    -New dress code. Yup. I work for an actually mid/large business and women can now wear tights as pants as long as they are not a public facing employee. Apparently that is a big feminist issue.     -A new women’s group with monthly meetings that are catered at the company-dime and also will have “women-centric” speakers. Of course, men can come too said the CEO.     There were probably a few other stupid things that were announced, but I had to leave and take a call from a client who was mad because his call wasn’t answered because we were in a stupid BS meeting. I was expecting a backup dancer to come in with a mariachi hat and boots, but I guess mexicans can rest assured Hollywood didn’t mock them that badly.

25. Movies are now trash. I don’t think I seen a great movie in at least 10 years. Nothing but cgi and feminist propaganda. And nowadays movie tickets go up to 20 bucks with popcorn around 10 bucks. 32. Over the New Years holiday, I rented three old movies ($1.00 each). I rented Zulu (1964), Zulu Dawn (1979), and the Naked Prey (1965). Zulu and Zulu Dawn were about the battles of Rorke’s Drift and the battle of Isandlwana during the Zulu War in South Africa in 1879. Zulu was Michael Caine’s first feature movie as a young man. The Naked Prey was fictitious, and circa 1870s in South Africa. It was about a safari hunt that’s attacked by some Bantu tribe. They torture and kill the hunting party, save for one lone white hunter played by Cornell Wilde. They strip him naked and then chase him across the Transvaal. One by one he starts picking off his hunters, getting their clothes, sandals, water bottles, and weapons. He finally makes it back to the British fort the safari had originally disembarked from. Caine is no liberal, nor was Wilde. Wilde was a combat WWII veteran, and he was in his 50s and fighting cancer while filming the movie.

    1. Movies based on historical events are mainly the only ones I can bring myself to sit through. Old contemporary movies are good too when the story line is interesting and to see what life looked like- the cars, building interiors, etc. Have seen the ones you mentioned already and been wanting to see Shangani Patrol, a Rhodesian movie from 1970 with a similar theme.

       1. Another good old movie I rented recently ($1.00 too) was Papillon (1973). Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman. Set in the 1930s. About 2 men who made an escape attempt from the infamous Devil’s Island. McQueen was an avid motorcyclist, gun owner, and shooter in the midst of the 1960s counter culture. Late in life, while dying, he became a devout Christian. Hoffman is a libtard, and accused perv. IMHO, the older historical based movies have actors that had more developed craft and pride in their acting abilities, and the scripts, even if they took some historical liberty, had some semblance of a story to tell. I saw some old publicity shots of Sophia Loren and Gina Lollobrigida from back in the day. They were beautiful, slender, elegant, classy, and feminine women. Look at the actresses today. Look at the Rebel Wilsons, Rosie O’Donnells, Susan Sarandons, Meryl Streeps, Whoopie Goldbergs, and the list goes on and on. What a contrast! Mannish, foul mouthed, tatted and pierced up, goofy hairdos, feminists, the morals of a feral alley cat, no class, ugly as sin, obese, no talent, liberal in your face politics and agendas, irritable, clownish fakeup, augmentations galore, and dumber than bags of snot. How times change.

          1. I forgot about that movie until Gavin quoted a line from it in his “stop jerking” article in Takimag, so I went to rewatch it. How fitting that Steve plays the strong in spirit and body protagonist, while Hoffman is the weakling. I watched Sand Pebbles not that long ago where he also plays the main character, an American gunboat mechanic in 1900s China.

       2. I loved Sand Pebbles (1966). The end was McQueen at his best. He’s being the rearguard in a shootout with the Chinese communists. They handed him a BAR (Browning Automatic Rife…invented by the great inventor John M. Browning), and threw him a bandolier of magazines. He was also great in Nevada Smith (1966) and the Great Escape (1963). Note that these are all older movies,not the filth and mindless films of today.

Some of the movies I’ve seen in recent years and can recommend are Nova Zembla (2011, Dutch): Barentsz failed attempt to find a northern sea passage to China, Admiral (2015, Dutch): de Ruyter’s naval warfare with Britain, Mountains of the Moon (1990): Burton’s and Speke’s journey to find the source of the Nile, Shackleton (2002, UK): about his party’s miraculous survival following their failed antarctic expedition, Roaring Currents (2014, Korean): 17th century admiral Sun Shin Yi and the naval conflict with Japan, Rescue Dawn (2007): Dieter Dengler’s survival story, the jungles of 1960s Laos. Hacksaw Ridge and Sully were also fun to watch, couldn’t stand and leftist narrative in a film, and I’m quite happy that nearly all current actors are totally alien to me.

    I already distancing myself from hollywood movie for several years now, I kinda forgot exactly when or in what film I just remembered coming to realize the trend that there are more and more unnecessary sexual scenes, unnervingly pedestalizing women hotness (bitching and sluting-if that even the word =D) or worthiness or both, inconveniently explicit languages, deliberate hidden messages between the dialogues (which subliminally raise some hairs on your back), gory bloody details, etc. Worse since they also happened in movies which are “supposed to be consumed mostly by minors” such as those marvel and dc renditions.
    I have a daughter, she is 10 years old now and I’m having a very hard time to ignore her whining for not yet watching the horrendous Black Panther with us the parent. You know peer pressure doesn’t serve a young girl well if she is not following her peer’s norm/trend, right? I feel pity for her, but a hard lesson it must be.
    Let us get rid of the Hollywood. The sooner the better. Let start their end title now.

37. An important distinction between today’s celebs and yesterday’s is that there is way, way, way more nepotism now, and it’s steadily increasing. Most people would be surprised to know just how many actors and pop stars under the age of 40 or 50 come from Hollywood families to begin with (i.e almost all of them). Like, their parents are successful actors themselves, or directors, producers, casting directors, agents, et al., and that’s how their kids broke in, through contacts and connections, not talent.
    And even when they don’t come from a Hollywood family, they usually come from a very wealthy family. For example, Armie Hammer and Rooney Mara, whom the Hollywood hype machine has spent years promoting, putting them both into as many glossy prestige Oscar bait movies as it can, both come from among the wealthiest families in America. The moment they decided they wanted to act, every door was instantly opened for them. Their “struggle” to “make it” in Hollywood consisted of making a few strategic phone calls, or getting mommy and daddy to do it for them.
    Anybody who thinks Hollywood is a meritocracy is dreaming. It’s a scam. It’s rich people foisting their mediocre nepotist kids on the public and expecting us all to embrace them like the public embraced Brando or Nicholson or Pacino back in the day. Instead of Meryl Streep we get Meryl’s talentless and ugly daughters, Mamie and Grace Gummer. Instead of Clint Eastwood we get Scott Eastwood, his vacuous pretty boy son who can’t act.
