A recent article says you can drink as much coffee as you want

The most recent findings that support coffee as a panacea will make their premiere this December in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Coffee, researchers found, appears to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

When the Harvard School of Public Health visited the Health Professionals Follow-Up cohort in May 2011, it found that coffee’s protective effects extend only to some types of prostate cancer (the most aggressive types, actually). In a separate study of the same population from this past July, they also found a reduced risk of basal cell carcinoma with increased caffeine intake.

If you’re on a weight-training regimen, it can provide a mild (and legal) doping effect.

Other studies mentioned suggest that your rate for a host of diseases decreases as a result of coffee drinking. It even may relieve pain and depressions.

If you’re already a coffee drinker, there’s no compelling reason to cut back as long as you’re sleep is not being disturbed. There are measurable benefits to coffee drinking that improve your well-being, but they’re small enough that if you’re not already a coffee drinker, you shouldn’t start. I guess I’ll maintain my two cappuccino a day habit.

  1. I have hear good things and bad things about coffee. I almost wonder if the soon to be released article in the medical journal was paid for propaganda by the coffee industry. I do not want to be all tin-foil hat paranoid, but one has to wonder now that the realization in america dictates for one to be very cautious of information we are given today.
    There is also a lot of hype about wine being good for ones heart, etc (moderate consumption of course) but having connections into the wine biz, I have had this conversation with enologists from the States, South America and Europe, and in the final analysis there is not enough evidence to prove if wine is in fact good for your health. But all the non scientific articles in the consumer magazines would suggests that it is.
    But in the final analysis moderation in everything is key, including pussy!

    1. It’s actually the media that makes you believe that wine is good. In reality wine is neutral – neither bad nor good. If you actually read the scientific studies, nearly all of them test the effects of resveratrol on the test subjects.The scientists don’t use “wine”. Sure, resveratrol is found in red wine but not in significant quantities. To get the same amount of resveratrol as used in the studies, you’ll have to drink liters of red wine every day. So, supplementation is far superior.

      1. It’s not really a wine thing. The original studies showing daily intake extends life were on wine, but then later researchers found the exact same effects if people had a whiskey or beer a day.
        However, if you break it down what appears to really be happening is that a bit of booze a day keeps a heart attack from happening. It thins the blood and loosens up the circulatory system a bit. So if you’re chubby and sedentary and middle aged, apparently moderate alcohol intake will stop your sick ass from keeling over. Alcohol probably doesn’t help you at all if you’re actually fit and healthy.
        This confound of what’s good for fat people with a lousy diet (read: Europeans and Americans) vice fit people who eat well screws up quite a bit of research. For example, the studies generally say salt is bad. But if you take those studies and subtract out all the fat people, then higher salt intake is actually good! Among thin people those who ate more salt lived longer!
        It’s at the point where if you’re not fat and eat well you’re almost a different species from the general population. Your health advice is different from theirs.

  2. PS – Roosh like you stated, stay the fuck away from Starbucks which is not real coffee. Best to buy the stuff raw at a gourmet shop.

  3. According to Dave Asprey and others the quality of the coffee is critically important. Cheap coffee has toxins in it from mold growth. High quality stuff grown at alititude and shipped properly does not. Huge difference. This sort of conflation comes up in all these “X is good/bad for you” studies. For example, cheap meat is bad for you but high quality grass fed meat is very good for you. Very little research seems aware of the distinction.

    After all, billions of Britons, South Americans, Middle Easterners, North Africans, Indians, and Asians can’t be wrong.

    1. Nice, I was just going to add…coffee or just caffeine. I also take tea over coffee. Not green tea either, black earl grey or irish breakfast.

  5. Maybe caffeine is healthy (I think it’s not), but a lot of caffeine is very good at sucking magnesium and calcium out of the body, which means weaker bones, longer injury treatment, worse mood, much worse calcium absorption from food, less emotional stability and many more.
    Every coffee drinker should supplement magnesium and calcium and take vitamin D into consideration (in the absence of strong solar exposure). Generally it’s better to not drink caffeine at all, but it’s little difficult, at last for me…

  6. I vote for green tea. It’s better for you than coffee and not nearly as addictive.
    The worst thing about coffee, at least for those of us who get addicted easily, is that it stops have the positive mental effects once you get addicted; you need coffee just to feel normal in the morning. For anyone who is addicted to coffee, I recommend breaking the addiction and then trying coffee again in a couple of months. You will be amazed how productive coffee makes you when your brain doesn’t need it to function properly. Now, I drink coffee once or twice a week and it gives me a huge boost. Before, I need 3-4 cups per days just to be normal.

  7. This is legit. There is a thing in the Navy called ‘Chief Sudden Death Syndrome’ where chiefs drop dead about 7 months after retiring. Turns out it’s because all the antioxidents in the 20+ cups of Navy mess coffee they have been drinking for several decades was functioning as life support. As soon as they stop it, they die within a year. It kills like 10-15% off all newly retired chiefs ever year, but AFN is too busy playing rape commercials to talk about it.

    1. Same in law enforcement. Your old salty freshly retired veterans drop like flies after a year or so. Probably doesn’t help that most of them are really out of shape too.

  9. Coffee raises cortisol levels, which may lead to belly fat. Use it only right before a workout, or other physical work. Don’t drink it and then set on your ass.
