3 Things I’ve Learned From Dating A Ukrainian Girl For One Year

I’ve been dating a Ukrainian girl for about one year now. Throughout this time, I’ve learned a lot. Things that I assumed about relationships have been proven false. Issues that arose from my relationships with Western girls have been absent with the Ukrainian. Overall, my outlook has changed drastically.

This is for many reasons. The overall attitudes and mannerisms of women in Eastern Europe are drastically different. In some areas my expectations have been exceeded, but I keep myself grounded. But probably the biggest thing is that they’re actually pleasant and intelligent (you can listen to her on my podcast to get an idea of what I mean). With that being said, here are three things I’ve learned and observed from dating a Ukrainian girl for the last year.

1. Relationships Are Valued

If there’s one thing I learned from all the trouble of dating in Los Angeles, it’s this: even if a girl really likes you, you’re not going to be in good shape if you agree to any sort of relationship before six or so months.

You really have to string them along and make her beg and plead for you to be an exclusive couple. If you broach the topic, or even cave to her desires too quickly—she’ll simply lose respect for you. But the pride of Western girls prevents them from asking you for at least a few months. Why?

Simple. The sex and the city lifestyle. The fact is that she has options (even if they aren’t high-quality, they are numerous). And that matters, because she can brag about it to her friends to feel valued. Never underestimate the value of attention. Attention to girls is what sex is to guys. All we really do is trade them.

The point is, relationships with an Eastern European girl are valued. An Eastern European girl isn’t going to get shamed because she got into a committed relationship with a guy after dating him for two months. She isn’t going to hide you from her friends as long as possible—she’s going to want you to meet them and see if they approve. Same goes for parents (albeit that seems to come later).

2. A Curiosity To Learn

When I was living in the west, my first few dates with girls were always 100% on autopilot. I look back and remember very few things, simply because many dates were very, very similar. I’ve often thought to myself: is it my fault they were this way? Could I have made them more “exciting”?

After much pondering, my answer is no.

Because I did what worked. Getting into deeper intellectual or philosophical conversations was a surefire way to make sure she wouldn’t have sex with me. Instead, my routine followed something more like this:

  1. Meet at the same bar, every time.
  2. Buy the first round, and tell her she’d be buying the second.
  3. Chit-chat about general stuff for 15 minutes.
  4. Turn the topics sexual by using the questions game. The same questions, every single time.
  5. Have her buy the second round.
  6. I buy the third round, in cash and make sure we’re ready to go at a moment’s notice.
  7. As the third round (sometimes not even this) of drinks conclude, mention something “cool” at my apartment that came up in the questions game.
  8. Walk home from the bar.
  9. Crack open bottle of wine.
  10. BS with her for 30 minutes, then bang.

It was all just lifeless. Now, I’m not saying you should go on a date with a foreign girl and start trying to discuss Keynesian economics with her, but in most cases foreign girls just have more going on in their head than the Western counterparts. There is an innate curiosity about the world. A desire to learn and to broaden her intellectual capacity.

A perfect example is this: I’ve recently been assigning her weekly articles to write about for my small niche website about Ukraine. Last week, she made her first ever sale from online business—a whopping $2.30. Despite the low number, the look of elevation and accomplishment is just something I never saw on the face of a Western girl. They all seemed far more interested in just watching reality television.

3. A Desire To Please, But…

Simply put, girls in Eastern Europe want to please their guy. However, they manage to do this while still being reasonably independent.

I don’t mean this in the “strong-independent-look-at-me-roar” way that Western feminism pushes the agenda. I simply mean that over the last year, I have found her to be a strong person more than capable of handling her own issues without my assistance.

But despite that, she still wants to make me happy. She manages to be strong and independent and yet feminine at the same time. This is a skill and balance that definitely seems to escape most of the girls in the west—even if they are deeply in love with you. She manages to make me feel needed, and yet not needed at the same time. It’s a delicate balance.

Closing Thoughts

I don’t want to say that everything is perfect. Nothing ever is. It can be difficult at time dating someone from a drastically different culture (language, anyone?). But the pros absolutely outweigh the cons. She has added tremendous value to my life, and even has taught me a few things about the world.

Throughout my time abroad, I’ve come to appreciate some things that are available Stateside (Amazon Prime, customer service, etc.), but there is one thing I just can’t seem to miss. Dating. Undoubtedly, I’ve been spoiled rotten by my experiences in Eastern Europe. I wonder how things will continue to go in the longer-term with her. I guess I’ll let you know at this time next year.

  1. Nice article! Almost forgot what young love looked like. Good points on the wholesome dance you are experiencing with the Eastern European girl. What you are experiencing is just a small part of a bigger whole; the girl has strong ties to her culture so she knows who she is, a woman. This allows her to take all of the additional stuff, like cooking food or discussing politics, and just add it on like a dress or a flowery hat. She knows more because she needs to know more, not because her friends are trending this information.
    Maybe someday America will get to the stronger culture adherence, but at the moment there is more pride in just accepting the freedoms and especially the freedom to build ego boosting things to say on a resume.

      This. American girls are trying to “find themselves” which leads to them creating a completely false identity (yoga girl, feminist, vegan, model, SJW, etc.) and it all seems so forced. Its a fabricated persona that they have to maintain like a role in a movie. You can’t form a real relationship with someone who doesn’t know who they are and is acting out their life. Cultural roots give women, and men, a real natural identity which makes it much easier to form healthy, genuine, mature bonds with other human beings.

        1. Man that’s depressing! I would have bought a Barrett M82A2 and had plenty left over for 50 cal ammo! My first job out of high school was in a jewelry store. It was an eye opener, TBS. That $20K rock was probably more like a $4 – 5K rock. The only businesses worse for mark up are florists and undertakers, IIRC. One of my wholesalers did a retail / pawn business on the other side of the house in Norfolk, Va. There is a lot of military presence there, especially navy. He said these sailors would come in, buy a big rock for some gal and as soon as he went back out to sea, she was in there pawning it or selling it for 25% of what the simp paid, lol! I actually bought a nice rock for my ex in a pawn auction for $250 (little more than scrap value) that appraised out at nearly 2 grand. The retail jewelry business is a scam to be sure. It only works because most guys will do virtually anything for sex (disclaimer: that’s why I learned to make & repair jewelry in the first place).   4. I don’t know how old this girl is but in Russia and Ukraine, if you’re not married and have kids by 25 it’s considered strange.
    Marriage and children is expected. If you don’t want that the relationship will quickly turn bad with the majority of girls.

I don’t need other people to tell me I have chose the right path…I know in my heart that a) there are many paths, b) there are many differently constituted people c) not everyone is cut out for every road and d) I chose the best path for me. As such I am able to look at different people who chose different paths with admiration and find commonalities with them rather than getting triggered into thinking that their moral choices and lifestyle choices somehow negate mine and thus they must be squashed.

There was about two years that I was into clubbing and fooling around. Every time I got with a girl, I was having a moral dilemma in my brain. It’s whatever is mutually beneficial to both people. That could be a Christian marriage with the husband as the spiritual leader, or a long term threesome, or those people who like to dress like zoo animals and fuck, or swingers, or men who want to be dominated by their wives, or vice versa, or serial daters, or vanilla couple who schedule sex for after their favorite tv sit com, or those fat fetish couples who post pics of their naked girlfriend eating cake. As long as it’s fulfilling for both people, that’s all that matters.

    3. Russian women are notorious sluts , even by West’s standarts. They are just more enjoyable to have around. You can have a semi-decent conversation about philosophy/psychology with almost all of them and sometimes they even tell a good joke that actually makes you laugh.

        5. I have been in a relationship with a Hungarian woman 8 years. Have to agree with your assessment of Germans, very degenerate society. Much of Western Europe not much different though. The US is also bad too.
          Only positive about German women is while they will have sex with any guy, they usually won’t turn around and call the police to claim the man assaulted her or treated her inappropriately. This kind of behavior is common among American, British, and French women. French women are really two faced dishonest thieves, if you sleep with one keep one hand on your wallet. Hollywood portrays them as ideal women who are the epitome of feminine beauty, yeah right. Many have hygiene and mental stability issues, this is also quite common among German women. I was at a resort in Greece and two German women were staying at a room next to mine, they used to spend time in the balcony, noticed when they left, the smell they emitted was gone.

          Note, that Czech people usualy don’t like Poles very much, but interestingly, Poles usualy like Czechs (that is what Poles say about themselves). So it’s kind of surprising that Polish women speak badly about Czech women. Jealousy?
          My friends who were on Erasmus program in Poland told funny stories about polish women, especially their desire for non-Polish guys (who are weird and asexual from my point of view). Polish women often get pregnant (take into account that abortion is prohibited in Poland) and then blackmail those poor foreigners to marry them :-).

Especially because there (not only on ROK, but elsewhere on web) are many articles and posts about “EE/CE girls paradise” (on the one hand) or “EE/CE women degeneration” (on the other). As a Czech I might not be the most objective person to speak about my people, anyway, I will at least try now…, because sometimes I read a total bullshit (built on unpardonable ignorance of facts, i. e.) about us and it makes me angry. I posted a comment recently about “feminism” in CZ; you can find it on my profile, if you are interested.
          As for the appearance: IMO, women in central Europe definitely are good looking (not only in Czechia and Slovakia, but as well in Poland), but the same cannot be said about men. Czech guys often dress badly and don’t care very much about their appearance, they are very demanding, although they usually don’t offer much in return, especially the handsome ones are extremely picky, because there are many beautiful girls to choose from …). Polish guys are even worse (at least in my eyes). I can’t stand their pathetic nationalism (“how much Poles suffer in history, boohoo”) and hypocrisy. I would prefer Slovaks to Czechs (and to Poles), but some of them (especially those from east Slovakia) behave rude to women. Maybe that’s the reason why CE women are so interested in foreigners (if it is a better option is questionable).
          As for the level of the sluttiness. I don’t like any soulless generalisation. I have never seen anybody who I can mark as “a typical Czech”, neither do I see myself as a typical one (ethnically I am not 100 %, I have Slovak, German, Hungarian and Romani roots). I know lot of Slovaks, but just few Poles (guys), so it is difficult to assess and compare. Anyway, Czech women are relatively open (sexually too), because they usually are atheists. I would like to note, that there is a significant difference between Czech and Moravian people (or people from Prague and other cities, Brno for example); the second are more “traditional”.
          Slovak women are very similar to Moravian people, they are more emotional, but not that much sexually open, I think. Women like to play “I am not so easily available” game. I personally don’t know many Polish women, but I don’t think there is a big difference. If some Pole told me that “Czech women are sluts”, I would answer that Poles are nothing than hypocritical Catholics. Their faith probably helps them to have higher opinion about themselves.

          Back in the 1980’s, when things weren’t as bad (although it was hard at the time to imagine that), most feminists were of the type who had the simple attitude:
          “The whole world revolves around pleasing us middle class white women because we’ve been historically oppressed!”
          So nearly all the single college educated women in their 20’s I knew who were dating had the attitude that they could demand chivalry when it suited them and affirmative action at work (and scream sexual harassment at the drop of a hat) and it worked. There were fewer minorities back then either in the population or socio-economically positioned to compete with them. I knew many a career white women who compared herself to former African slaves in offices where there were no black people and she demanded that her “traditional” boyfriend buy her a diamond ring (mined by South African black people under apartheid).
          I’m reminded of “the happy time” as the U-boat commanders in WWII put it on how they could operate without detection from radar at a peak era in the war. That was the “happy time” for white feminists. In addition, as the Gen-X women came of age, the baby boomer men slightly older than them were getting divorced and available to fill the gap left by Gen-X men left behind.
          All of this started to collapse in the 1990’s and this is when birth rates for such women plummeted but they still put up a good fight. When men of this era (including myself) discovered the ability to date overseas, the feminists panicked and passed the IMBRA law (it has had little effect).
          So now we live in a post toxic feminist age when the institutions are in place but economically they’re rotting away. Imagine if the USSR had won the Cold War. It still would have collapsed but without the USA, nobody would have noticed. That’s kind of like what we have now.

I have found very similar personalities in Russian women, and Russian women see dating as something that leads to marriage and they are serious about dating from the first date. Russian women have the ability to balance the small things that keep a relationship lively, and make you their King at the same time. Eastern European women are very feminine and have a strong desire to please their man, and I believe a lot of this is due to the fact that EE has way more women than men and this imbalance works in our favor.

In US frontier history, they had to be self sufficient and mind the farm when Pa was out to town to buy supplies. They had to be tough because there were limited facilities and services; basically you made or traded for whatever you needed. Minding their brood and the homestead was a lot of work.     Our womenfolk were ruined in just a couple of decades, and are now spoiled, entitled, fat, hate-filled, and useless. In turn they manufacture more of the same.

      The high quality women today are some of the finest women who ever existed. Of course the bottom feeders and disgusting pigs are terrible…they always have been. The trick is in making yourself of such a value that you don’t have to deal with them.

      1. When speaking of a large group, one goes with the general and not the exception. Yes upper tier women are fantastic, and yes low tier women are disgusting. However, I find nothing attractive about the general middle where they curse like sailors, obsess about their careers and cats/dogs, and act unfeminine basically all the time. THat is one of those things that there is a right and wrong way to do it. On top of the other effects I notice, and some of the other people we chat with have noticed the same, when you do this the women around you (be it one like a wife or multiple like serial dating) start talking about how they need to lose weight, or start picking up their gym time….as soon as I meet a woman, within a few days she is telling me how she is thinking about a new gym membership, or eating healthier etc. Women are natural followers and men are natural leaders. Followers without a leader are lost and leaders without a follower are just guys standing around in a field so there is a symbiotic relationship.
          Now you say that you can charm any woman into being a woman, but I think it is actually much easier than that (though this is maybe what you meant) simply by acting like a man the women around you will act more feminine. You don’t need to charm them or game them or really do anything to them…all you have to do is be masculine and the women in your periphery will default to being feminine. This is why I, in large part, blame men for when women do cease to be feminine. What choice does a woman have when she is deprived of masculine energy but to try to do it herself. Hungarian and Polish women are also very similar in many respects, in addition these two tend to be quite religious, which is a good thing.           Just after communist times when the EU borders opened up, there was a huge diaspora of Poles across Europe.
          The situation in the 90’s was that average Poles were highly educated and hard working but during communist times, would be paid little but enjoy stability: A tiny apartment, cheap food and healthcare but not much else. With the fall of communism it was a free for all: Some could become rich and get all the great western goods and lifestyle and others would be poor. It was like comparing the Wild West of the USA to, say, living in a NYC slum during the late 1800’s: both are tough.
          Since then, Poland is much better off and many businesses are locating in Poland (kind of like the Mexico of Europe) and birthrates are up along with standard of living. I see little of the soviet era drabness or post-communist era decay in most of Poland that I visit now.
          Consider: If you visited, say, NYC in the 1970’s you’d have seen a movie set from The Warriors of a crime ridden cesspool. Now, it’s a much better place (thanks to Guiliani).
          In the meantime, the UK is going downhill.

With men, we have a rule of “good enough.” I vacuumed twice a month, put the dishes in the dishwasher and had a system of tidying up even if not “German clean” (as my Swiss friends put it). But American career women I dated had unrealistic standards (in a lot of ways) and would declare “I don’t like dirty dishes sitting in the dishwasher!” and then would just leave the dishes in the sink to pile up (and God knows what crawled on those dishes at night.). I’d see stacks of clothes and junk around like an episode of hoarders. At least with me and most men, we have a system to put stuff.

Then Hollywood and TV stepped in and created new (usually leftist) utopian cultures such as Star Trek, Westerns, and blockbuster films and then anti-culture (such as diversity) to shame many from having any associations at all!
          In most of Europe, people have centuries old customs and traditions that even if followed by only by a minority are at least noted in the media and local community. Few Swiss guys dress like the Ricola commercial, but most will have witnessed these events multiple times in their lifetimes.
          Without culture, women judge men strictly by his “paper” credentials (height, overall appearance/first impression, money and education) and by clown game and men judge women by their appearance and what purpose they have for them (wife up, sex, etc.) There’s a lot to like about living in the states (particularly the red states) but there’s also problems as well that we’re only too well aware of here.

      In my experience Eastern Euro men are not cucks like Western Euro, this alone makes a big difference in the women. They tend to be more feminine.

        1. I’m hardly alone with not being interested in the wide hip thing. Even right here on ROK some of the bombshells of the 50’s got some knocks on shape. But personal preferences vary of course. If that’s your thing, go for it.
          Big chests and hips came into fashion thanks to Hollywood in the US at least. Check out what was considered gorgeous around the 20s. And then go back farther and see how slightly chubby was a thing at one point. The ideal of beauty does change a little at least.
          Had a laugh at the angry comment. The rarity is a woman that doesn’t walk around with a scowl. Plus, when it gets down to it, who gives a damn if they’re unfriendly? 😉

          Big chests came into fashion from the end of WWII on for a couple of decades or so. Wide hips had nary a thing to do with the big boobs craze.
          Yes, the idea of beauty changes with the times (flat chests were in during the 1930s), but the wide hips thing has never changed.
          As for the scowl: take a look at any television show of any kind in the 1950s and 1960s. All the women smile. All of them.
          You may not care if the chick scowls when you are actively running game on her, but using that as a representative photo of women in an article you write (and others write on ROK) about sexuality and women?

          As for the rest, I actually agree. The women in golden era films (while not my thing in terms of shape sometimes) did actually -smile-. But that’s not the world we’re in today.           I always thought they picked pictures based on the country in question. (Yeah I’m probably attributing more thought to the process than is actually used.) For what’s it’s worth, the women here look vaguely Ukrainian but then: I’ve never even been to the Ukraine and have only met maybe half a dozen of their women. I’m hardly an expert here. For all I know they just picked it out of random stock photos. 🙂

  29. Having dated more than a few women in Ukraine, I concur in general with your observations. It is hit and miss, though. Girls are individuals, and individual characteristics vary.
    I have certainly met Ukrainians who are well on their way to being ‘sex in the city’ types who are looking for stimulation (e.g., shopping, travel) above education or achievement. I dated one woman who was a lawyer, but who gave it up to be a hair dresser because the hours were better and it allowed her to travel.
    Certainly there is more emphasis on relationships. To be honest, Ukrainian guys are spoiled. The numbers favor them, and that means that they get to do all the things that happen when a sex ratio is lopsided – namely, defer marriage and turf girls when things aren’t going well. Women dream of an educated, fit, well dressed man who is ready to commit. You can date well below your age.
    I dated a girl in Odessa who was pretty much like a western woman, save for the fact that she was ‘traditional’ in the sense of wanting the guy to pay for everything.
    On the other hand, I also met very young women (20, 21) who were ready for family and commitment. Something impossible to find out here. It kind of creeped me out at first, as I was 38 when I first went to Ukraine. Now I realize that if you are in good shape and have the right set of qualities, you have immense drawing power.
    Yes, I think they are more intellectual on average than women in the west. However, I find Ukrainians to be brain dead about the threat that the EU represents. Not a single one of them could answer basic questions about the EU, particularly ‘what is the EU Commission’? (Duh, you want to join the EU but you don’t know what the commission is???) They thought that the EU was a path to riches, and scoffed when I told them that they would be forced to take legions of muslim migrants. Kiss the days of women walking alone at night in Kiev or Odessa goodbye.
    They also displayed no curiosity about the growing number of africans and arabs in their country. Being shocked seeing blacks in Kiev, I asked a few locals who said they had no idea how they got there. (They did not take kindly to my suggestion to check out world star hip hop to see how large numbers of blacks behave). Apparently they have little interest in government policy, since they see them as all crooks. Russians are NOT the same way.
    Love Ukraine, but glad I married a Russian. A bit more politically aware, and not completely broke. The women in southern Ukraine are smoking hot, though. Far more than in the North. Slim, golden skin in summer, long straight hair…. It is paradise if you are a fan of women.

When I was an academic, both in grad school and after as a young professor, I went to pretty much every dipshit conference I could get myself invited to so I could build a resume (plus the free travel was cool) so that meant going to college towns all over the country. I am dating a Russian woman, and I have also noticed that there is a lot of friction between Russians and Ukrainians due to Russia taking over Crimea in 2014. I have only dated Russian women, but I really like how they act when you are in a relationship with them. Russian women make it easy to be in a relationship, and I also like that Russian women are blunt and straight forward.
