again, the truth hurts so let’s shoot the messenger.
Anyone with a computer (or passport) knows the condition in the DR (it’s bad or those baseball players would be working there versus another country). It’s embarrassing and they should help to make a change but like I said…it’s easier to bitch at a keyboard versus putting in the real work to change it.

  18. jesus he was fired for saying that a poor impoverished nation has a shitty educational system ?? Saying something that is true you get fired?? This is scary. Fuck ESPN.

    1. Deliberately missing the point is one of their strategies of choice these days. The man made a simple, factual statement. They pounced on the most offensive possible interpretation and paraded their lack of basic comprehension proudly through the outrage-sphere…and won. Makes you wonder what the hell is going on.

    2. I’ve said this many times but ESPN has become nothing more than a tabloid outlet meshed in a social justice narrative. I was flipping through the tube last evening and stopped on ESPN for 3-4 minutes. It was two WOMEN discussing athletes like they were on The View. When you don’t have women hosting a segment full of giggles and treating it like women’s daytime drama, you’ve got male anchors talking about the need for female refs, etc.
It’s completely unbearable to watch that station now. Fuck ESPN.

      1. True, ESPN is owned by multimedia giant Walt Disney Company after all. Anyone who still believes it is completely innovative, fair, unopinionated, etc. is delusional.

      2. Feminism is an aggressive, malignant cancer. It destroys everything it infects, spreading outward into other systems.
The only way to fix cancer is to remove the visible clusters with a knife, then poison it and hope the host survives the assault. It is crude and brutal medicine… and it’s our only hope.

      3. “I’ve said this many times but ESPN has become nothing more than a tabloid outlet meshed in a social justice narrative.”
Become? It always has been you fucking retard.

    3. Agree. I stopped contributing to ESPN a long time ago (once I saw they jumped the shark). More men need to take back their time, turn off the TV, don’t visit their site, etc….hurt them economically. It’s the only thing that matters to these large corporations….money.

  19. “…its not surprising that his remarks earned him an early vacation.
I think he just did the same thing Bill Simmons did a few months ago – say something mildly offensive knowing the ESPN brass would kick you out early, so you’d have the rest of the summer off. Thanks, ESPN, for the extra long paid vacation!

  20. I’m currently in the Dominican Republic. I just signed up for internet that was promoted as 10mb/s. We’ve been visited by the technicians, around 10 times. The fine internet runs at 1.2 mb/s . I won’t say that Dominicans are dumb, only that they have a fine genius for baseball..and nothing else.

    1. …and outside of the resorts, the country is awash in litter and filth….the average DR is too lazy to pick up litter and put it in a garbage container….it was disgusting when I was there….I lost all sympathy for these people when I saw how little pride they had in their living space…

      1. Yeah thats absolutely true, if there is an open field, even in a prime area, its treated like the dump. I’m always amazed how they build nice buildings, then no one ever seems to do maintenance on them ever again.

  21. The First rule of ‘Diversity’: Diversity means everyone MUST think alike about ‘Diversity’.
The Second Rule of ‘Diversity’: Nobody must EVER point out the First Rule of ‘Diversity’
When it comes to ‘Diversity’—- “Don’t ever be the first to stop applauding.”
Diversity means chasing down the last white person. Freedom now. Freedom from enforced, genocidal ‘diversity’.

  22. If ROK wants to introduce what is generally referred to as ‘red pill truth’ to a much wider audience, a sports site/blog could have a serious impact. Sports in this country are huge and even sh*t sites like Deadspin get recognition. Much in the way Reaxxion was created for gamers, a sports website/blog would be big.
It’s just a suggestion, and I would try it myself, but I don’t have the position in life, currently, the resources, or the skill to make it happen quickly. While Deadspin sets the bar pretty low, I figured I would share the idea with people who are better at it than I am.
    Seriously… ROK sports.

    1. Not bad – except every national sporting event (especially women’s) in the country is pretty much run by SJWs.

      1. Deadspin’s slogan is “Sports News without Access, Favor, or Discretion”. While Deadspin is low ball, that specific idea can still be upheld.
And I don’t really see a need to cover women’s sports at all, so SJWs being involved in national women’s sporting events is of little to no consequence.

        1. I never said women’s sports should be covered; I merely pointed out the growing influence of SJWs. But I agree women’s sports shouldn’t be covered. Women’s sports are nothing more than silly events where women receive the same pay as men doing the same sport but with better playing conditions and more breaks.
I haven’t checked Deadspin before, but it sounds like it’s doing something right.

        2. Actually, Deadspin is part of Gawker media, which is the same media group as Jezebel. So they are pieces of sh*t.
I was just using them as an example of how low the bar is and that one doesn’t need locker room access (or good writing) to run a successful sports site. So ROK could easily challenge the sports media world if they wanted.

    2. Also, I have never been a fan of Colin Cowherd, but his dismissal is ridiculous. It sounds like a sour-grapes reaction to him leaving and them finding a vindictive excuse to smear him.
That being said, while the writer of this article addresses the distinction between smart vs educated, I’m not sure Cowherd actually recognized the distinction.

    3. The comment section on Barstool Sports is pretty red pill. Probably the funniest comment section on the internet.

  23. “Honesty is a virtue.”
How upsetting that is no longer the case. Eventually, people who are unafraid to be brutally honest (like Cowherd and Donald Trump) by addressing problems will be rooted out, and the new figureheads of society will be clueless, SJW-backed idiots who will cry wolf when they perceive truthful comments to be “racist”.

  24. So, not only do we live in a kindergarten idealistic everyone-is-equal culture, but that also includes the idea that we all are as smart as an Albert Einstein?
This nonsense is not much different than the early Christian church hunting down heretics who strayed from it’s holy gospel. Just substitute one pile of nonsense for another, with the high priests of political correctness ready to punish all unfaithfulness from their dogma.

  25. Liberal Logic:
–“You can’t say minorities are uneducated! That’s racist!!!”
–“Minority schools are failing! They need more money!!!”

    1. in atlanta, the teachers help the hyphenated-children cheat! ‘we’re sorry, we just wanted more funding!’ slap on the wrist. what happened to ‘you can’t cut the mustard at school due to lack of motivation and borderline-mental retardation? no problem! the world needs ditch-diggers too!’

  26. It’s not mere guessing that women cannot play major league baseball, it is a statistical inevitability. Sure, there is a chance that somewhere out of 3 billion women, maybe one could cut it, but really, that is like fucking proton decay.

    1. The natural explosiveness required would only be found in, who knows, 30 women worldwide. You can’t lift your way to a great arm or a quick bat. Weightlifting can bolster the snap of guys who are already natural freaks but you can’t just strength train for baseball. Look at Tim Lincecum. Name a pitcher with Arnold arms. It doesn’t happen. Andrew McCutchen isn’t a big guy at all but his bat just SNAPS around. A 300 pound powerlifter would have a slow bat. So I can’t see one of the thirty woman being able to play ball around the clock either. I doubt it happens. There’s a French girl who is a phenom but it’s unlikely the bat speed or arm could ever be big league.

      1. I think a woman pitcher tried to play baseball, she was athletic and had played for years. I think she topped out in the upper 70s mph.
having narrow shoulders and less coordination is basically the death knell to them having any chance to succeed at baseball.
whereas there have always been plenty of small men who could throw in the 90s

    2. Women will be able to play major league baseball when the standards are lowered. That’s how our society is doing it for all other (more important) career fields.
That move or give these grown up children their own league.

    1. In a world where private pillow-talk can be used to give you a harder fucking than the one you just gave…
“If one would give me six lines written by the hand of the most honest man, I would find something in them to have him hanged”

  27. So, would it be racist if I said, “I love to bang black chicks because they put on a good show in the sack”? See, I think I’m just shining a light on the truth. Moreover, is it possible to offend multiple targets in the same sentence? What if I said, “the idea of banging a cute Asian chick makes me harder than day-old French bread”? Is that racist towards the Asians AND Gallic people?

    1. I think you say want you want to say and tell other people to mind their fucking business.
I live in the U.S and the last time I checked I had freedom of speech and the right to bear arms. I gladly let people know I have both on a regular basis (speech and I conceal carry). It helps the conversation (and the other person) along sometimes knowing that we don’t have to agree and if there is a problem then that person should be carrying as well.
Whatever happen to just disagreeing with some shit and moving on (like adults)? God damn.

      1. ” . . . mind their fucking business”? Dude, in what altered reality do you exist? 99% of people are so intellectually under powered, so bored with themselves that they have to medicate the dull ache of their vestigial brains by poking their noses in the business of others. Why do you think that shit stains like the Kardashians have careers? Most people are pathetic busybodies; if we cut them off, there would be panic in the streets.
Of course, my larger point for the previous comment is that no matter what you say, some keyboard warrior is going to find something by which to be offended, just so they can manufacture synthetic rage and get some up votes on whatever platform functions as their putative friends.

        1. These are old remedies of the past that will work (if and when applied) for what seems to be a problem, today. It’s something that I would use more in person (for effect).
It does work but it takes men to deliver it (to fix it as usual).

  28. You aren’t even able to make an honest observation without being labelled a racist or sexist nowdays. Fact, men are physically superior to women, fact, the Dominican republic has a shitty education system. SJWs and even Western society in general is on a war against truth.

    1. Agree…and men should “stay the course”.
Only women (and men I consider women) get their feelings hurt when facts are presented. More men need to have the balls to say “you’re right…I need to work on that” instead of getting their feelings hurt (like women).

      1. Yes you can have your feelings hurt, but do not lash out against the person who said it. See if there is any truth to what was said before you reply. If there is truth, do something that will positively change from what was said. If there was no truth, then you debate about it and you can demonstrate to the audience what a fool this person is.
Edit: Instead of feelings, I should say ego.

    2. You can do like Mr. Tom Leykis and work for yourself…when you work for these big companies you basically work for the “PC” standard and those in these positions should know that.

      1. Yea I’ve started looking at alternative ways of making money, always good to have an FU fund.

  29. There may be more going in here. ESPN may have used this as a ploy to put themselves ahead of Fox and Colin. So this may be not just a knee-jerk but a strategic move as well.

    1. Interesting perspective. A tactic that women employ when they lose their boyfriends to the other woman. Destroy the guy’s character to make it seem like she is better and dumped him rather than accepting the fact that he dumped her to pursue a better woman.

  30. 1) Do you have to reflexively defend every obnoxious person? The comment wasn’t racist, but I can’t see how to spin Cowherd’s comment so that it is reasonable. In fact, you had to write 1,000 words to try to do so.
    2) Why can’t a Dominican get upset over someone insulting his country? Are Dominicans not allowed?

    1. 1. Are you seriously claiming you don’t understand what was being said in context? No amount of spin is required to make it reasonable. It takes the barest amount of reading comprehension to know what was being said there.
      2. Insulting their country? The man made a factual statement. Facts are not insulting. Those who take offense at facts are disinterested in rational discourse.

      1. 1. I am seriously claiming I do understand what was being said. Spin is required to make it reasonable. Apparently, it does take more than the barest amount of reading comprehension to know what was being said there.
        I guess I triggered you.
        2. There’s a chance your mother is a whore. I made a factual statement. If I made that factual statement in front of you and your mother, I’m sure you would do absolutely nothing.

        1. No triggering, I’m just baffled as to how such a simple statement could be misread. Let me break it down for you:
          1. Claim: Baseball is complex.
          2. Challenge: 1/3 players are from Dominican Republic.
2b. Dominican Republic does not have an academically rigorous education system
2c. Many of those players lacked access to even this limited academic training
          3. Conclusion: Baseball can’t be that complex if a large portion of its player base lacks rigorous academic education.
Comprehensive argument? Nope. Simple one? Sure. Insulting? Hardly.

        2. I re-read his statement a couple times to see if what he actually said was reasonable. I didn’t see it.
Embedded in his statement is the clear-as-day implication that merely coming from the Dominican Republic means you’re a dumb cluck. He added the bit about the backgrounds of some of the players, but that has nothing to do with their being from the Dominican Republic (that would require an additional comment about poverty or per capita income) or his previous statement about the Dominican Republic’s academic institutions; moreover, that statement has little to do with the academic prowess of the people. You can have dummies in a country with a Harvard and a poor country can have an elite school that foreigners haven’t heard of.
Obviously you can take similar words and make a statement that sounds reasonable. He failed to do that.
Maybe he comes from a state where the educational system wasn’t so good.

        3. Agree to disagree then. From my reading he clearly qualifies his statement as referring to academic opportunities.
Regardless, the culture of knee-jerk outrage is one that consistently squanders opportunities to educate and instead scolds. I agree, the guy made a generally inelegant statement that lacked nuance and full citation. That said, it was talking off the cuff and making a general point – this wasn’t an article, academic debate, or rehearsed chat. He phrased a point poorly. He was fired for that.

        4. I agree with you about the culture of knee-jerk outrage.
I imagine Cowherd has a golden parachute, though.

        5. Oh for sure, but I’m concerned about the wider chilling effects. In a call-out culture where figurative head-hunting of the inartful speaker becomes a sport it won’t take very long for punishment to start filtering down the system. The internet has radically changed the nature of celebrity and with it the extent of “the public interest.” Remember dongle-gate (http://techcrunch.com/2013/03/21/a-dongle-joke-that-spiraled-way-out-of-control/)? Or the Jusine Sacco blow up (http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/15/magazine/how-one-stupid-tweet-ruined-justine-saccos-life.html)? Every time someone gets ripped down the baying crowd takes it as a sign that they need to push harder, further, with more outrage. Long term that’s going to lead to some very dangerous places

        6. I’ve experienced this myself. I’ve written about that here
          http://www.pressherald.com/2012/02/18/coachs-resignation-more-questionable-than-photo-that-led-to-flap_2012-02-18/
and referenced Donglegate via a link here
          http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/oped/bs-ed-rape-statistics-20140928,0,7060764.story
Sacco I was less sympathetic toward and her faux pas does seem to relate to her job as communications director. Reading the article you linked to, though, I now see she was an equal opportunity offender, so perhaps now I would take it easier on her. I’m against companies firing people simply because the companies can’t take the heat—for example, when a professional athlete, who is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, gets arrested. (On the other hand, if that athlete can’t practice, it does seem reasonable for the team to drop him for that reason.) In several cases, it’s actually the SJW bosses who get angry when the people they believe will be offended might not care so much.
[Incidentally, I’m shocked at the New York Times reporter’s admission that he went after someone because that person gave his documentaries bad reviews. Fire him! (Sarcasm.)
Also, ironically, I was defending Stone in the comments section of another RoK article, and two other commenters, including the author, didn’t like that.
I don’t know what Biddle meant by it, but “Bring Back Bullying” sounds like a good idea! Resistance builds muscle.]

        7. Interesting articles, thanks for linking them. The first raises a great point. We should think in terms of harm. Was a harm done, was it intended, what reaction does the totality of the situation warrant. I might of overstated the initial point and appreciate the subsequent dialogue – I still don’t agree that there’s a clear offense dealt or intended, but you’ve certainly made me ponder the whole situation a lot longer and in more depth than originally intended. My central thesis is that in an age where outrage is a form of cultural capital (and a means by which funds are raised, speaking engagements arranged, books published and positions created) we’ve become very quick to find offense where there was none. A passing joke becomes an opportunity for global shaming. A poorly phrased comment becomes a justification for firing. Instead of crying foul we should instead be calmly, rationally discussing. I appreciate that you’ve done just that Jonathan.

        8. Thanks. I agree with your comment (except possibly the last sentence).

  31. The difference between “uneducated” and “stupid”
Easy… The “stupid” went to university !

  32. People in those Caribbean countries don’t have much in the way of IQ. Though in fairness the Dominicans look like mentats compared to the Haitians. At least the Dominicans protected their forests instead of stripping the vegetation on their side of the island of Hispaniola to the bare dirt, in contrast to what the Haitians did on the other side of the island.

  33. First of all, there is absolutely no way that Jose Bautista wrote that himself – the grammer is far too good for him to write it solo. That means a PR hack wrote it for him.

    1. Also Bautista may not have understood Cowherd’s comment to begin with. His PR hack may had the need to demonstrate their usefulness by stirring the pot so to speak and triggered this outrage, and thus “his” response. Maybe the PR misinterpreted Cowherd’s comment to Bautista.

    2. At least it’s obvious a PR hack is defending his client.
An ESPN journo will lie to your face and the network pretends it’s true.

    3. what goes around, comes around. only a matter of time before he tests positive for this or that… then he’ll be the one apologizing, boo-hoo-hoo!

  34. Solid article. About the ‘The difference between “uneducated” and “stupid” ‘ part: intelligence has nothing to do with education indeed.
In certain college courses, you can retell every piece of information you memorised like a parrot for your exams. But yeah, you graduated with highest distinction in college, so who cares, you got the degree. Or you can be a plumber, without a college degree, but a plumber who questions the world around him and the information he receives through the media.
Which one of those two sounds the most intelligent? I guess the answer is clear. Intelligence has little to do in my opinion with the amount of knowledge one has, but rather with the ability to question and apply that knowledge. And for the latter, one doesn’t need college degrees.

    1. A college degree shows that one has the persistence and discipline to complete a long term task. It does not really show his/her intelligence.

  35. Bautista’s needing to have it explained to him rather makes Cowherd’s point.

  36. Spot on article, Sharpe. No, the truth hurts and that is why so many from the “DR” were hurt by his comment. These god damn baseball players (women) who were hurt by his comments are just that….women (not men).
Any man would have agreed with his assessment of the place or would have just blew the comment off, period. If the place is so great, then why aren’t those ball players back there playing at home.
    Exactly.

  37. Look, I really don’t want to take the side of the “PC crowd,” but it seems like Cowherd is the one using stupid and uneducated interchangeably. I really don’t see how that statement can fairly be construed otherwise.
Let’s pick our battles here. Cowherd is a terrible journalist. ESPN is a terrible network that’s an affront to sports and sports journalism. I can count on 1 hand hand the number of commentators on ESPN that don’t deserve to be fired.

  38. He deserved it.
Donovan, do you legitimately follow Cowherd, or is this just a reaction piece to his firing?
He should have been let go a long time ago over his Unwarranted hate on John Wall the NBA player. He has said some disgusting things about the young man’s life, most of which is not true.
Cowherd does not give a fuck about how stupid and uneducated players are. It’s evidence you don’t watch his material.
Equating SJWs to dominacanos is even worse. It’s professional sports, we don’t expect any of them, irrespective of race, to be engineers.
What he did was an irrelevant Trojan horsing of his racist beliefs through the guise that he’s attacking baseball purists.

  39. I watched 2 well know Canadian sport commentators discuss that it was only a matter of time until there was a female HEAD COACH in the NBA….one guy, Michael Grange, said “it was time”….lol…the fear in his voice from the SJW crowd was palpable……
We now have MEN genuflecting to the feminist horde in sports…out of fear of losing their jobs…it’s so bad we have fools thinking a female head coach in the NBA is just around the corner…

    1. time to turn off the sports! professional athletes have been getting more and more spoiled, pampered, bratty, and above all richer than their wildest dreams (and you know what kind of ‘rich’). play some sports with friends in your home-town. fuck the bread & circuses of the ‘professionals.’

      1. I only watch the NHL. It’s 97% white and most hockey players come from solid, conservative families.

        1. The NHL pucksluts inbreed so much that dead diseases like the mumps have infected it’s athletes

  40. Cowherd off the air for this? PC will take their axe to everyone and will end up using it on themselves for supporting capital punishment.
I really like Mike and Mike but they have their lips firmly planted on the rear-end of ESPN and get no respect for honesty.

  41. Leftists do not understand the difference between ignorance and stupidity, which is one of the major reasons they are stupid and arrogant themselves.

  42. Another dumb article making excuses for some random fool.
Why would anyone expect to keep their job as a sportscaster whilst insulting the players and fans? That is exactly what he did… logic guys, try it.

  43. The problem is that because A)Cowherd is leaving ESPN in a month anyway, and B)He’s blown the dog whistle on race multiple times before and has gotten away with it, people are less likely to give him the benefit of the doubt. Let’s call a spade a spade here: It was poorly worded, and was a point that was poorly defined. To draw that conclusion was a little stupid, it’s like saying that pro football is complex merely because every player in the league had to complete at least three years of college, ignoring the fact that most of these players were in college merely because they had to be, and most likely wouldn’t have been admitted had they not had a unique gift. This isn’t a case of political correctness run amok, this is more a case of a guy who isn’t the most intelligent, or eloquent making a horribly defined statement, and people taking it at face value, and reacting accordingly. The same thing happened to Jimmy the Greek, even though his point merited conversation(sociology and genetics, does it play a role in success), it was still made in a way to where it could be deemed offensive. Frankly, if it had been another ESPN host, without the baggage of Cowherd making this statement, people would have been a little put off, but that person would have not been fired. People would have been more willing to consider the message flawed, but serving a purpose. That’s what happens when you don’t build your career on being a professional troll. Cowherd has been a troll for years, saying outlandish crap to get a rise out of certain groups, eventually that will come back to bite you. It did now, but it doesn’t matter, for he’s moving on to Fox Sports.
And by the way, who the F cares about Cowherd? He’s spent most of his ESPN tenure throwing men under the bus, playing the “If you aren’t married, you’re a loser” card whenever he could ,and furthering the goals of the SJWs who have invaded the sports world. He got done in by the same people he played to all these years, screw him.

  44. But what about all those times he defended the SJW oppression? Doesn’t matter. Rollo has written before about how relational equity doesn’t exist for men and it’s the same with this. Nothing you have ever done before matters. You offend one person one time and you’re done. Better to be a man and stand on the firm cold ground of the truth than to willfully stand on a rug they can’t wait to pull out from under you.

  45. As soon as I heard this story break, I knew Cowherd’s days were numbered.
Also in the news recently, Hulk Hogan was fired from the WWE for using the word ‘nigger’. Not on TV, not at an event representing the WWE, not on social media. Nope. Hulk Hogan said the word in private, but a recording was released (much like the Clippers owner who had his team taken away from him).
Apparently the WWE doesn’t care about his contributions to their organization over the last 30 years. Nah, fuck all that. It all doesn’t count because he said ‘nigger’ once.
Absolutely no respect or honour and zero sense of loyalty shown by the WWE. They could have released a statement saying how everyone makes mistakes and that they stand by one of the most prominent members of their organization. They could have asked him to issue an apology. Hell, the old WWE would have used this as a storyline and turned Hulk Hogan into a villain.

  46. As an educator, here is the best data we have on intelligence. Cowherd should have known his comment would cross a line. He always preaches on professionalism and intelligence. His point was it does not take a lot of intelligence to manage a baseball game. His connection to a lack of intelligence was Dominican players. His connection to Dominican players was a lack of education.
That said, he is ignorant (so are most people unless they are part of this culture) of multiple-intelligences. This has been in the vernacular for a long time, but the educational system is SLOW to adopt and implement. The issue here is anthropology. We falsely assume “schooling” equates to the ability to process. We falsely believe “curriculum” makes one “smart.” The false paradigm of an “education” misses the point of how people adapt to their environment. One can have a strong singular intelligence to say baseball, and be very ignorant of history or psychology. A “super model” knows how to work a camera, present herself, and plan her schedule, but might not be able to write a coherent 500 word essay on politics. In the end, it doesn’t matter because most people live to succeed in their own environment. I would argue because “Dominicans” are so singular in their focus on baseball, they dominate. We should all know the 98% who never make it are cast aside. It is the proverbial, “all eggs in one basket” syndrome.
Colin was right and wrong, but the wrong overshadowed the right. He now needs to listen to his own preaching of “making it right rather than being right.” This is what happens when you try to be a pop-psychologist. He obviously is very influenced by psychology, usually takes a snippet he learns then runs wild with it making connections to sports. He is very bright, but is limited to his depth of understanding human nature. I think he works a lot of his own issues out and then uses this in his program. His intensity communicates that he owns what he says like a preacher behind his pulpit.

  47. The pussification of america is in full effect, people getting offended for anything. Social engineering is working. Make us afraid of words until freedom of speech becomes a joke.

  48. Good God if another liberal president is ushered into America with Hillary Clinton, you won’t be able to say anything without getting fired or arrested if you are a white male. 1984 has officially arrived in America and it’s even worse than the book.

  49. I CANNOT WAIT TO RETURN TO AMERICA ONE TIME IN 2016. TO VOTE FULL CARD REPUBLICAN AND HELP RID THIS WORLD OF THIS PC INSANITY.

  50. Stop watching mandangos play school yard games.
If you insist on watching mandangos play school yard games, do so. But stop paying for it. Watch it on tv and then go about your lives. Stop playing dress-up in jerseys. Stop spending 100s and 1000s of dollars of tickets.

  51. How can any decent white man even stand to watch sports on tv? Do you really want your kids growing up idolizing degenerate negro and hispanic felons?
Can you honestly be that excited when a black thug running down a field catches a ball?
    Pathetic.

  52. I may not agree with what you say, but I agree that you have a right to say it (peacefully and respectfully). I only ask that you allow me the same courtesy. 😉
I have common sense to know that some things are tasteless and are better not said, especially to or in front of minors, but in general…
